In this video, I walk you through my entire experience of borrowing and using a jackhammer for the very first time. I test out a 35 LBS Bauer Jackhammer from Harbor Freight and the results had me in shock.

A backhoe would do the whole job in 4 hours . The time you save and the physical work would worth the cost . Usually they charge 75 dollars/hour plus a fee for taking it to your place.

You should have rented a skidsteer with a auguer attached could have finished in just a few hours

Next time, I’d get a skid steer with a hammer attachment for sure. But I don’t regret it. I learned a lot by going that slow. 🙏👍

Man, that soil sucks! The amount of effort to get those footings done. I feel your struggle! I would tell you that it gets easier after the foundation but it doesn’t really 😂

@@darryldarks what kind of temperature are you getting during the day over there ?

@@TheDIYCabinGuy Oh gosh. It’s around 95 degrees for the majority of the day but it’s gotten to like 105 or 106 before. I don’t show it the video the but I have about 2-3 gallons of water with me at all times.

I have a question I thought once you hit rock you don’t have to dig further . I thought that was the Goal when digging to do post and beams

Great question. Well, most codes want you to dig down to 12 inches for a foundation. Most home builders do 12 inches down and 12 inches up for a slab foundation. So, a total of 24 inches deep in beams parts of the slab. I ended up going with 24 inches down and 18 or 24 inches up. So, 48 inches of concrete in some places. I just liked the amount of strength the footing would have. Hope that helps! 🙏👍
