Lovely review, thank you for sharing. I personally have never found the size of the resort a downside, as we're walkers from the city and there's a lot to explore, with lush, mature landscaping. And, many rooms away from the Hospitality house have gorgeous views and can be very peaceful and secluded, a nice change of pace from the business of the parks. Certainly though, I respect that not everyone has the same level of mobility, and these tips and tricks for where to stay closer to bus stops, Hospitality, first floors, etc are very valuable!

I am ready for a laid back Disney trip, for as many times as I’ve been we’re still the wake up early and stay late kind of visitors. Maybe a stay at OKW will chill us out...

Love old key west we own at Saratoga and love that too, we have stayed at akl , port Orleans, Caribbean beach , pop century and vero beach and love them but prefer the laid back resorts ( we are getting a bit long in the tooth ) lol and peace is good . Just had my husband chip in he doesn't watch but overhears !!!!!! when I watch your vlog he says you know she is the most informative and pleasant one you listen to, she gives information and her impression but doesn't force it on you . He is correct have a good day and keep vlogs coming 😀

I stayed with a DVC friend a few years back and we loved spending a morning/early afternoon at a smaller pool( turtle?) across from building we stayed in and was pleasantly surprised at the snack bar food selection... really good plus it also has a beverage refill station...

Hey Jen we stayed at OKW for a night post Disney cruise Dec 2019. We were fortunate to get building 62. It was our first time staying there. We had a very comfortable stay and I still say that room had the best water pressure in the shower. Olivia's was great, cast members were super friendly, we really enjoyed our stay.

Hi Jen! Great review of the Old Key West Resort. Very in-depth, you got into all of the nooks and crannies of the place. Love the story of you poor son taking a bus ride around the resort. Made me think about the time when my kids were like 2 & 4 and I took them to Newark Airport and we rode the airport monorail back and forth to look at all of the planes and watch the planes land and takeoff. Ken

SO excited to go back to OKW in May, our parents are super excited to get back! Loved this video super informative! We normally go for those rooms that are by the first stop on the return from the park, nice short walk to the Hospitality House plus in the past (before the app showed bus times) we would see a bus go past our room and then we knew it would be back at hospitality house in around 20mins...

Thanks for this! We just booked a stay here for Nov. for my son's bday. We have been DVC owners for a while but never stayed at OKW. We may or may not do any park days so we wanted a nice relaxing resort with a lot of things to do. I am pretty excited after hearing your review!

When we drove past OKW on our honeymoon I told my husband that I wanted to stay there someday. Now, 6 years later, we are finally getting the chance this August! We got a 1 BR villa and I can't wait!

We love this resort when we do only a resort stay!😀♥️ The only con is no elevators in most of the resort. We need a elevator because of my husband ECV. 🙁 But overall we love this resort.♥️♥️ Thanks for sharing your thoughts and a great job!

I have to add a story to this, this is not a DVC story but true. Teenagers, sometimes they'll shake their heads..that does not mean they got what you were saying LOL... WE stayed once in a Disney Springs hotel with several hotel bus stops. My teenager was SO lost. Fortunately, I was there with her; but like her school organized a Disney trip for the band.During that trip, they would break off into groups and later have to find a location to meet a chaperone. I told her, you are so NOT going. She literally would get lost in Disney World.:)

Love the videos!, we are definitely in research mode and have been for over a year with a plan to buy soon, so far I believe our plan is to buy a 100 points direct from disney to have the added perks is a major plus but we also are looking at buy among 100 additional points at another resort through resale , agian love the videos they have been very helpful!

Hi Jen. Just subscribed after watching religiously for two years! OKW is the best! We are booked in a grand villa in June. My family of five and my best friend and her family. We can hardly wait. We have stayed at Saratoga Springs using a friend's DVC points. It is a beautiful resort, and we liked the amenities that come with DVC resorts. The only issue is that it is such a huge resort that we felt like we were a mile away from the main hub (full disclosure: our favorite resort is Port Orleans French Quarter).

Yes, it is HUGE. And honestly I adore POFQ because its so small and intimate, so yes, QUITE a bit different than OKW or Saratoga Springs!

Jen, we went to the original sales presentation in 1994 at “Old Key West.” If anyone else remember it here, let us know! It was over the top. And at the end there was a full ice cream bar with everything you could think of. We were on our way to the airport to end our 7 day trip so sadly we just took (gladly) some Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars with us. We sadly did not purchase until 2000 when we again took the tour for the selling of Wilderness Lodge Villas. I learned so much more at that time and instantly knew that I regretted not buying in 1994. Biggest lesson: At any DVC resort the total number of points for a 1 year period can never change. They can be re-arranged but the points per night won’t go up. Just the cost per point when you purchase. That is why it is so important to not buy too low a number of points only to add on years later at a premium up charge.

9 degrees here. Love to hear your discussion on Old Key West. I've seen the vlogs on those rooms; they are very nice from what I've seen. Yeh, back then my parents had a place in Pennsylvania. If only they would have dropped that place (for my Dad to fish) and would have gotten in on the early days of DVC, I can only imagine what the if then vs. now. They were just very anti-time share. In Pennsylvania, they actually owned the lot. But the upkeep got to be too much, so they've since then sold it.

So we had the grand villa in building 48 last week. (well Feb 11-Feb18) The room was fantastic, sound carried but as long as everyone was aware of it, not so bad. The only suck was the buses, particularly the "internal bus". However, knowing that the "Penninsular" Stop was the 1st stop on the returning buses from the parks was good info as we would just walk to that stop from Hospitality House and get back to the room on ANY bus. One other nice thing about that resort is that Uber and Lyft can pick you up at your Building. Which they cannot do at say Coronado Resort.

Yes the bus situation at OKW is less than ideal and it’s why we always have a car when we are there. Glad you had a great trip!

The downside to being the last stop before going to the park is how often busses fill! My family is larger so it’s worth is to sit on the bus for a few extra minutes to know we all get on first thing. We will do the extra steps in the evening though! Lol

Jen my wife and I just stayed at Old Key West in May. The thing that kinda irritated me with this resort is the proximity of the majority of the rooms to the main thoroughfares for resort bus traffic. Most of the other resorts channel the traffic around the periphery of they’re property. I realize this is an older Disney resort but it actually became comical as the week went on. Endless bus and resort staff golf cart action. Otherwise we had fun!

Always love your OKW tips Jen! We will be there next July in a 1 br near hospitality (🤞🏻) and plan to have amazon prime grocery delivery the day we arrive. Does bell service’s bring it directly to your unit, the same as they do in BLT or beach Club? Or do I need to go pick it up myself? PS-watched your Jan trip dining reservations video the other day...and totally teared up as you spoke about the precious family time with your 3 boys at OKW. Mom of 3 here...and this is exactly why we bought DVC ♥️🙏🏻

Hi Jen, this is, in fact the first of your videos I’ve seen, very nice. My father bought into DVC in 1992 and was around member number 572 or so, so we have stayed at OKW a lot! We only stayed in off peak times, so I would say the noise levels aren’t that bad, but I’m biased. A year isn’t complete without Turtle Krawls and my favorite T shirt is the Gurgling Suitcase shirt I just got recently. I was never really a fan of Olivias until recently, the food has gotten a LOT better in recent years. This is definitely a place that is perhaps my favorite place on Earth, there are so many good memories that have been had here. Each resort has its own charm, I think after OKW its a tie between Kidani Village (the food service at AKL rocks!) and BLT ... buts it’s really hard to say 🤔. The only resort I DONT like is .... Riviera 😳. But the bartender there DID know how to make Turtle Krawls 😁

Jen, we just booked a 1-bedroom at OKW!! So exciting. I know that its a big resort but you sold me on the size of the units and the price is great. You mention your favorite buildings in the video. What is the bus route around the grounds? What is the order of the bus stops?

Honestly, because we always stay near Hospitality House, I'm not entirely sure but definitely find out because sometimes it's way quicker to walk to a different bus stop depending on the route!

Hi. I was wondering how loud hospitality house gets. My sisters are going next year, and we join dvc. I am an epileptic so was curious how loud it gets. Thanks so much! I love your videos and have learned so much!

The buildings are actually not in the Hospitality House, just near it, and we've never heard any noise from there. The only issue with that area would be road noise from the busses coming into the resort so you may want to request a quiet location to avoid that.

Erin, yes our family have been owners at OKW since 1992, my father was member 578 or so ... so we’ve been there a lot. The only sound you will really hear is from the buses. I have never known the Hospitality House to be loud, not like other resorts anyway. If you are in the depths of the resort, you won’t hear a thing 😂

We have been DVC members for a short while and so far we have tried... Poly Copper Creek (home) Saratoga Springs Boardwalk This September we are doing Old Key West. This video is perfectly timed since I just book and we go in 211 days... Thanks for sharing

Cooper creek is great for the surroundings, Saratoga Springs was AWESOME for access to Disney Springs, I loved the feel of Polynesian and Boardwalk was great for trips to EPCOT... That said, my least favorite was Saratoga Springs and my favorite is Copper Creek...

We've been members since 1994. I don't recall you saying any cons (or maybe I just overlook them). We were disappointed when they renamed it OKW. We still love Olivia's and have at least one meal there - - regardless of where we stay. Love Miller's Road. We had a ground floor studio at Turtle Pond and had bus headlights for a good part of the evening.

We are going for two weeks in early December (family of 4 plus grandma and grandpa) and have been contemplating on either going to OKW (2 bedroom) or the new Gran Destino tower with club access. I know that you have stayed at both resorts recently; how would you say the bus and transportation situation is at the tower versus OKW? Thanks for all the great videos!

Great question and honestly I would say they are exactly the same - you have the same issues (large resort, multiple bus stops, sometimes long waits) and both properties. I know that's not much of a tie breaker, is it? I absolutely love Gran Destino but with a large group I still think I'd give the edge to OKW - you just can't beat that space and there's no outdoor space at Gran Destino so having the balcony at OKW would be very nice that time of year.

Hi Jen! How do you submit a room/building request when renting points at OKW? We will be there in October, near hospitality house category, and would like to request building 61, 62, or 63 because they have the pass through from the laundry room to the bathroom. Do I call OKW front desk?

Thanks for this video Jen. We are a family of five (kids are 14,12 and 8) and we are thinking of buying points at Saratoga. We feel that our options of affordable villas are limited due to the number and ages of our kids. We would probably aim to stay for 2 weeks every 2 years so squeezing into a studio or one bedroom would probably not be very comfortable. I love the look of Saratoga but would like to be able to swap things around some years and Old Key West looks great. Can you give me some idea of how likely it would be for us to get a 2 bed villa at the 7 month mark. We typically travel the last two weeks of August due to school restrictions (sigh!). Thanks. xx

Honestly, if OKW is what you're going for you should be fine - it's a big resort! You're unlikely to get Near Hospitality House as that's it's own booking category, but they usually have availability! And yes, that's why we purchased too. With 3 kids it's hard to find comfortable and affordable on property accomodations!

We went and walked around OKW and really loved the feel of it! I think you are right and would def want to have a car for easier getting around! We have it on our list of places to stay.

Great question! I’ve honestly never seen it crowded and it’s very peaceful! Of course can be loud when they do the pool games but otherwise it’s delightful. Literally never had trouble getting a chaise.

The short answer is it depends. The Minnie Vans absolutely will pick you up at your building but ride share services have been hit or miss on this and I'm honestly not sure what the current status is?

You are really getting me through this quarantine! :) Quick question, is it true that when you buy direct from Disney that the least amount of points that you must buy are 75? That's what I was told for the Riviera. I was wondering if it's true for every resort? Hi, Emma! I'm not sure on the current minimum, but I do know that whatever it is it will be for all resorts. And YES you can absolutely get put on a waiting list for sold out resorts - that one I do know as that's how we purchased Old Key West. Hope that helps!! I just started watching this video, so I apologize if you're going to cover this, but we're staying at OKW for the first time next week :) We'll be heading over to DS most nights. Should we be requesting building 55 or a building close by? I read that building 55 is closest to the walkway to DS. We've stayed at SSR a few times, and loved how close the Congress Park section was to that DS walkway. Thank you in advance!

You actually can’t walk to Disney Springs from OKW. I’m sorry! There is usually boat transportation but I’m not sure that’s running currently.

It absolutely is. It can be very expensive at times when surge pricing is in affect (so park opening and close) but it’s much faster.

We are booked for October 2021 at OKW, but we didn't plan a car into our budget. We were told that staying on property meant that we wouldn't need one because we could use the buses that run through. Do I need a car if I'm at OKW? What are the consequences of not having one?

But if you get on at the first stop 🛑 you will get a seat. Getting on at the last stop 🛑 could mean you’re standing.

The only time I’ve been irritated with Disney bus service is when I got stung by a wasp while waiting in line. Other than that the wait doesn’t bother me because I use that time to get organized while I stand there.

Jen Lefforge it was certainly memorable. My husband was super excited to see Pandora for the first time so we still went out to the park. I got to see the Animal Kingdom first aid station and the amazing people in there.

Just a DVC question. My wife and I were recently talking about if you buy points direct now, in 2020, for the older DVC resorts, OKW, BWV, etc. we didn't know if they give you a contract life of 50 years from the year or purchase or if the contract still expires at the original expiration date for instance, 2042 for our BWV points? I guess you would know the answer since you bought OKW direct in 2018 or 2019 (can't remember when you made the purchase). I am thinking it is the original expiration date unless you bought some of those rare OKW points that had an extension purchased by the original owner. You should do one of these videos for all of the DVC resorts and the other resorts you have stayed at. That would give you an excuse to stay at more of the resorts and you might even be able to write off the cost as a business expense.

Going again in 2021, my sister is the DVC Member and every 2-4 years we take a family trip ( family is expanding) we would like to go a few days earlier than the rest and stay at OKW. We have been before in 2003 and it is one of our favorites❤ Well it is a favorite for us older ones since my mother was with us in 2003 and she was 84 at the time. We were near the Hospitality House and if we missed the bus at one stop we could catch it at another. No elevator, 2nd floor I dont remember which building but we all loved it. Ages ranged at that time 14 yrs -84 years. It was Great! Thank You for your information, I just came across your channel. New Subscriber 🙂

Fun Fact: Your favorite building #12 is the only type "G" building at the resort. Both floors have a single studio, a single 1 bedroom, and three 2 bedroom units. Also I can't remember if you said which buildings have elevators, if you didn't, it is 62, 63, and 64. If you did, just ignore the last sentence.

Buildings 49 and 50 are more Motel6 than DVC since you are right off a busy 6 lane road. No laid back feel and horrible sleeping. DVC should be ashamed they put anyone in those buildings. Ashamed.

If you don’t need the extra space do not stay ay OKW. No indoor food court, her comments on transportation are false. We have stayed at every Disney property and this is by far the worst resort. We had to drive to parks and Disney Springs three times during our week stay. Also being a DVC property they only clean the room every other day, Golf carts all day and up to midnight every night. Golf corse workers working all day within the property, by far the worst noise at Disney. Definitely an adult resort, not a family resort. Small pools are full of adults with beer coolers, not a Disney feel.
