"Mobile game" hurt my very soul 🤣 From the graphic I can certainly see why you'd think so, Divinity is actually one of the single most detailed RPGs out there. A single playthrough if you do maybe all the content can be perhaps 90 hours. Every character voiced, layers upon layers of intrigue and storytelling - it's one of the best games around and narratively phenominal. The music is some of my favourite that is our there, Larian knocked it out the park with the style - the reason this is labelled Cello version as well is due to something unique in this game (never seen it in any other), when starting the game you can choose one of I believe four instruments you prefer to be most promenant during the OST.
@shybandit521

Very close. What you actually pick is an instrument to fade in when that specific character gets a kill. Sometimes the game can become competitive with your friends, fighting to steal kills so your instrument can play!

Yup there are multiple version, in divinity there is actually a pretty unique choice in character creation and that choice is for an instrument, what this does is change themes and also play a little tune when you get like a kill or something, of the top of my head I can remember the choices being cello,flute, I think violin and one other(I always pick cello since it's my favourite one so I don't quite remember them all).

You are correct about the different versions. At character creation you get to pick out of 4 instruments and that one will be the main instrument for your combat music. the 4 instruments are Cello, Flute, Oud, Tambura.

The soundtrack was the first of many things that made me fall in love with this game. So subtly composed, such amazing instrumentation, so much character and love packed into it. And Borislav Slavov is refreshingly willing to rely on musical storytelling to sell dramatic moments, rather than just turning up the volume. A great example of this is the track "Battle for Divinity". The way it weaves all the leitmotifs you've heard throughout the first act into a single, seamless melody conveys resolve better than any musical fireworks he could have come up with.

Bobby was a good choice to take over the mantle from the late Kiril Pokrovsky. Despite having a different style he still captured the music feel from previous Divinity game. Them having some tributes in there was a nice touch too.

Ah Fort Joy. Such a happy place. To add to some comments here: the game's battle sequences really promote a lot of strategy and the battle music tends to match that feeling.

Divinity Original Sin 2 is an amazing CRPG where you play as either a "Create your own" character or one of the 6 pre-defined characters. One of the choices in the game is you choose an instrument, out of 4, for your character which changes how some of the music themes play like what you are hearing here and how a flourish plays out when your character kills an enemy. It's a very complicated game, and definitely not a mobile game, since a lot of attacks in combat have elemental or secondary effects that can interact with other elements or effects like you can cast Rain to cause a puddle, hit this puddle with fire to turn it into a steam cloud to block LoS of an enemy and then hit this cloud with lightning to turn it into a lightning cloud that will stun any enemy caught inside it. Also complicated because outside of combat you can do silly things like stack boxes to block LoS so you can steal with impunity or load a chest full of goodies and throw it at people to kill them. Anyway the music is almost all amazing with a lot of bangers and a lot of fun, light hearted songs such as the tavern fight song. I think that's the name, Tavern Fight.

I get the whole "prep phase" idea and I think it applies fairly well here. Divinity Original Sin 2 is an isometric (top-down or overhead view) turn-based RPG, almost similar to tabletop games like D&D. You spend a lot of time in battle carefully moving your party of characters around the map and choosing which skills to use or how to best use your turn. It's honestly one of the best RPG's out there but it requires a massive time investment. Someone in the comments said around 90 hours but I'm pretty sure I spent more than that and I never beat the game. Plus, it is fairly difficult and unless you're very knowledgeable about the game and/or genre, you're likely going to have people go down in battle fairly often.

cello and tambura are my go to selections for my characters. It's incredibly satisfying to hear the music shift based on your actions. I did co-op with a friend and the back and forth as we took our turns made it feel more dynamic in spite of long periods of deliberation. The moment you execute your plan and your selected instrument overtakes the music is pure satisfaction.

Yay, he played my video! =D I didn't compose the song, I didn't make the request, but I recorded almost all of DOS2's songs and uploaded them to youtube, because a large portion of its songs weren't made public. I'm glad Jesse liked the song. DOS2 would be a great game for him, with it's extensive soundtrack. I wonder how he would react to the tavern fight song. That's my favourite! =D

The music is the best part of this game. Fort Joy and Reaper's Coast are the best chapters/areas of the game, after that, the game drops in quality, and the difficulty is increased in a cheap way (you can invest levels in Initiative, so you can act before some enemies, but some bosses have scripted to act always before you, and this causes some glitches which sometimes cause you skip one or two turns in a row, and the enemies kill you or deal considerable damage or your buffs simply go away without you having used them. it's bad. But those first episodes and the music? Perfection!

Oh god the art DOES look like a mobile game. I'm so mad because you're completely right, I've never liked the artwork that advertised the game but I couldn't pinpoint why. Despite how that promo art looks. DoS2 is a proper video game. It's one of the most environmentally interactive CRPGs of all time, it's a fantastic evolution for old people that grew up with Isometic computer RPGs like Balder's Gate or Arcanum or something of that nature. It's absolutely fantastic, a great co-op experience also. I'd love to see what you'd think of the OST from Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, the entire thing is basically all Cello and Violin music with very little of anything else, yet somehow it's one of the most memorable video game OSTs of all time for me. The main theme in particular is great.

Divinity Players, which instrument were you? I'm an Oud man myself! The four theme instruments were actually a really subtle thing that I enjoyed tremendously while playing Divinity OSII in cooperative multiplayer, since when it switched between players during their turns, the battle themes would seamlessly swap their primary instruments to let you hear whose turn it was and it added a dynamic layer to all the songs that made them feel much more synchronized with the encounters!
@shybandit521

@@shybandit521 No what I mean is that as soon as it swaps to my turn the oud would pick up from the previous player's different instrument, and because we had a static group we all intentionally chose different instruments.
