I read the reason that they’re dumping Facilier was because he represented a religion and they’re trying to purge any religious imagery from the company in an attempt to be more culturally sensitive. However, they are still making Moana 2, which has a literal Polynesian god. And they’re doing a live action adaptation of Hercules which is based off a religion practiced for centuries by the Greeks. Double standard there, Disney?

Their standards are incredibly arbitrary and it looks like they’re sabotaging themselves on purpose for no good reason. It really seems like they confuse “thrills” for “trauma” and are doing their best to make everything as sanitized as possible, smoothing out any rough edges they think might trigger someone.

Mama Odie is literally the Voodoo priest how does it make any sense to have her in the ride? And why on God’s green Earth did they decide to do a Princess and the Frog ride without Voodoo? That’s literally part of the plot of the movie!

Facilier and his friends should have literally lingered in the shadows, until you get to 'The Laughing Place" drop, this is where he/his shadow form would open a portal to the Voodoo Realm. The underlayer voodoo realm could be the voodoo heads and masks singing and humming, colorful mists, Dr. Facillier (weary from his torture) looking to exact vengeance! Trading your souls for his freedom! The big climb is the Voodoo Heads yelling Are you ready? As you climb. The very top could be Dr. FACILIER looking to escape and Mama Odie stops him at the summit you plunge. Next you show up back in the bayou, The Steamboat remains with all the critters and Tiana jamming out, you turn the corner and you see Dr. FACILLIER'S Top Hat sitting off to the side with shadows receeding into his hat with his screams, all vanishing under his hat. Boom! Much improved excitment and fun factor. They keep the darkness they want for the ride as it adds to the suspense of Facilier and his friends lurking and following you, shadows in the back with the screens constantly freeze then animate and come to life

Unfortunately, this awesome idea of yours sounds more like an Eisner-era idea than an Iger-era one. Unfortunate because that means it's too good for Disney in this era, that is. For anyone about to get after me because of all the mistakes Eisner made after Wells died, let me remind you that post-Wells we got the Indiana Jones Adventure, Tokyo DisneySea, the 2005 refresh and retrack of Disneyland's Space Mountain (historically significant more than publically significant), and, perhaps most importantly, the very last major thing he was involved with was Expedition: Everest!

Yes I agree with you. Dr. Facilier and his evil shadow spirits should've been featured in Tiana's Bayou Adventure. Also don't forget there should've been pink flamingos in the "Dig a little deeper section. This is a dark ride and it should've had scary spirits or haunted trees like the earlier Snow Whites Scary Adventure 1990s, 2000s ride at Disneyland. There should've been the scary song "Friends on the other side" chanting "Are you Ready". Sadly the official ride and dropoff looks boring like the awful Autopia ride at Disneyland.

As stupid of a decision as it was to leave out Dr. Facillier, I’m ultimately happy they did. If he was used for the drop, I get the sense some people would’ve forgiven the attraction even if it was still vastly inferior to Splash Mountain as a whole. Given the malicious nature of this “retheme”, it doesn’t deserve forgiveness in my eyes. Needless to say, I’ve been very pleased with the public response thus far.

This is like being told you can't have the juicy tri-tip sandwich (Splash Mountain) you ordered initially, but then you're like "sigh, FINE, I'm still hungry, just give me the peanut butter and jelly (Princess and the Frog)", only to find out that all the peanut butter and jelly (the voodoo/magic elements and Dr Facilier) have been removed from the sandwich, and instead fresh turds (the crappy jungle explorer Tiana and the salt mine "joke") was put in the sandwich in its place

Part of the fun of Splash Mountain was the anticipation of the drop, punctuated by the tension created by the scary musical and thematic turn as you climb to the top. I can totally see Dr. Facilier’s song, Friends from the other side, with its “Are you Ready?” refrain, serving that same tension building purpose. It really could have been a lot of fun. I don’t mind the idea of converting Splash Mountain to a Tiana themed ride. As much as I love Splash Mountain, I do think Tiana needed an attraction and it seemed to fit quite nicely. But I do wonder how they will pace the ride’s narrative. Will it be a fun ride in its own right? Will removing a villain remove the tension and fun? Will I want to ride this ride over and over again like I did? I just don’t know. 🤷🏻‍♀️

HE practices Voodoo. Not all people of color. The ride is filled with normal heroes and HE is a mystical villain! Let villains be villains, Disney! This has been a problem in one way or another for years. Side note: I strongly dislike the reboot trend of “That villain that was positively evil through and through from that beloved classic our company produced? Turns out, they were never evil and in fact, they were GOOD all along!” Yuck. Make new things.

I can understand if the reason why they removed the voodoo from the ride was because it was way too dark. Keep in mind, people took issue with Disney going too dark before with the Night On Bald Mountain segment in Fantasia, the necromancy like powers of the Black Cauldron and the Cauldron born, Return to Oz and so on. Anytime Disney went too dark, they didn't turn a profit until later re-releases. And I do think that it's one of the biggest reasons why it didn't turn a profit back when it first released, since most people were weirded out by the voodoo in this movie. Instead, they went with the double standard "it's too tied to religious iconography" despite not having any issue exploiting other movies with other religious beliefs like Christianity in Hunchback of Notre Dame, ancestor worship in Mulan or the worship of the Greek Pantheon in Hercules while making a discount Blues Brothers ride.

If anyone doesn’t want Dr. Facilier on the attraction because his character is dead by the end of the movie, then why is Gaston parading around Belle’s Village? PS. Most, if not all Disney villains are killed in their respective movies. Why should he be any different? Also, if the practice of Voodoo is off limits, are they going to remove the Queen/Witch from the 7 Dwarfs Mine Train so people who practice witchcraft aren’t “Offended”? In short, when is this garbage going to end?

Such a missed opportunity not having Facilier. To the point where they really might have to do a massive refurb on this ride if they care about GSAT Scores. It kills me thinking of how amazing the Voodoo Heads could have looked, theres even a cool bit where Facilier has a "glow in the dark" sort of mask, so much they could have done with protection mapping, smoke, its all possible and baffles me. They could rework the "shrinking" section to Facilier but will they? Idk

To add in dead villians showing up when canonically they probably shouldn't: Haunted Mansion Holiday takes place after the events of Nightmare Before Christmas and in their second year they shoe-horn in Oogie due to his popularity rising. Technically, Ray does show in the ride. When you shrink to frog size they repeat footage on the shitty screens from "Goin Down the Bayou" of the fireflies and you can see him shaking his butt. This is an easy fix with Facilier. Amazon/Spindlehorse had to do similar with Alastor from Hazbin Hotel, he does voodoo too but they omitted the word from his vocabulary and changed his magic symbols from voodoo insignias to generic magic images. They can do the same with Facilier!

It’s sad they didn’t have even an Easter egg like his hat or something. Disney also has a game called Twisted Wonderland from Japan. They have a character inspired by Dr. Facilier called Sam. When they made the game available outside of Japan, they took all the markings and such off the design. They said it was offensive but, why is it fine in Japan but not anywhere else? It doesn’t make since. They also have a manga (book) series where they again changed the look of the character. I just want to enjoy the content it was originally supposed to be. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t bring someone in to make sure it would be appropriate instead of ditching our great villain completely.

I would like to address the concept artwork that is shown, especially the piece which shows the front of the mountain. I understand the concept artwork does not always come to life when an attraction is being built, BUT there are so many problem with the artwork. 1 - You have a boat or something at the top of the mountain which in the artwork looks great. Maybe they should have tried that at the top so it didn't end up looking like a pile of moss. 2 - You have Tiana in her princess gown, I would except her to be somewhere in the attraction in that gown. 3 - Also in the boat are fireworks and Mardi Gras Jester's Hat, I might have missed it in a POV but I do not see any of that either. 4 - And lastly there is so much water coming down the hill. They are now running this ride without water on the hill yet people say there is water. I don't get it. Saying a Disney Villain died in their movie so they cannot come back is very interesting. If that is the case bub bye Gaston, Evil Queen, Maleficent, Ursula, Mother Gothel, Jafar, Oogie Boogie with many more and the attractions or shows they are apart of. Villains are the reason why Disney has stories to tell in the most part. If they are being this cautious we will never see a Villiansland ever.

Just got off the ride…it was better than I anticipated…I counted 45 animatronics in it….but I feel Dr Facilier not being in the ride is a huge missed opportunity. There really is no fear/excitement factor. Just fun. The whole shrinking down was pointless.

I've never seen Princes and the Frog. As for a villain paired with the ride, WDW has done this with the wicked queen transformed on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Not having Facilier at the drop is such a massive swing and a miss. Why is Disney so afraid of antagonists. Parts of the rides looked good (those animatronics look amazing), but the story of the ride looks just weak. A step up from the Navi River adventure, but not much.

Had the ride been all about the bad doctor (with Tiana rescuing everyone) the long drop could have been repurposed as being turned into frogs. Another missed opportunity!

They already did that with Peter Pan from that incompetent director, movie came out on streaming last year. For Hercules not sure it would fly, I think they mean current religions of which that is not one. Like if all living languages were not allowed in a movie, but they spoke Latin, you can't flip a table because theyr'e "not following their own rules" because they are.

Disney has a salaried Stories Matter department that tells them what is offensive and will continue to find new "problematic" elements in media and attractions to justify their existence.

The decision to omit Facilier from the attraction almost certainly stems from Disney's desire not to alienate guests, namely fundamentalist Christians. Princess and the Frog was controversial in its release--and remains so even today--for its inclusion of Voodoo by way of Dr. Facilier. Do most people find Voodoo and Facilier objectionable? No, but the number of people who do is not insignificant, and Disney hardly wants to lean into being accused of incorporating Voodoo, Paganism, Satanism into one of their top-tier attractions, And unlike a character meet and greet for Dr. Facilier, where a family can simply decide not to meet the character, you don't really have that option on an attraction. It's all or nothing; you can't get off the ride just for the parts you don't like. You either ride it or you don't, and Disney hardly wants to dissuade a bunch of guests from riding an attraction that is supposed to be a high-capacity people eater.

Also, is it difficult for you to understand the difference in weight between discriminating against an actual thinking, living, feeling human being to please guests vs "discriminating" against a fictional character to please guests?
