I have been going through the minor differences in this ride between Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. Disneyland's version is apparently optimized to be more enjoyable for the third and fourth ride vehicles since some scenes have changed their timing to allow them to gain more context and view time of the scenes themselves. I find this very interesting and really nice of them to go through this trouble so everyone can enjoy the ride no matter which seat you're on.

@@taffysaur Not necessarily. For the riders in the front, there are just some little minor changes made to time events for everyone else, like Mickey and Minnie getting launched out the tornado in the jungle scene, so it is perfectly timed for all riders when Mickey and Minnie actually appear in bush. It's really minor so it doesn't hinder the experience for anyone.

It's not "really nice of them to go through that trouble", it should be expected to provide an equally good experience for every guest, especially for a company as big as Disney. This is precisely why Disney theme parks have been going downhill recently: people are not only accepting, but applauding actions that are just "good enough" at best.

It already is JUST because it didn’t replace a remarkable classic in Great Movie Ride. The queue looks nicer imo. I do also think the entrance looks better in Disneyland than in HS. I love the Chinese Palace theater over here in HS, but something about the small scale theater makes more sense to me than the Chinese Palace. However, I still see the same issues I personally have, such as not much innovation with the trackless ride system and the sets still looking a bit empty and not as fleshed out, but it does look, if only slightly, better than the one over here in HS. All of this is in my opinion ofc 👍

@@lutherheggs451 good thing we can agree to disagree. I respect your opinion tho 👍 for me it was a perfect thesis for the MGM park, bringing to life all sorts of scenes from all different classic films. Even if the ride wasn’t in its best shape in its last few years, it was nothing a refurbishment could’ve fixed. Plus, a Mickey and Minnie cartoon in the Chinese Palace theater that has nothing to do with the central theme of the park? Disney could’ve just as easily just make the Great Disney Movie Ride and it would’ve been a perfect replacement thematically. And they wouldn’t have to keep paying for the license rights. And they could even use the franchises and classic films Disney acquired from 20th Century Fox, and employ Star Wars and maybe even select Marvel scenes. Likewise, I’m also sorry I’m not sorry, it didn’t have to go and replace it with something no where even near as good, creative, endearing, interactive, or artistic as Great Movie Ride

While I’m still of the opinion that the attraction itself leaves a lot to be desired and relies too much on screens/projections as opposed to physical set pieces. However, with that said, that queue is truly special. Perhaps the queue is a more meaningful part of the attraction than the ride itself! I think the idea of a walkthrough Mickey exhibit where you can see different props or items from his cartoons is brilliant. I actually got a little choked up seeing the queue, and I just watched the video! Haven’t even been inside yet. But that queue just looked so adorable.

You should still go inside. The way they blend the cartoon elements and physical elements is pretty neat. My only criticism for the ride is that Mickey and Minnie’s heads look too globe-y. Another thing I've noticed between the two versions is that the factory transformation isn't quite as intricate in California. At Disneyland, it seems to just be a change in the projections, but in WDW, many of the flats fold up into the triangle shapes of the trees as the projection transforms. Seems like no one ever brings that up. Nevertheless, this is a phenomenal attraction that my whole family adored when we went to WDW during the holidays.

@Mechasonicrocks Жыл бұрын
@@R.444- Despite having been born in 1986, I actually remember watching and very much enjoying “House of Mouse” for two personal reasons: 1. People are always saying the MCU is “the most ambitious crossover in fictional media”. This is FALSE. “House of Mouse” is, because it managed to bring together characters from multiple eras and mediums of Disney animated canon (the Disney Channel animated television series character Pepper Ann and her mother got a cutaway gag style cameo in one instance) more often then not having their respective voice actors/actresses (this was impressive for the cameos from Disney animated movie characters that got spoken dialogue during an episode, as most had the voices of notable and expensive celebrities of the time) and even the non-speaking cameos were surprising to spot (the Horned King from “The Black Cauldron” was one I enjoyed seeing). The show was chock full of clever writing, great humor and really built off of the character quirks that were established in the various animated movies and tv shows that made up of the “House of Mouse” club’s audience. 2. It allowed a third chance for Donald’s three nephews (and my personal favorite Disney characters) Huey, Dewey, and Louie to finally break out of their seemingly eternal childhood and mature into young adults. I said “seemingly eternal”, as Disney only ever let the boys age past their default age range of 8-10 three times so far, although with not much long-term success, and they would then revert back to being kids again after each attempt. The first instance of the triplets growing up was in an episode of the original 1987 version of “Ducktales” called “Duck to the Future”, where their Uncle Scrooge McDuck is sent to an alternate future where Huey and his brothers are full grown adults, but sadly have little visual change to them aside from having adult body proportions and deeper voices. As a throwaway aspect to this episode’s plot, obviously not much thought or effort was lent to really developing the idea of how the three boys and their dynamic as triplets might evolve after so many years. The second attempt was (in my opinion) the most misunderstood, and it’s partially the fault of fans jumping to conclusions and as of recent date the Disney+ streaming service. It came in the form of 1996’s animated series “Quack Pack”, and featured the boys as 16-year-old teens, living in suburban Duckburg with their Uncle Donald, who had completed his tour of duty with the Navy and got a job with the now news journalist Daisy as her cameraman. The show did have a few issues, including being heavily dated in content and style. The biggest issue most have is that it was always believed to be a direct sequel to the beloved 1987 “Ducktales” series, and if you watch it with this train of thought in mind, it’s a really terrible show. Thing is, “Quack Pack” was never meant to follow up “Ducktales”. It’s not in the same universe, and is curiously a continuation of the old “Donald Duck” cartoon shorts that were released prior to the creation of “Ducktales”. In said cartoon shorts, there was no Uncle Scrooge McDuck, the world around Donald did occasionally feature human beings in the stories alongside Donald and his nephews (this was a big criticism of “Quack Pack”, people hated that humans were interacting with the Duck family). The issue is further complicated by the series description of “Quack Pack” on Disney+ outright calling it a sequel to “Ducktales”. It’s not, and the show creators never intended it to be. The third time we see the nephews get a chance at maturing past childhood was “House of Mouse”, and they seem to actually be a little older than they were in “Quack Pack” (in which the boys were supposed to be 16 years old). I’d guess the boys are probably around 18 in this series, and although their designs bear a bit of resemblance, the voices of the nephews clearly indicate they aren’t meant to be the same ones from “Quack Pack”. The running gag that they were always switching up the name and music style of their band was very funny.
@Mechasonicrocks
@Mechasonicrocks Жыл бұрын
@@R.444- Also, my two favorite episodes were the one where Huey, Dewey and Louie have a falling out and quit as the club’s primary musical act (as ridiculous and silly as it seems, the reason the episode provides for their split is sadly on-point for their relationship dynamic across most every series they’ve been in and is how three identical triplets would likely handle the situation). This episode is unfortunately really the only episode where this series’ particular version of the triplets get any actual plot focus aside from the usual quick cutaway musical performance or background appearance. My second favorite is the one where Scrooge McDuck bought out ownership of the “House of Mouse” club from Pete, and his first major decision was to fire his grand-nephews from their (assumed) paying job as the house band and replace them with a generic stereo boombox in an effort to save money…Ouch.

Still think the Runaway Railway ride should've been based around famous Mickey Mouse shorts. Instead, imagine if it took you inside a scene from Steamboat Willie & Plane Crazy, then The Storm, then Lonesome Ghosts, Fantasia's Sorcerer's Apprentice, Fun & Fancy Free's Mickey & the Beanstalk & it all culminates in Mickey's Birthday Party. I feel it would be more timeless than the Flash animation/art-style. You could go thru each scene & experience ambient effects like rain, water, wind, thunder & lightning. In Runaway Railway, the trackless ride system is very cool, & the projections give everything a nice glow. However, it could all be put to much better use in a better ride which, stylistically & aesthetically, will get old, real fast.

I felt the same feeling when passing through into the cartoon. I said to myself "I'm back in Florida." The same thing happened the first time I went into the Hollywood Studios Galaxy's Edge. It was eerie. Our queue is 100% superior to Florida's. I almost lost my mind when I saw the Mousekedoer. I watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fairly often as a kid and to see that was awesome. There are some things you expect to see, like the Sorcerer's Hat or references to the classic shorts, but seeing such a huge tribute to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was amazing. It would have been super awesome and very fitting, though, if there was a reference to House of Mouse, but I didn't see one. As for the ride itself, I'm happy with the things that changed and I'm happy with the things that stayed the same. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that for YEARS we've heard that there was going to be a new scene in the ride and that Disneyland's would be expanded. The new addition that is in there is hardly an "extra scene." I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but the new scene was pretty hyped up and didn't deliver. It really felt like it was there to pad out loading and unloading times so that vehicles wouldn't be stacked for so long, like they do in Florida. However, I do love the ride. Runaway Railway was my favorite ride at Hollywood Studios, and instantly one of my new top rides at Disneyland. I'm so glad I can ride it now whenever I want to.

I loved the ride, it was awesome and much better in person. I think some of the people like Poseidon really exaggerated how mid the ride was. I went into it and I thought it was awesome. It was a wonderful mix of physical sets, digital stuff, and animatronics. It was a well blended experience. Also, did people love the queue? I loved it! It was full of mad Mickey nods and cool references for Goof Troop/Movie fans as well with one of the posters.

no I agree 100% while I do think some critiques are to be had with the ride I don’t think it’s as bad as some people say it is and given the right context (such as the Toontown land and the themed queue in California) I think there’s a ton of potential waiting to be explored with this kind of ride

Now that the superior Disneyland version is open, they can close the Hollywood Studios version and reopen The Great Movie Ride! 😂

Here are some differences that I noticed (aside from the queue and preshow): *There are some ride layout differences: **At Hollywood Studios, the track begins to curve to the left before the first tunnel. At Disneyland, it begins to curve left after you've entered the tunnel. **The cars exit the dance studio to the left at Hollywood Studios and to the right at Disneyland. **Disneyland's version has an extra scene where you travel through a barn. **The Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto animatronics are placed to the left of the cars in Hollywood Studios' finale, and to the right in Disneyland's finale. *In the Hollywood Studios version, Mickey drives slowly and stops near the track switch, which takes a few seconds to fall. In the Disneyland version, Mickey drives a bit faster and bumps into the switch, causing it to fall much faster. *Both versions of the ride have different animations projected onto the walls in the western scene. *Different props are used in the factory transformation scene. For example, the trees are triangular and pointy in Hollywood Studios' version after the transformation takes effect. *Some scenes have minor texture and visual differences between the two versions of the ride. *Each version has its own easter eggs. For example, in the Hollywood Studios version, there is an advertisement for the "Great Moving Ride" in the carnival scene, which is a reference to the Great Movie Ride, a ride that was replaced by Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. However, in Disneyland's version, this poster is missing.

they really should have had your train do a rotation around the twister instead of just rotating to look at it. I always thought that was a space constraint at hollywood studios that would have been upgraded for disneyland

One of the things I really appreciate is riding with you and other people who get into the spirit of the ride and try to vocally participate. That makes a difference. It's one of the reasons I enjoy riding with small children, they don't hold back.

I went on this February 1st via a virtual queue. The queue was empty, and 2 of the 4 vehicles for our ride were entirely empty. I really feel like this is a massive waste of such a great queue and a new ride to this coast. How many families came wanting to ride the new ride and were unable to? And the time when people want to sit in the queue the most is when they make sure there is absolute no line?!?!? If they can't figure out how to a semi effecient virtual queue, they need to just eat their words and do a standby.

I absolutely adore the Mickey Mouse shorts this ride is based on. My wife and I found them on our honeymoon and now they’re a core part of our Disney Parks vacation. The Easter eggs in the queue and on the ride make my heart feel full. I would absolutely recommend watching the shorts and the Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse show on Disney+ before riding.

IMO, even though the Disneyland version was amazing and didn’t replace a beloved ride like the great movie ride, I found the queue very overwhelming and a long wait just to get on the ride. Personally, I prefer the Disney world one because, even though it lacks scenery in the queue, and doesn’t have the Mickey stuff ‘through the ages’ or whatever, it still kept the Chinese theater design outside which to me, seems like a tribute to a loved ride that we’ll never forget. The design at Disneyland is rlly cool, but I love that they kept the Chinese theater instead of erasing The Great Movie Ride entirely.

the only thing i will say about the overall ride experience is that i hate how the finale was switched sides over the DHS one because i liked how it all circled around mickey and minnie while the DL version is just a straight path which i don’t like as much But im aware this is nitpicking.

No, you have a valid point. I’ve not been on the DL version (or been to the park for that matter). Though, from videos of it, I can see how it’s not as smooth. Though, I think I would take DL’s version of HS. I wish they had kept the Great Movie Ride and put M&M RRW in Animation Courtyard. They could’ve taken out Star Wars Launch Bay and put the ride there, since we already have Galaxy’s Edge. An update to the Great Movie Ride would’ve been nice, tho.

I think it would have been nice to have a Kingdom Hearts reference in there since Mickey's such an important character in that series. it wouldn't have had to be big or anything but like, Mickey's keyblade rested among the various props of the new era would have probably had weebs FLOODING the ride just to take a picture with King Mickey's Keyblade
@Valhalla05
@Valhalla05 Жыл бұрын
It would've been cool, but the creator would have to then somehow fit the entire Mickey Mouse canon into KH's canon. That's the same reason why Sora was kept out of Smash Bros for years.
@MsMoonfan4ever
@MsMoonfan4ever Жыл бұрын
@Valhalla05 I mean not really? Since the entire line kind of implies that mickey in this ride exists beyond the 4th wall, King Mickey would just be another role he's played, it's possibly the one time where due to the acknowledgement of the 4th wall KH can get away scot free

Yeah, the room is going to be a gift shop. I’m guessing that either they don’t have the item as yet (since Disney is notorious for opening things and then finishing them), or that they are waiting until the rest of Toontown opens. If their waiting, it’s probably because they have merchandise related to the new parts of Toontown they don’t want to reveal yet.

I walked by the front of the Hollywood Studios one in December, but I've never been on it. I only had two park days in Florida and the only reason I even had time to go into Hollywood Studios was that I knocked out every attraction in Epcot by 6PM. Then I did Rock N Roller Coaster and Tower Of Terror. I'll probably go to Disneyland and try this ride in September on a weekday.

But I just realized something the Hollywood Studios one makes more sense because you go from the real world into the cartoons by going inside the theater, we’re as in cali your going from the cartoon land into the movies? That’s confusing because you start and end in the world of cartoons so Hollywood Studios wins for me because it makes more sense, as it was made for Orlando Florida

I’ve only ever been on the DHS one but I think it’s poignant that I just honestly don’t really remember the queue at all even though I’ve ridden it twice. Wonderful ride, perhaps one of the best Disney has ever made. But I also think it’s worth pointing out that DHS’s compared to DL’s are in completely different parks and spaces with different purposes. It’s not that Disney was lazy at DHS, there’s just a different purpose to it.

Does anyone remember a few months ago when an imagineer tweeted that something in this version of MMRR was similar to something that Nintendo land was going to have, but Disney had it planned first? The answer is obviously the “museum” style queue, right? Since the Mario Kart ride has sort of the same thing happening.

Disney should paint all the dark ride ceilings with Vanta Black paint, that doesn’t allow light to hit. It would make the sky’s look much darker and harder to see. This could work for Pirates, The inside of the Mexican Pavilion, and other rides set at night and are inside
