Thanks very much Jennifer! Yes, combining both the smudge technique (which I learned from Tim Holtz when oxides first came out) with the shadow effect technique (which I thought I invented, but it was apparently there under "bump effect") gets really striking and easy results! I've taught that at several make and takes and people love it! :)

I have been doing paper crafts for 20 years and have seen so many people try and convince me (us?...the people, lol) That one stamp, one ink, one paper can be exciting. This the first time I literally got out of my seat to try it immediately. Love the smudge and bump! This is the first video that has convinced me that I NEED some distress oxides.
@scrapcosy
@scrapcosy 3 жыл бұрын
hehehe, I'm really happy it got you inspired to try it! It's fun, isn't it? Everytime I release some stamps, I just have to create a card using these 2 techniques together. It's so quick, simple and striking. Love them! I hope you had fun too! And you don't need all the inks, you can just stick to your fave colour. I think my favourite for this is faded jeans... have a nice weekend!! :)

Another great idea Raquel. What a clever technique. I am in love with grunge paste and the up and over shadow effect! I realise now having used grunge paste a couple of times that I need to get a bigger palette knife which will make it easier to apply. Polly 🙂

Happy you like it Polly! Try to use an old debit card or gift card in the meantime until you find a good spatula. The one I use is from Paperartsy, I've added the link, so in case you buy again from them, you can remember and get it too if you haven't found one already 😉 have a lovely weekend!!😘😘

Hello! New subbie here. I’m so pleased to have found your channel! What a fun technique this is for the distress oxides. Your cards are all beautiful! I had to go and try it straight away! Lol. My shadow on the word didn’t turn out too good as I don’t have the grunge paste ( mine is thinner consistency) but overall I’m so pleased with the card I made.I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you so much for sharing. Hugs, Dee xox 🇬🇧

I can't believe how beautiful this simple technique is. I would never have had that idea. Thank you so much for sharing. ANother reason to finally get some distress oxides. :o You mentioned that light colours don't work as good as dark ones. But since oxides are quite intense on dark backgrounds, I really wonder how it would look if you do this technique with a vibrant colour on dark paper. If it works, it must look fantastic.
@scrapcosy
@scrapcosy 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks! The smudge technique is by Tim Holtz, i just added more depth in my cards by adding more ink to some parts and leave more whites in others. Regarding the dark paper, I would love to see it too. It may work... but according to the theory my guess is: you would get just blur. Why? because the dye should disappear into the darkness of the paper (defining your stamp, but since it's translucent you should see barely nothing) and then the pigment would be seen. I hope to be wrong because I agree with you, it would look awesome. Maybe we can use a brown paper (kraft colour) rather than black and we may still get the effect. Let me know if you try! I'll do the same! ;)

Thanks so much Geena! I saw the smudge technique (just stamp and smudge) from Tim Holtz (I'll try to search for the video and link it in the description) a long time ago, but for some reason, it's not a technique that has spread much. I added my twist by doing darker zones and leaving whiter zones to create that volume effect and when mixing that with the bumped technique (shadow and texture paste) you just get a quick and easy result pretty stunning, right?

Better use darker colours, just test your inks with one small stamp first so you can see what works best (as you can see in my video, I show a stripe of paper with a small butterfly, it was to test the inks and to show you different results). Give it a go and ask me any questions you have! Have a lovely evening!! :)
