They’re not as good. When a company hires for appearance instead of qualifications and ignores any labor laws that inconvenience them it not only puts an extra burden on competent employees, the workplace in general is less safe.

My father retired from Disneyland after 25 years of service. He started in 1955 which was the year the park opened. It was a different time and a completely different company. Before Disney’s death (Age 65) in 1966, my father and his co-workers had the pleasure to chat with Walt Disney when he would make his rounds backstage through the workshops. Walt Disney would try to sneak away from his executives when possible and spend time with the guys. I’m pretty sure Bob Igor isn’t sneaking away from the Boardrooms and C-Suites to spend time with the Cast Members. Hey, I could be wrong!!

A local family of 4 going to Disneyland for one day (not park hopper) will cost more than $1000. There are other/better options in So Cal for that price. I can't even justify going to Disneyland one day for $200 ($300 if I include parking, genie+, and food) when not all the rides are operational, entertainment is cut, and I get this bad/unwanted feeling about some guests going in front or has priority seating. I want to love Disneyland again, but now I can't.

You are so right! When DCA opened Disney needed employees. As a pass holder I attended the DCA pass holder preview and could not believe the appearance of the cast members. I have been going to the park since Sept 1955 and I'm a local resident. A vast majority of these new cast members would never met Walt's standards.

I can't speak to the reasons you've laid out here, but I think there's a piece of context about treatment of employees by guests missing. I worked in the same customer service position before, during, and after the covid lockdowns. Not at disney or anything, just a regular front facing customer service position. I can say with absolute certainty, and I've yet to have someone I've spoken to disagree with me about this, that the behavior of the general public is much much worse post lockdown then ever before. It's honestly shocking how bad it was and is. It's as if lockdowns made people forget how to behave in public, especially with how to treat the employees who are there to help them. Sure, most people are strapped for cash and the frustration may be elevated at a place like a disney park due to all the things you listed. But in general, dealing with the general public is way more difficult and demoralizing than it ever used to be.

They celebrate lbgtq’s an entire month, pushing that on everyone going during pride month. Some would say that lbgtq are a mental illness. Then those who are physically disabled can’t get a DAS PASS. ONLY mental illnesses or disabilities can get DAS. DISNEY isn’t what Walt Disney meant for it to be. He wanted a place where everyone could enjoy the park, I’m sure that even meant being able to afford a ticket. Then the most expensive pass was with no block out dates, then they raised the price and put block outdates on it. Cast members shouldn’t be underpaid when they charge such high rates on everything. It’s not the park Walt Disney wanted it to be. Those who are in the higher up are making milions a year in salaries. I’m selling my stock.

In Europe (most countries) unions are (1) 100% independent from the company (they exist as nationwide social partners, not attached to any business) (2) embedded in the legal civil rights of workers, who are ALWAYS free to attach to the union of their choice, 100% loose from the place where they work (an employer refusing 'union workers' in his facility, is comitting a crime) (3) are the legally protected (!) spokespartners representing the employees, when general minimum guaranteed labour conditions are getting fixed with the industries (receiving 'strenght of law') ... In other words, Americans do not have the faintest idea about advanced labour rights at all.

Before a strike actually happens, members willbe considering how long they can survive withoout a paycheck. A strike can also be set to only a few days, or a weekend. The strike right now is a double edged sword...right now with those numbers disney can't afford to ignore it. However right now the disney company can't afford much more, compete with epic universe and fund the hugely over budgeted movie division. I agree it was a needed step for the disney staff to be part of a uniou the fact we had so many reports that most could not afford to live in the same area as the parks or even to eat on site was just heart breaking. My main concern is the level of goals i hope this effort is being very heavily focused onto a few key things that are most important because there is then a chance for things to work out for the best

More money and less quality is a problem in this day and age for the customers. Disney charges for everything now and the basics are far more than most people can afford at this time. The quality has gone way down and so those who can still afford it apparently are choosing other recreational activities that are less costly and higher quality. And most Disney geeks and freaks can no longer afford annual passes and if they can't afford those they won't be bringing anyone else with them anymore who have to pay for a day's visit. And the Disneyland employees have never been treated very well. You have to love working there to do so because the employer will only do the bare minimum, if that. If you put in for vacation a year in advance but an employee who is above you puts in for the same time period only weeks in advance, your vacation time is cancelled. You either cancel your trip or you quit. The cast members used to paid the least amount of money because they had so many who wanted to be them. The maintenance and cleaners were paid the most for obvious reasons. And there used to be multiple unions for each type of work. I'm assuming that is still all the same.

Imagine the cast members are not only striking for D23, but if that one month target holds, they could be on strike during their next investor’s call. I’m sure they would want to praise Inside Out 2 as a success and rightfully so, but this is could be a black cloud over that too. Just because I looked it up, the previous investor’s day call for Q3 2023 was August 9, 2023. I’m betting it could be the Tuesday-Wednesday before D23 or just after. What Disney should do is let the lower annual passholders be able to go during this blackout time I can’t even go until the middle of August and I have like the third lowest tier that I get Sundays, but not Saturdays even if they open that up, they would get a spike from all the passholders that are going to universal magic Mountain Knotts Berry Farm in SoCal

APs per capita/day spending isn't high enough to make much difference. Then, there's their entitled attitudes. Disney isn't going to kiss up to APs.

They announced last year that they are going to spend $60 billion dollars to expand the parks over the next 10 years. But when it comes to paying workers a bit more Disney who is the largest entertainment company in the world can't afford it?! Your entire statement is foolish.

@@gmo8492 You just gave the perfect example of why a union can make demands that are not as reasonable as they think. That 60 Billion dollars that are saved up or borrowed should not be used to pay for increased continual costs.

This is what happens when a large quantity of unskilled workers think they can't be replaced. I worked for an amusement park for 5 years. Some jobs, like maintenance, are definitely skilled positions. Most are unskilled. That's why I stopped working there once I finished school and got a real job.
@anggasurbakti8269
@anggasurbakti8269 15 күн бұрын
some unskilled workers cannot be replaced actually. An example is garbage men, not many people want to work that so if you fire them all, you cannot get enough replacement quickly while trash will accumulate causing bad smell. We really need to stop attacking unskilled workers because they actually are the one that keeps our society while skilled workers improve our society

As an actress myself, I find this situation very interesting. It takes a very special kind of person to portray a costumed character. You really have to have that in your blood. Most costumes are heavy, uncomfortable, and extremely hot. I can totally see the appeal of having extra rules in places like Disney to protect the actors. In this situation, Disney seems to have the "working for us is a privilege! We have 100 other people we could replace you with at any moment. Get out there and be grateful you work for us." Attitude about the situation. I'm not convinced unionizing is the solution here, but I can certainly understand the argument from the cast members' side.

Guys, you really need to cover the awful "Time Bandits" preview that just came out from Apple TV. It's another bastardization of a classic film. Nothing about it looks amusing or even funny. Basically, the concept is to once again change everything that made the original movie fun and engaging, especially the main cast of little actors and make them generic adults that don't even fit their roles whatsoever. Not once did this make me laugh, just cringe. It comes across like an even worse form of Amazon's destruction of the "Rings" stories. I'd like to see Terry Gilliam's reaction to this travesty. When every set looks like a CGI green screen situation, you know the budget was garbage. The total lack of creativity in Hollywood now is astounding. All they can do is remake and reboot beloved films and TV shows, only worse. Everyone needs to ratio these previews into the ground. Those saying this looks amazing and great clearly have never seen the original film, and have no desire to enjoy good entertainment since they think this is excellent. Seriously, nothing about this comes across as entertaining, unless you just want background noise while doing something else.

Disney can afford to pay employees that support (main support) the part of the company that contributes well over 50% profits. The cost of living is southern California has shot up near 10% over pre pandemic times. Then how do you expect employees make it to work if you can’t provide reasonable cost of living pay. Examine where your labor dollars are going Disney, there is waste of money spent on employment that is redundant. I challenge all social media to get out there & talk with the cast members. Get the stories, the facts about the issue. Don’t sit in your home/office & use online sources. Talk to the Unions & get facts.

The problem is not what Disney pays....it is California and their insane laws, taxes, and insanity. It is also unskilled labor demanding skilled wages. I can train someone to sweep trash in 10 minutes....it's an entry level job. If you are in your late 20s or older doing it, you are the problem. You didn't make any effort to obtain useful skills or you have a problem keeping your mouth shut and doing your job. (unemployable).
