Every time I hear this song. I get teary eyed. I LOVE THE SOUTH. INSERT REBEL YELL HERE.

There is no need for boycotts, no need for confrontation, no need for petitions. All that is required are a few courageous band members, including alumni band members, Ole Miss supporters who can play an instrument, and any other musician with a backbone to gather together, and play "Dixie" on or adjacent to campus. Do it either well-planned in advance, or as a "flash mob band", but do it right and do it often and do it with pride.

Don't ever let the elites shame you about your culture and beautiful flag! God Bless Dixie.

I still get tears in my eyes ..when Dixie is played ..tears of pride ..as a Creole of color from the Gulf coast of Louisiana . family had been sugar.and cotton growers and brokers ...I'm proud to be an old Southerner..one of my daughters middle name is Dixie ..God Bless Louisiana and every inch of Dixie .. Three hundred years of Southern Pride..first ancestors settled California in the 1600s..and New Orleans in the early 1700s..French -Spanish and original Western Saharan ..Black Berbers ancestry ..Dixie is not a color ..it's a people and land ..the best on Earth..

I'm a northerner, but now live in ATL. I am against racism and all hateful behavior. However, I think it is absolutely crazy that Ole Miss cannot play this march in public anymore. The song is not racist, it was written BEFORE the Civil War. The problem is that liberals tell everyone that a song, a picture, a word, etc.....is equivalent to racism. It's just absurd. At the University of North Dakota, we had to give up our Mascot (Fighting Sioux) even though both Indian reservations voted 75% to 25% to keep the name with the school. It is just crazy how so few people can cause so much grief for the majority. I love Dixie, it has always been one of my favorites. Keep playing it Ole Miss.......

This was Abe Lincoln's favorite song and he ordered the Marine Corps Band to play it when he heard Lee surrendered. It's not just apart of Southern history but American history, it's a beautiful song and shouldn't be forgotten.

I am a student at Ole Miss and it really is a damn shame that we can't play this anymore! The song itself is not hateful. It's part of mine and many other's history and we should be allowed to be proud of it! I understand the flag to a point but to take away dixie from us is not right. There is a way to have full equality and still play this beautiful song!

I still come back and watch this video from time to time. Best college fight song of all time. It’s a shame they don’t play it anymore. Dixie and Battle Hymn of the Republic are beautiful songs.

During the 80s the Iowa marching band played this combination of Dixie/Battle Hymn of the Republic. It is beautiful and honors all of the young men who have fought for our country. Dixie is a beautiful song (Lincoln's favorite) and should be pllalyed whenever they want to play it.

While visiting Ole Miss campus on a spring weekday last year, I could hear church bells playing Dixie. It was so peaceful and beautiful hearing these notes floating among the trees.

I wish students would boycott the band until they bring back Dixie. No Dixie, No Band!

I'm an Auburn man myself, but it's bullshit Ole Miss had to change their name & mascot. Even though UNLV is called the rebels & the mascot looks like a Confederate colonel but the NCAA ain't got a problem with that. Goddamn bless PC America.

When Pres. Abraham Lincoln received news that the Civil War (April9, 1865) had ended. He asked the band to play "Dixie." He also lost a Brother in Law to the War (fought for the South).

I feel this song is one that people from all races, colors and creeds can rally around as a tribute to their native south.

If I'm hearing it right, this mixes Dixie with the north's Battle Hymn of the Republic very well, ending with notes from the Battle Hymn. There's a lot of meaning in this song.

Gives me chills! It is a beautiful song. Wish the South wasn't the only one losing what means so much to them. It is not about race , it is a song! When I heard this song every night when it was the closing song of the radio stations, race did not occur to me. I am so sorry it makes so many so angry. Southerners have to put up with many things we don't care for either, but we do it gracefully. To the one who commented about Old South archive: Are there many Southern archives left? It seems to me that many would like to erase the Old South completely. This use to be a free country with freedom of speech. Sorry we are losing that. I certainly feel we are censored constantly in many areas. I don't like it one bit.

I was born in 1953 and this song means nothing to me politically...I am not a racist by any stretch....I just LOVE the song... My first college game my Dad took me to was the Bluebonnet Bowl with TEXAS against Ole Miss....had to be 40 years ago and I still remember every single rebel flag and the playing of DIXIE....really impressive.... Taking your song away from you would be like someone telling us to stop playing the EYES OF TEXAS because it was to the tune of 'I've been working on the railroad'.....we would be LOST from that point forward..... Hopefully, ONE DAY people will realize how ludicrous it is.... CONGRATULATIONS on BEATING BAMA!!!

Dixie isn't about hatred!Just because some people with pointed hats run around and preach hate doesn't mean they represent all of Dixie.The South is a culture in which white and black share. Dixie is about good values, common cultural beliefs, common foods, ancestral roots, etc. White, Black, etc. can and do share all of these. Let me say now I am a proud Southerner and I love anyone if they are a good person, whether they are white, black, Latin American, etc. Every race has good and bad people

I was at the Liberty Bowl, watching Memphis State vs Mississipi football game in 1987 (if I was not mistaken). MSU won 16-10. But the most memorable moments was the frantic ending to the game, with the Rebels throwing everything at the Tigers. Both set of marching bands played non stop towards the end...Go Tigers Go against Dixieland. Really admire how Dixieland was played that night. (Btw, I went to MSU)

Not only "dixie" but the band also played "battle hymn of the republic" which was a union song written by an abolitionist. Its hard to stay united, hard to keep traditons these days but worth fighting for back then and now.
