Divulging the Eleusinian Mystery [Remastered Documentary]
The Eleusinia was an agrarian cult based out of an ancient temple site dedicated to the goddesses Demeter and Kore just northwest of Athens. While this cult survived the entire duration of Greco-Roman Antiquity, initiating hundreds of thousands, very little is known about it today on account of its highly secretive practices. This documentary attempts to shed some light on what exactly went on at Eleusis, and why the cult was so popular.
This video is based on a remastered version of an early 2010s audio-only lecture I recorded and posted here on KZfaq entitled “Unveiling the Eleusinian Mysteries.” This has proved one of the most popular videos on this channel over the years, so to celebrate the end of 2020, I’ve tried my best to clean up the shoddy audio from the original and provide some accompanying visuals. While there are a great number of things I would have said and done differently were I writing and recording this script today now that I am older and wiser (and especially given the rather outdated nature of a few of my claims), there’s still a good deal of relevant information contained herein and it’s well worth the watch.

The ´hallucinations’ was each initiate’s inner fears , inner demons coming out for them to acknowledge and overcome. Tormenting the initiate until it broke down the ego (ego death) .. in other words, it broke down all that is false in the person in order for them to « see » truth. Enlightenment. Without psychedelics, it would take humanity frigging forever before coming to reason and self realization. Like the world today 🙄

You can also find this in the Gardnerian and Alexandrian traditions of witchcraft. Today those would be the closest one gets to a mystery cult. With having initiations, secret and sacred names of the gods and goddesses used in the traditions. In the craft it is very similar to the rites and rituals of the ancient mysteries. You will also find it with things like Freemasonry, and mystical Kabbalah, and the Hermetic Order of the Golden dawn, which all took the “esoteric” traits of these cults.

So I was stoked to see this, as I've been reading The Immortality Key by Brian Muraresku. Last night I listened to the latest video on the Esoterica channel on Pythagoras and Parmenides, and the description of the Proem of Parmenides brings to mind what one might potentially experience when meeting the goddess at Eleusis. I'm a contemporary artist. Still to this day, I feel terribly sad that I went through my university art education without any initiation. Without surprise, I find my work community, art institution, and college working a very dry and logical art. Hopefully there was a psychedelic festival that did the job but it wasn't meant that way. I feel that meaning, conscious and benevolent willing action to go through the gate would deploy artistic capabilities and moreover resort the seer function we are natural too.

Apparently the island of Samothrace was also home to a well known Hellenistic mystery cult attended by some famous figures (Herodotus being one). If anyone knows the "Winged Victory" statue at the Louvre, it was actually excavated from the the site of these rites. From what I've read it seems like Demeter and Persephone might have been worshiped there as well, but there's some conflicting evidence of other deities ascribed to it. Might be a result of all this religious syncretism Dan discussed. If you can ever visit the island, it's a place that still has a mystical (and psychedelic) reputation today.

It's true, the Samothracian Mysteries, which I always assumed was very similar in content to Eleusis. I always did wonder how that statue fit into everything. Funny how so much of our modern conception of angels comes from Hellenism rather than the wheeled and many eyed ophanim of Judaism.

@@TheModernHermeticist It is EXTREMELY well researched and sheds an entirely new light on the true extent and expanse of the practice of the mysteries outside of Eleusis and raises questions regarding possible "missionary" type spreading of initiation into The Mysteries far beyond the Mediterranean. @@TheModernHermeticist I thought so too, because I am very familiar with the material. But Muraresku ties it together in a way that is a genuine advance in the field. The research is up to the minute, because it appears that the gatekeepers [The Vatican, The Louvre] believe the popular culture is now post-Christian enough to receive information they have been sitting on for generations. They are releasing a lot of what they have now. I listened to it as an audio book that the author narrated. Your documentary is focused on Eleusis alone, unlike Brian's book. Amazing summary of mystery religions. I find it all an inspiration for Christianity, Hermeticism, and Freemasonry. Given that the mystery initiations were purification rituals and initiates sought salvation through them, since knowledge was viewed as sin. Sacrifices were made because the gods were angry at the knowledge man acquired such as farming and technology seen as deviation from natural law, given by other god/s Mithraic in nature, and so Famines and storms were seen as manifestations of their wrath. To appease the Gods, sacrifices of cattle and humans were made to ensure good harvests. However if a god associated with knowledge was sacrificed, then that could be considered a permanent sacrifice that ensured permanent salvation to initiates who underwent the same trials as those gods in purification, initiation rituals. Christianity amended these mystery rites by making the entire life of the only begotten Son of the almighty God live a life a lifelong initiation ritual for all mankind and salvation was then reduced to merely believing in that Son of God and then initiation is reduced to a mere baptism of water. And anyone can do it.

22:50 Good insight, universalism is the twin of individualism as they have a similar isolating effect. Naturally there isn't a universal bird that flocks together but instead many types of birds surviving within their own systems that may interconnect. It is against nature and Borg-like to assimilate everyone into a universal collective (see New Jerusalem cube). 🕋 Speculating, but it seems to me that these mystery schools also branched into global religions or types of universalist thought (aka Marxism) and then conquered diverse peoples by pulling them out of their ethnic faiths. If the etymology of Catholicism means universal or 'the whole', than we can see why it would wish to convert or eliminate the pagans which was ethnic (part of the definition in older dictionaries). So even the word nation comes from a biological grouping or 'natal' = of or relating to birth. The word gentile is derived from the Latin gens or gentilis (same ancestor, genes, geneology). Maybe mystery schools were a kind of parasitic mind control recipe & networking to conquer the Earth. "For the Lord your God will bless you, as he promised you, and you shall LEND TO many nations, but you shall not borrow, and you shall RULE OVER many nations, but they shall not rule over you." - Deuteronomy 15:6

My take. The process of embedding is that old putting a bit of the old away to have it ready for the new. I think where ever this was done, the moldy ergot on rye or barley or any grain was used as a ritualistic symbol of time, and the hallucinogens were a simultaneous and not computed factor, back to our pre-human evolution.. In Salem, it was an accident. Same result in a conservative pilgrim Christian setting = The Devil.

Going down into Hades to have another part of your life on the other side. Very similar to how the Egyptians prepared for their journey thru the Underworld in order to have another part of their life on the other side. This reminds me of phrases like "gotta go with the flow" and "take a leap of faith". Isn't there another that goes something like, "you gotta go thru Hell to get to Heaven*"? If there is then that would probably sum up the message best. * from my understanding, Heaven is a "realm" called the Empyrean. This realm is above all the others and it is where only our true Spirit bodies can go. From this realm a Spirit can walk from one place like this to another and be allowed in only once the Spirit's frequency is strong enough to handle the frequency of the galaxy's plane of Inertia you're wanting to go into. The higher up the frequency "chart" the Spirit is, the earlier into that places creation the Spirit can handle being in. The earlier the Spirit can come in, the more it can remain itself and less like how the Spirit does things with these hard light bodies of ours now and days. The frequencies collected would be vibrantly stronger and more pure, with less impure background frequencies like what we have flooding through our cities now and days to block them. I'm gonna stop there before I start getting long winded. Any one still reading, if you're interested and have a "why such and such?" then I'd be happy to go into this further.

@Gavin D I have a couple times in a few different ways. In the Empyrean, which was like a waking dream, I as Jake Letzler the soul (resonance retriever) hadn't been born yet. I was re-living what my Spirit Light Body had seen and heard on it's way to and at the place in that realm where the Spirit can enter into Earth, all the way up to jumping into the massive whirlpool leading down into here. Another time, I was very young and naive yet I used to be able to fly to normally unreachable dreamscapes. This ONE time I ended up in a white hallway with a window looking in to the realm I wanted to go into. This white bearded old man came in and wanted to teach me how to get back there but I was too in a hurry to get passed that window, which I eventually did. That realm I went into was like embryonic fluid but once I let it fill my lungs I could swim onward just fine. So much happened but it takes a long time to write...and read. The reason I give these two times so much validity is because during both occasions, even though there's nearly 34 years between the two and one was a sleeping dream while the other happened while awake, there was a 30+ something female and a 15+ male counterpart. And the female is the one "in charge" at both places. In both their cases I believe the pairs both started out as one androgynous being. It's as if they portray themselves in whatever forms/state of mass "OuR" bodies are currently in. Not because they want to but because they are tied to us for as long as we're here, and have to represent us in body styles and this splitting off genders whether they like it or not. In both cases however, both pairs seemed about as high up the workforce chain for this amusement park we call the Earth as "a" Being(s) can get. Perception is key in this place. Which is why it's been thrown all out of wack. Iv'e found a pretty easy way to think about how this place called Earth works in the ways that are not seen. The AUM is the Galaxy's point source sound resonance. As this sound progresses outward it develops it's octaves. These octaves are then themselves dimensions. When we are awake we experience all these different dimensional octaves at the same time, which creates our shared reality. But when we dream I think we can travel into them individually, but only if we can sense/"hear" them. If we cannot for some reason sense/hear a certain sound or octave of such then we'd never know there is such a place to go to, and if you did you still wouldn't be able to locate the place. In the place you want to get back to, try to remember it's sound. Mimic whatever that sound may be whether a buzzing, static, crystal, chime, etc. If you can hum it or duplicate it with something before you go to bed then your body will eventually "fall into tune" with it and you then may very well just suddenly find yourself where you're wanting to be as you dream without even ever having to waste time getting there. (all is AtUM, all is a-tune, but the Creator of ALL is atom...meaning that particular God works with the first two all"s... point source and octave's of point source). Sound, vibration, frequency = energy-(or loss of), pressure and matter. (For it to come into existence it must first be "spoken", so to speak) One last hail-mary would be if you're coherent enough while dreaming, chose to walk away from it. Whatever is going on in that dream, walk straight away from that spot while thinking about the place you want to end up at. After walking for about 200 feet or so you should find yourself walking thru an invisible "doorway/portal" right into another place. Hopefully the place you want to be at. LoL, I took a lot of shortcuts to try to keep this message short but I have a feeling you're far enough along to understand much of what I wrote. As you can see I don't have a problem spending time talking like this so if there's ever anything you would like me to further add into, just let me know. Good luck.

@Gavin D , that place you describe sounds like the mid Heaven type place that is first talked about in an old story called The Divine Comedy (Dante's Inferno) written by Dante Alighieri. The story is about a living man guided thru "Hell" by an Angel in order get to the Impyrean above. (Go down to get up). Basically the journey takes place within the toroidal field of this place. The same one my Spirit jumped into so I could be here for awhile.. They start here on Earth by going down the hourglass center of it where they meet people whom had died on Earth, now living in a place most would consider as Heaven in that vast "bit" of counterspace. After that they keep treking downward thru the different levels of Hell then climb up around the outside of the toroidal hourglass section they had originally come in thru the center of, until reaching the Empyrean. Please understand that when I had my waking vision there, I had never once heard of that place until a few month's later. Yet I saw it very much how it is described to be by the Ancients. I hope you can quickly find yourself at that place you want to be at again. A year and a half ago, were you watching a specific show before bed? Was there a specific song you listened to a lot back then? Sometimes those things can make you resonate at specific frequencies before you fall asleep. The last thing would be, if you've moved to a different spot of the world since it stopped...but I think the area would have less to do with it than your body's frequency before bed does.

If you're educated on the occult then you can extrapolate what the point was. The Eleusinian mysteries were rituals designed to inspire a certain psychedelic experience that would reinforce an early Gnostic ideology within the pagan world. Persephone would serve as what would become the Gnostic character of Sophia. They were teaching initiates that our reality is a dream or more accurately to their eye... a nightmare, born of Persephone's need to distract herself from the suffering of her time with her captor husband hades who would become the Gnostic character of the Demiurge. This is an ideological system designed to make an individual deny a shared reality of any kind and therefore "free" themselves from any moral constraints so they may do whatever is necessary to increase their wealth and power in service of distracting themselves from their own suffering until the freedom of death takes them. Their gnosis would then carry them through their successive rejection of any "false" offers of a good afterlife the gods or the demiurge may offer them so they return to the blissful, black, nothingness that is as they would teach you, your "true self". The uniting of Persephone and Demeter is to state that we are all projections of Persephone and therefore Persephone herself in the sense that we are in a state where we do not yet know how to escape our prison, making the goal of this world to learn this truth and escape to rejoin the gods in paradise. The pantheon of pagan gods, which originally would serve as symbols for the parts of the collective human psyche would eventually become the amalgamated gnostic concept of the Monad. Its all just to put a sense of symbolic character over "nothingness" itself which is what the goddess refers to in occult circles today. The point of the teaching is that existence itself is a mistake of the collective self and this world only exists as a net for the impulse to create and salvation comes through electing to return to nothingness in death where suffering and consequence can never come to be experienced again. If you are of a Christian sentiment this should be looked at as an ideology of the devil. Eastern teachings have similar views and often include elements of enlightened figures returning to creation to help free beings of what is referred to in Kabballah as fragments of the Godsoul. These varying perspectives also tend to agree that the "experience" of eternal nothingness is an infinite orgasm and to introduce any context, setting or narrative to eternity is to introduce suffering and therefore to commit error.

Mr Modern Hermeticist, did you ever play videogames in your youth? I always wondered if the whole "Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time" was also some sort of initiation into some sort of mystery cult. The little figures show you their tokens, at some point you get into the "chamber of sages" and the "sacred realm". These videogames (from that time especially) seem to have been highly influneced by certain freemason groups. If we go by the procedure set you listed "The things that are said" "the things that are shown" The things you're doing" then videogames are what will now replace the education that mysteries as the on of Eleusis contained. Would you agree?

Corn was the common term for any grain in those days. Think Barley or Barleycorn. The term was later applied to what we now associate as the corn (maize) introduced much later into Europe and the Middle East. The Bible also mentioned ears of corn, but they were referring to a local grain, again most probably barley. The term "corn" was used by English translators of ancient texts, and is not to be confused with the original Greek word for the particular grain type.
