When I used to work as a structural engineer in Houston, typically , the bottom of footings would be at least 2’-6” below grade. I hope you got some valuable info from the engineers you’ve contacted. That soil seems to be a pain to dig through!

I didn't realize you worked in Houston. You have a good amount of experience. Yeah, I remember watching your video when you dug your footings and it at least seemed really easy to dig. haha. The soil types throughout Texas vary so much it's crazy. The next video goes into more depth on my conversation with the engineers and I definitely learned a lot.

I’m in Houston and I don’t have a lot of rock on my land but we have a lot of roots !!! 😭

Most people would recommend that you dig down at least 12 inches. You want to go to undisturbed soil. Houston is a little tricky. Basically, you have to either study the soil type on your lot and what it can bare and compare that to what other local builders do or hire someone.

What did you do for blueprints? I dont want to spend thousands on an engineer/architect. lol. Im sure you didn't want to either! Did you find a better way? Is there a software or something? What did you do?

Get the proper machinery for digging large rocks maybe in the ground. Your foundation engineering has your footing depth in the details. Get some help so you don't get a injury and exhausted that will cause health problems.
