When they took the Confederate Battle Flag off the SC State House Grounds in 2015, it put me in a really down mood. I came to KZfaq looking for something to cheer me up and remind me of better times, and this video was the one that did it. I love this version of Dixie, and the happy crowd makes such a big difference.

Without a national currency before the war, local banks issued their own. The most common bill in the South was a Bank Of New Orleans $10. Louisiana being a recent French town, the bill had the value in both English and French. That was Ten and Dix on the reverse. The bills became known as Dixies. Hence the South became Dixie's Land. The Bank of New Orleans boasted they could finance the war alone.
