You should charge it a little more than he did. The frost is a sign of some but not enough charge. The frost could also ice coils completely and then the cold air can't get through. Be good tutorial!
@JodBronson
@JodBronson 6 жыл бұрын
+Tim Braun - You are right! I got scared when I saw the frost on the line.... But it's still working today, I just put it in today lol..., and it's almost 3 years. During the time of me refilling it, I was inexperience and when I saw the " frost " I got scared so I stop. But it should have went to the " Blue Zone " on the gauge.

Jordan: Thanks for taking the time to do this. Those experts who say why it should not be done your way are experts because they are in the business. That means they depend on people coming to them and paying them big bucks. I have two window air conditioners that just stopped cooling enough. For interest I contacted local professionals for a quote to refill. I was told to throw them away, the cost would be more than buying a new one. Throwing easily fixable, expensive items away is immoral. As you correctly point out, if your recharge only works for a year or two you just give it another shot of coolant. I have bought two bullet valves and will use your approach. Your kind review means I can do the job with a measure of reassurance. Thanks again.

I've done a couple R22 to R134a conversions - mainly to play with them and see what will happen. So far, not much exciting. Sure, might have lost a little efficiency, but I wanted cold air and wasn't willing to wait until the week to get a cheaper rate for an HVAC guy to come out ( here, they charge more on weekends.. ). R290 ( Propane ) would have been a better choice for replacing 22, but some people get scared of the idea of a flammable substance at high pressure circulating around in their AC. (( Also, make sure you mark the system as to what's in it, so the next guy working on it don't get a nasty surprise )). I do refrigeration work for a hobby, it's fun to experiment and see what works and what don't.

Jordon Bronson Nice Job!! 14 teen when you did this! You did what probably 100% of the pro’s would say can’t be done and they say that because their book didn’t teach them it could be! I love it when people think outside the box, problem is so few do these days. Keep thinking outside the box and you’ll go places.

Hi Ted, THANK YOU for the positive comment. Each day I get so many attacks and you can see some below and some on my other Videos. I used to delete them, but I saved some for People to laugh at. You are 100% correct about thinking out of the box! I always try and always will. Funny though, I have had many failures.... But because of those, I get to grow and learn more. Most People are afraid of "failures", but little as they know... It's those failure(s) are the one that is most successful! Please check out some of my "other" videos, you might learn something from it. After all, I am just posting things that I've learned through time and share with others. THANK YOU AGAIN!

Jordan I’m a guy that’s designed, built or repaired more equipment then most men have even seen. If I would have been told yesterday morning that I was going to learn something from a 14 year old I would have had a good laugh. Having just replaced the window air in my wood shop because I had always heard they could not be repaired. Years ago I would have tried repairing it. You showed me that I’d fallen into the trap of just excepting things for how someone else said they are. I won’t let that happen again. I’m now a subscriber to your channel and who knows maybe I will learn something else from you. Thank you Jordon for the slap in the face I was needing, now I’m going to go pull the old window air out of my junk pile and see if I can bring it back from the dead.

@@dontfit6380 - Maybe be you grew up differently than I am. Maybe I am just curious and maybe I just wanted to learn earlier than you did. My Dad is the same way, he thinks things are what it is, is what it is. Trust me, I fight with him everyday for that and still do. Recently, I had to fix a "huge" rust hole on the side of his Car. It was up to a point that there was no way unless you weld a new piece of metal to it. He bought me a Welder 2+ years ago... It's still in the Box because I haven't got a chance to play with it yet. YUP, 2+ years, LOL. Anyway, I did try, but I think because of the Power Outlet is not strong enough, nothing stick. So I ended up suggesting make a Bracket and then pour "Cement" in there so the Bracket had something to hold onto. We did do a bracket without and just a thin wall... It kinda "caved" in a bit and he was afraid of driving it because it's not secure with thin walls. So we ending up go to home depot and got a bag of cement... I shift the Rocks out and just use the Cement.... To my surprised, the Cement made the Walls and the bracket a lot stronger and now it's even quieter. It's so good that the wheel is a lot quieter. But during this time, my Dad and I fought for almost all day. Old Man verse Hard Head... LOL.

Jordan Bronson Oh you misunderstood me. I’m probably older then your dad. I grew up on a farm and have been turning wrenches since I was able to hold one. Build my first drag racing car at 16 and was the head mechanic at a Manufactuing plant by the time I was 19. I have always thought outside the box and did what others wouldn’t or couldn’t do. What you showed me in you video was that somewhere over the years I started acting like the so called pro’s and no longer was being creative in my thinking. Thank you for showing me that! As for you fighting with you dad. If two people agree on everything there is no reason for one of them too be there. Your lucky to have a dad that will do stuff like that with you.

Although I will watch them all, your consolidation of the highlights is very helpful! I may need to do this with my portable R-410a system. But I believe my issue is a bad capacitor. As I await the delivery of the new part, I'm doing further research just in case. Btw, your opening is absolutely hilarious and real! Only a self-righteous elitist would interpret it within the context of race. You gained a new sub!

Get the Meter Gauge and the Valve Port like in the video, you can test how healthy your AC is without refilling it or know when to refill it. Very easy..... Once you hook it up, you can tell how much "Gas" is in there by the Compression on the Gauge Meter. As for.... "your opening is absolutely hilarious and real!"

+Paul Kimble - There was about 4-6 psig left in the line under compression and you can see that in the Video. There was no point for me for remove the previous Gas. Under normal operation, the compression should be under 40 psig for R134a, as I recall from one of the guy here who made the comment suggestions. I actually took some Gas out this weekend to match the specs and it's doing fine. Still cold after 3 Seasons of usage. :))))))))))))

+JR BORIQUA7 - Thankx! Good question! If you pause the Video at 0:08. You will see there is a " CUT " and kinda " WELDED " back together Pipe. That is where I knew that is it must be a " FILLING " line at the factory. To make it faster and cheaper, they added that on so they can easily filled and then sealed.

When you hold ac can upwards it comes out as a gas and if you turn it upside down it comes out as a liquid compressors don't like straight liquid it causes sludge which can damage the compressor and valves and wash away refrigerant oil you should rotate from 12 to 3 position and shaking can periodically the lines should not turn to frost and ice that's a bad thing it's getting too much liquid freon too fast I worked on air conditioners on a U.S NAVY SHIP!

Judging by the older style copper accumulator, I'd say it is R22 which is probably why nothing went horribly wrong such as the can blowing up in his hand from back flow lol. Also probably new enough to be filled with POE rather than mineral oil, so he just might get away with this as long as it doesn't get disastrously over filled lol.

+alcharlescap - Here is my recommendations: DO A TEST FIRST :D 1. Put in your Valve. 2. Peirce your Hole, Check for Leak Test. 3. Put your Gauge Valve Meter on " TIGHT ". 4. Leave it 1 Day or 24+ Hours, hooked up, so you can see if you lose compression. 5. If " NO ", then filled it according to your Gauge Valve Meter. TIPS: Don't over-filled it, you can always add some more later :))))

i just thought of something the bullet valve is 8 bucks the factory fill pipe at 9:46 instead of placing valve where you have it use the factory fill area or you can even extend it then place bullet vale in that factory t area , then when finished use a vice grip to flatten pipe around a 1/2 in folded over then solder the end tip bent up vertical so heat rises but cool the rest of pipe with a wet rag then reclaim your bullet valve and no doe loss
