On Monday, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a milestone with the successful maiden flight test of the Agni-5 missile, featuring the indigenous Multiple Independently Targetable Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology.
Named 'Mission Divyastra', the test was conducted from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island (formerly known as Wheeler Island) in Odisha. With a reach extending to 5000 km, Agni-5 is India’s sole contender for the long-range Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) category.
Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicles (MIRVs) are integral to its design. It features several re-entry vehicles, each capable of carrying 2-10 nuclear warheads.
These warheads offer the flexibility to be designated for diverse targets spread across hundreds of kilometers or directed collectively towards a single location.
Speaking about the significance of this test and the road ahead, Dr Avinash Chander, former DRDO head and distinguished missile scientist, said India now has a robust eco-system that has developed many indigenous capabilities because of continuing denial of technologies by advanced nations. He was speaking to Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale.

should ask him why DRDO and DARPA (US) were founded the same time but look where DRDO is and where DARPA is, much of DRDO is full of useless admin employees taking salaries doing nothing, kick em out, leave admin duties to govt and employ only scientists, outsource the non essential to other govt dept

What's the big deal here? DRDO must have borrowed this function from ISRO which send multiple satellites on a regular basis.
@chandigarhspotter2345

So you think launching 104 satellites and launching an ICBM with MIRV capability are the same thing?? RIP to your knowledge 😴
@sirius4044
@sirius4044 3 ай бұрын
@@chandigarhspotter2345 the function is essentially same. Deploying satellites into multiple orbits within a single rocket is mostly similar to the MIRV capability on a ballistic missile. What knowledge are you talking about? It is just common sense that whatever India achieved military capability has been borrowed from ISRO's expertise.
@chandigarhspotter2345
@chandigarhspotter2345 3 ай бұрын
@@sirius4044 you don't have to hide a satellite launch from your adversary...but in case of an ICBM it is totally opposite,that too with the complexity of deploying multiple warheads with precision....yes the propulsion system and booster stage of ISRO rockets and AGNI missiles might be same...but no way you can borrow know how of missile technology from a space program.

Satellite launch Vehicle has very big size so you can put multiple satellite in it but ballastic missile has small size compared to satellite launch vehicle hence challenge is to miniturize warhead to small size that missile can vary multiple warhead and drdo achieved this miniturization plus agni5 mirv has composite stag which isro gslv doesn't.
