I am 44 years old and currently have ~$3 million in my portfolio. I recommend doing a little research on why a high yield often means a failing business and includes higher risk. 3-4% yield seems to be the sweet spot today. Combine that with dividend growth around 8-10% and you're gonna be very happy after a short few years. This is a safe, effective long term strategy. I recommend adding some growth funds if you want to see some better growth. Having a true fiduciary on this journey can be invaluable!

Im actually glad its performance isnt the same as the sp because it doesn’t copy the top performers at the moment like most etfs do because it helps diversify your portfolio. I believe schd will outperform the market once they cut rates because they have more of the undervalued stocks in the market.

I also expect major y.o.y. jumps for Q3, Q4 and Q1-25 since this 24% increase is mainly due to the March reconstitution and not growth of its individual holdings. this makes up for last year's mediocre increase. Looking forward to lots of income from my 1777 shares this year.

I'm owning 700 shares of SCHD and was really surprised by the recent dividend being so high. I had expected something in the 0.66 to 0.68 range. Could this hike be due to the recent re-balancing of stocks in SCHD? Perhaps they just kicked out a couple of stocks with lower yields and replaced them with higher yielding ones?

Based in the holdings schd has like $CSCO, $ABBV, $CVX, $KO, $VZ, $PEP, $UPS, $BLK, a growth rate of 14% isn't sustaniable. It will more likely be around 5-8% long term based om the growth rates of the holdings. My guess is that this dividend hike is mainly due to the yearly reallocation which added more companies with higher yields, and excluded companies with lower yields

@wilinium
@wilinium Ай бұрын
@@hoangz24You are correct that holding growth only would eliminate taxes and lead to higher compounded growth rates. At some point you will likely want to retire. What if you retire in a down market like the 2008 Depression? VOO will have lost value and you'll be selling shares to pay bills. Do you want to sell shares in a down year or years? Many people came back out of retirement and others had to put off retirement for a few more years. VOO's divided isn't near enough for most to live off of. The video explains how no matter what the market is doing you'll have dividends rolling in with SCHD. With VOO you're just deferring to pay taxes at a later date and in down years your pretty much just well, down. You don't have to choose one strategy over the other either. Speaking from experience you can have a mix of VOO and SCHD with some growth in there too. Peace ✌️

DGRW > SCHD. Annualized 10Y total return: DGRW 12.50%, SCHD 10.99%. If you'd retired with $1M ten years ago, you'd have $411,000 more dollars today! $411K... this would be millions over the course of a 30-year+ retirement. SCHD's index rules exclude too many great companies with better earnings growth and higher quality balance sheets than its constituent holdings.
@unashamedly1776
@unashamedly1776 Ай бұрын
Apples to Oranges. DGRW is a div growth ETF vs a div equity in SCHD. If you're only looking at annualized returns, you may as well just get an S&P500 ETF like VOO, which beats DGRW's 10yr annualized return
@CalmerThanYouAre1
@CalmerThanYouAre1 Ай бұрын
@@unashamedly1776 there’s definitely a VERY good argument for just investing in the S&P 500 and going about your life. However, DGRW has nearly the same return as the S&P but with much less volatility and a much better max draw down. The risk adjusted return is better than the S&P, as evidenced by the higher Sharpe and Sortino ratios. And personally, I have a 70/30 mix of DGRW and QQQ/QGRW. That combo far outperforms the S&P, and with less volatility and better max draw downs. I would encourage everyone to look at the data themselves and perform their own back tests before jumping into either option. There’s no need to throw wealth away when you could just own the market and produce the same amount of income safely during both bull and bear market cycles.

So you have a crystal ball about what the index returns will be 10 years before retirement? You guys talk about growth like it's a given, it's not. And you love to ignore the total return of schd beating or matching that of SPY over most rolling periods since inception.
@Username18981

Yep, nothing wrong with that; that's why we have different approaches. I personally have both, and plan to sell out of voo and put mote into Schd later...it's not in a roth so will have to pay the taxes..also when th3 market is down on thoes growth stocks schd will still be paying it's dividend.
@andred.4664
@andred.4664 Ай бұрын
The problem with that is you are making an assumption on the future....I get it, 10 years before retirement represents a decent time window to start moving the money... But I prefer to have the dividends to reinvest on the holdings I choose while I am on this long path.
@richardthomas6054
@richardthomas6054 Ай бұрын
I dont believe that the market has ever taken more than 10 years to recover. So choose a date 10 years and then the first day a market high is reached switch them over. The market should produce more than 3% yield per year so it seems switching the money into a snowball before retirement seems like the most sound plan

@Dividendology have you thought about throwing in a yieldmax fund to increase velocity of your goal? I made $8800 in premiums for month of June. In a year that would be 100k+ by using 175k of buying power. I would need 3 million dollars in SCHD to get same result. If you put 25k into Amazy you would make 700-1000 a month and can place that premium into dividend stocks. Image how much faster you can achieve goals by having an extra $8500-12,000 a year to place into stocks of your choice

@Dividendology I think using an inflation rate of 2% is way too low. Average U.S. inflation over last 30 years was 2.35%. Rounding down to the number that makes the spreadsheet look better is never a good thing. I would over estimate a number like inflation rather than under. Over time this number matters. Also you aren't accounting for dividend tax rate in the video. When you combine those two metics, it will take longer than what you said in your video.
