I went diving with cowboy and he rescued 5 pregnant women, mapped a new cave on a single breath hold, and went to 10k meters with no decompression stops. Everyone was chanting his name and the mayor gave him the key to the city. And he even made it home in time for dinner and gave his wife a big kiss.

He told me I couldn't dive with him anymore after we found Atlantis, but it was being used by Russia to train dolphins to Kamikaze bomb the Pentagon. As you can imagine, I freaked out and silted the whole place out. He gave me his tanks and dragged me out on a single breath.

I am Super diver and super crawler (certified) myself. Number one rule in Super Diving is TRAINING. There are many open cave divers and open crawlers who attempt Super caves only to perish due to their inflated egos. Many such cases. Another reason we generally don't mix with open cave divers is the strength of our mental fortitude. Open cave divers simply lack the training required for intense high risk and panic situation. For example, in Super cave diving we are taught to abandon our partner to their certain death if they show any signs of distress or have a problem. Abandoning your long time diving buddy to die in a cave requires more mental fortitude than most can imagine. I'm on my 5th buddy so far. Perhaps my buddies DO get confused when I float up and crawl around cave ceilings and cause constant silt outs, but I am certain their untimely deaths are because they normal cave divers and nor Super cave divers, always trying to help me when I'm crawling cave ceilings. They should have known the rules. Please get proper training, folks.

You held back because of some negative feedback from people who do not understand cave diving, nor have comprehension of stupid things he's saying, him including. He is the reason why you have to be honest. Ne ego in cave diving and this guy is trying to look cool and heroic but we who do this or did this know he's talking nonsense. I appreciate Woody playing Devil's Advocate and giving him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm seeing the way he's talking about how dangerous it is as bragging. I don't see this as him warning people and owning up to his mistakes; this sounds like him just saying how dangerous it is because he wants to seem more badass. Yeah, even though he said “I did everything wrong, I made all these mistakes” the way he says it makes it seem like he actually means “look how tough I am, I did all this stupid stuff and I still made it out.” He just wants everyone to react like “wow, you’re so amazing to have made it through that.” I’ve met people who tell stories like that and even though it seems like they’re acknowledging their wrongdoing, they haven’t actually learned anything and are just saying it to get a better reaction from their audience.

Gus, I'm a fan of Cerrone as a fighter, but you're 100% on point. Woody isnt really hearing the story correctly. Cerrone is claiming he ran out of air while he was grabbing the treasure box (mid-emergency, no less), still 30 feet underwater, before he even STARTED his nonsensical crawl up the shore. Also, that water would have to be VERY salty to not freeze at 30 degrees. Finally, under no circumstances should you dive with Donald Cerrone. I like Dive Talk. Woody..you need to learn what Humble-Bragging is. He’s saying that he’s fearless and brave and that safety doesn’t factor into his decisions because of these qualities. Just to preface, I haven’t actually gotten too far into this video yet, but I thought I’d share this. When Cowboy retired last weekend I wanted to see his cave story again, when I stumbled across your channel for the first time. And I’m not going to lie, I too thought you guys were being too critical at FIRST. I didn’t know y’all’s background and experience in cave diving nor do I have experience of my own. But after watching the entire video I started to become fascinated with the idea of cave diving, it was then that I realized what your “ego” that I was perceiving actually was. I didn’t know about the “tough love” mentality that is involved and very necessary for cave diving. You guys didn’t actually have any ego in that video, you called someone out for not being accurate in their story. And even if everything he said in his story was true, COWBOY was the one who was actually making the situation worse, despite how he was pushing the opposite to be true. You guys got a lot of eyes from people, including me, from outside the world of cave diving on that video, hence the criticism. But after binge watching you guys everyday for a little over a week, y’all are amazing and I have the upmost respect for you guys. Love the content!

@AddiesNBaddies what? I wasn’t necessarily critiquing them, just explaining why they most likely got flack from Donald Cerrone fans in the first video, using my own experience. Gus I agree that his approach to diving may seem too appealing and exciting for inexperienced divers and to be like him and have “extreme “ experiences like him that they might be tempted to take dangerous risks that could be fatal.

I'm with Gus. He was clear that he ran out of air as soon as he grabbed the treasure (at 30ft.), THEN he started crawling out. To crawl that far of a distance to the shore, with no air, carrying something, and with such a heavy suit as he claims, just isn't possible. He's definitely exaggerating/embellishing.
@miashinbrot8388

Succession of events as Cerrone described it: 1) His second stage (I think he said second stage) exploded and he started rapidly losing air. 2) Before or after this, his drysuit ripped. 3) He started crawling to the surface. 4) Still (probably) at a depth of 30 feet, he stopped crawling and started to dig for the "treasure" (which was probably NOT the $1,000 worth of silver coins he talked about earlier). 5) He discovered he was completely out of air. 6) Holding his breath, he crawled for the surface -- 30 feet up and an unknown distance horizontally. No. Not believable. Just no. I agree with the others who said he was humble-bragging when he talked about how he was stupid and did everything wrong. Woody, I admire you for giving him credit for admitting he had been wrong and stupid, but I don't think he has any intention of doing better in the future. Cerrone's message seems to me to be something like, "I did everything wrong and broke all the rules, and I survived and got out of there with "the thing". Yay me!"

I just kept telling myself another 8 seconds and I would count… then tell myself you can do another 12, then count and when I start feeling like I’m gonna panic? I tell my self the human can handle atleast 2 minutes haha so I just kept going every 4 seconds or 5 seconds telling myself I can push more and more and the longest I went was 2 minutes which i was surprised hahaha it was hard tho. Lol but I kept telling myself I would be okay and I didn’t panic from lack of oxygen I understood what I was doing..

That reminds me of this crazy experience I had, when I got solo diving in a cave, then my first stages both blew up, my inflator hose got disconnected from my wing, and my harness teared up. At the same time my canister got leaked and my masks (both) broke. Thankfuflly I had my pickaxe I use during ice diving, and I started digging a new tunnel following my compass, though my compass was missaligned pointing towards some high voltage cables. I got electrocuted but thankfully by gloves actually protected me. Long story short in a single breath I discovered a very friendly mermaid civilization that were kind enough to lend me a WW2 german Uboat to return back home. Excluding the fight with a giant squid that i had to neutrilize by opening a porthhole and stabing it with my 5'' diving knife, it was a smooth ride. I was extremely stupid to solo dive in a cave and not carefully check my equipment. Do not do it guys. Always dive with your buddies and with the city plans to avoid hitting power cables.

This is precisely how I perceive his stories. Well said! I love Woody, but I genuinely don’t understand how he could perceive this as not having an ego. He’s trying to make himself sound impressive to inflate his ego while simultaneously trying to keep those lesser divers safe by saying it was stupid. All it serves to do is separate himself from other divers bc he’s so reckless and crazy (and in his mind therefore “cool”) so other divers shouldn’t even attempt to be as “cool” as him. Just another thinly veiled attempt to stroke his ego. Some “Legend” he is 🙄

Like Woody I tend to try and give the benefit of the doubt, but “I broke the rules” and “I did the wrong thing” are just hollow words if you don’t take action, and this is very clearly a pattern of behaviour. Unless and until he proves that he actually believes those words he is absolutely untrustworthy and shouldn’t be a spokesperson for diving. Also his timeline of events either mean he’s lying or he is a colossal idiot. I’m no diver but it seems like common sense that if something as serious as a flooded dry suit and a tank malfunction occurs and you are running out of air YOU IMMEDIATELY ABORT THE DIVE. You don’t continue so you can get your ‘treasure’ (leading to having no air to get back to the surface!)

In any discussion worth having you must dare to be wrong and to offend someone. In a reaction video I want to see someone's honest reaction, whether or not they are correct about that which they are reacting to. In my opinion it's perfectly fine to say "He's clearly lying", or similar. That doesn't mean that you're sitting on some evidence that would hold up in court, it's just your reaction. After 1 minute you don't feel your feet or hands and it's VERY painful. Longer? Moving numb hands and legs crawling under water your body and mind panicking because that is the default in freezing water (unless you get used to it by regularly ice water hardening) I find pretty unbelievable. I've been there and even 4 C water, 6C water is painful AF. I know nothing about diving. But just the freezing water and him staying calm and crawl.... Oh well, I have my own opinion about that.

This, 100%. I fell into a meltwater pond as a teenager and barely was able to swim back to shore. We were being morons and blocking the water in a massive underpass tunnel, then a buddy would unblock it and we would ride the wave through the tunnel on a saucer sled. At the end of the 1/4 mile ride, there was a rope dangling. I was hauling ass and missed the rope. I skipped like a rock right into the center of the meltwater pond before the sled dumped me off. After 45 seconds of swimming to the shore, I couldn't keep my arms up enough to propel myself through the water. Luckily I had swam close enough in 30 seconds that my feet JUST touched the bottom and my Darwin award was revoked. Or maybe delayed. Time will tell. The near hypothermic hike back to the car wasn't awesome either. That cold water just leeches your life away. And you do it ON PURPOSE!
@sedmidivka
@sedmidivka 2 жыл бұрын
@@Lesardah :D Yes, we do it on purpose and I would recommend it to anyone :) Just the satisfaction alone that you can overcome the fear and the cold, overcome the great stress your body will get into, the panic you feel. To use your mind to stay in the water and not to run out immediately, to be able to calm yourself down. It's truly addicting and you suddenly feel like a badass especially when there are people walking by watching in awe 😂 What is amazing that the pain will actually go away, I can get into freezing water and it takes some time until my hands are even numb and it doesn't hurt too much. Then I will regain the feeling in my hands and feet pretty quickly. Comparing to the first year the difference is staggering. I mean the water is still cold and you still don't want to get in at first but it's much easier. And the summer comes so early I can go and chill at the lake in my swim suit in 20°C feeling nice and warm and I can swim in the lake when the water hits 18°C quite comfortably. It's amazing, trust me. It's unreal what the body can do

As a Super Cave Diver myself, I once again feel compelled to provide explication for the non-divers, and normal cave divers such as yourselves. I know what some of you will be thinking. His claim to have dove alone was for the purpose of precluding contradiction from another party. But nothing could be further from the case. While much is the same between the two endeavors, there's a significant amount of difference between super diving and the more pedestrian diving practiced by the non-elite. First, let me begin by saying that as someone who knows Donald personally, he's the fastest crawler I've sever seen. He loves to crawl, whether in or out of the water, and does it constantly. Floors, ceilings, from the windows to the walls. You name it he's crawled on it. He goes up trees like a bear. On more than one occasion when visiting his home, he would answer the door on all fours, and spend most of my visit rapidly scurrying about quadripedally. So if anyone could crawl from the bottom of a lake to the shore with limited air, it's SCD Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. It was also fortunate he dove without his wife in this instance. Because had she been present, it would have been her duty to put him down (perform a tactical drowning) once his air supply was compromised, and the world would now be without one of it's most skilled SCDs. Donald also failed to bring an extra cylinder on this dive. Something he does religiously, even keeping one by his tub for baths. But none of that natters now. because Daddy made it home. Donald also likes what most would consider an exceptionally warm climate. The man is human furnace. He drives everywhere with the heater on, takes scalding showers, drinks nigh boiling water, and eats smoking hot meals. It's not uncommon for him to be wearing a parka when visiting in the summer. Hence why he found the water colder than most. An idiosyncracy few if any share. What many would deem a comfortable temperature, Donald would find uncomfortably cold. Honestly, I didn't think you guys (being normie divers) would ever understand. But Gus's comments in your recent video about dry caving has caused me to reconsider. When Gus said, "Shoot you in the head and walk out is the only humane thing (to do)," in response to another caver being injured, he conveyed that he perhaps has the potential to become a SCD after all. The expression on Woody's face, however, did not. Anyway, let us know when you're ready to join the elite, Gus.

This is what he does; he has an obsession with trying to seem like a super duper cool guy who does dangerous shit and survives thanks to his superhuman abilities. The guy might be all heart in the cage which is why I've been a fan, but he's also absolutely full of shit. It sucks to say but as a diver I really dislike the guy. I've had two drysuit failures during ice diving (one catastrophic) in Nordic winter conditions, and the cold shock alone will make you forget about anything else. The catastrophic one literally nearly killed me, and even the minor one was a miserable experience, and probably the second worst dive I've had.

Our lecturer lept into action, opened a window, turn on the gas suction fans and evacuated every room and lab in the building! I discovered your channel less than a week ago and I'm totally binging on your videos. I have no experience in diving whatsoever, beyond just swimming underwater for as long as I can hold my breath, I didn't even know that cave diving was a different beast than scuba or that there are all these kinds of different diving styles, but I can tell quality content when I see it. Between your honest reactions and the way you've so effortlessly been explaining the various technical aspects of every different style - I call them styles for lack of a better term btw - between offering us tremendous insight and allowing us a glimpse on the methodology and science of diving you haven not only been inspirational but also you've been correcting my - I dare say "our", as a wider audience - distorted image of diving and you've also have been shedding some light on why and how things can go wrong, constantly reminding us of all the safety protocols that are in effect thus enabling divers to functions properly and, within reason, safely. You've been building trust to the diving community with your knowledge and honesty. I remember the watching a BBC documentary - which, I suggest you watch sometime if you happen to come across it and have the time, it's part of the BBC Two series "Natural World" and it's called "Secrets of the Maya Underworld" - about the discovery and exploration of the underwater cave system of Yucatan, in Mexico, when I saw for the first time people diving in underwater caverns and caves and my mind was blown not only by the wonderful scenery but also by the sheer feeling of terror and anxiety about all the things that could go wrong and lead to a horrible death. Now, after having watched a couple dozen of your videos I can still admire the effort and skill of cave divers - maybe even more than before - but fear is slowly turning to respect. This is something very different than what people are used to nowadays - at least what they are constantly bombarded with. Idols and personas with mostly style and little if any substance. Don't be discouraged by trolls or people that can't stand criticism against their idols. They are taking that criticism personally just by association - and that's quite pathetic, if you ask me. Anyway, keep up the good work spreading knowledge, honesty and trust and sorry for the long-@$$ comment. :)

I googled how quickly you get hypothermia in thirty degrees water and this is what I found, “A person who is immersed in near-freezing water at temperatures of 32.5°F/0.3°C will have symptoms of mild hypothermia in under 2 minutes and will be unconscious in less than 15 minutes, with an expected survival time of 15 to 45 minutes.” If his suite flooded with below freezing water how did he not pass out after fifteen minutes? He also definitely would have had hypothermia even if he managed to get to the shore in under fifteen minutes, so he would have needed to go to the hospital.

This is KZfaq no matter what you do someone's going to have an issue with it. This guy is obviously full of crap! I am kind of disappointed that Woody held back on what was really going on because he was afraid of hurting somebody else's feelings on KZfaq. Just be yourself and tell it as it is and who cares what anybody else thinks.

He forgot to mention his goggles leaking, lost a fin then the other fin and to top it all off his pants fell down. No worries I just threw a couple extra air tanks in the truck, that shut her up haha. Defo BS! great vid as always guys.

To be fair, Cerrone wasn't clear about whether the extra air tank in the truck was for this dive or the cave-diving one, or maybe another dive altogether.

As far as people criticizing Gus and Woody for their opinions and critique of Cerrone or ANYONE else...I feel I am uniquely qualified to address this. You have no basis in saying the guys feel like they are "elite" or better than anyone else. We met Gus and Woody (and Josh) in a non-formal setting. They were just setting up their gear and were EXTREMELY humble and asking questions of each other. The proof of their humility was in the answers they would give. There is not an ounce of arrogance in either of them as divers. Being someone who has been "Reacted To" and felt the wrath as well as the grace of this community, I would argue to the death with anyone who says these guys feel like they are better than anyone. If you feel that way, you obviously are not listening to their videos.

@@chriscoker7794 thank you Chris. The really are the most genuine of people. They are always pointing out the things they don’t know or the things they feel they need to practice. And I have to add that I don’t know many divers who would have gone out of their way to answer OUR questions and even stop preparing for their dive to let my son try on Gus’ rebreather. It was a very surreal moment for my son. They actually spent time with us. And to me, everyone’s time is valuable. It’s THE MOST valuable thing you can give someone. I can’t thank Gus and Woody enough!

This is just my opinion, but I don't think the weight of water in your dry suit would add much negative buoyancy overall because the extra water also increases your volume which displaces water and hence adds an equal amount of positive buoyancy. A drysuit is essentially a fancy plastic bag, and plastic bags filed with sea water don't plummet to the sea floor. You sink because you lost the air the suit was holding, not because the water is weighing you down. However the increased mass, inertia and drag of a flooded suit makes you very slow.

I think that this guy thinks it's cool that he puts himself into these situations (or at least pretends to get himself in them). I don't for a second believe that with no air, he crawled up a soft, silty embankment (hard work) over 30 ft to the surface. Sounds like barroom bragging to me. Even just listening to him, he sets off my BS meter big time.

I absolutely agree. His dumb bragging aside, the story is full of holes. The dive might have happened (in which case he's a moron for doing stupid risky stuff AGAIN, making me wonder if he's actually as certified as he says - the way he talks is what I'd expect from someone with a very superficial and limited understanding of some pretty basic scuba knowledge) but I strongly think what really happened was perhaps a leak that forced him to surface, or just poor gas management. Maybe there was a slightly leaky drysuit too - or the water temp was WAY warmer than what is being claimed. If you were in his claimed situation, would your first thought be to ditch the weights and inflate your BCD - or sit at the bottom staring at your gas pressure gauge, while your suit is filled with ice cold water, and then immediately fucking start crawling at a direction you hope is the shore? Oh and pick up your little treasure too. It's not like you'd be cold, right? And your claimed situation isn't life-threatening at all, so it's ok to waste the rest of your gas picking up your little treasure! It has to be a pretty long way to shore considering that the slope has to be very gentle if he's able to CRAWL his way to shore being weighted down so heavily. What kind of a superhero is he if he's able to not just do that, but do it with no gas and immersed in god damn icewater? It's giving me a massive headache this. Ps. Wouldn't a $1k worth of silver be like 1,5kg...?

Right? Normally people tell too many details in stories like this, not struggle to come up with enough to sound believable. "I reached into the silt and grabbed the thing." "Honey I got the thing!" What thing? Zero description of it. Almost like it didn't exist.

Gus and Woody, I've been sick with the flu this week and discovered your channel, and I can't stop watching! If I hadn't developed serious health issues a few years ago, I would love so much to learn to dive. I finished swimming lessons up to lifeguard level by age 7, and I finally was allowed to take those classes at 14. I also did competitive swimming and spent summer vacation at the beach snorkeling and sailing. For my 25th birthday, I went with my mom, sister, and a friend on the excursion of a lifetime to swim amongst beluga whales. I'm so sad that I can probably never dive, but I'm really enjoying your channel and living vicariously through your stories and videos. Best, Brandi 🐳
