I really appreciate your work, if you feel like it you should try finding clay near to where you live, make things with it and fire it. It gives a special kind of feeling when you made something with the materials of where you live. Especially if it’s something usable like this lamp.

Your voice reminds me of my Uncle Gunnar. ❤ Thanks for teaching to make these lamps. Can these lamps be fired in a kiln? I'm asking because another video on making clay lamps said that after a while the oil starts to weep out of the lamp. It seems like firing it would fix the weeping.

Glad if I have inspired you Cliff 😉👍🏻🔥 but what did you use as fuel? Tom
@Cliff82
@Cliff82 4 ай бұрын
@@diycimbrer Crisco brand lard is what I use as the fuel source and a piece of burlap for the wick. I haven't experimented with any other fuel sources yet, but I plan too. Let me know if you have any alternative fuel ideas that might burn cleaner please. If I find one I will be sure to let you in on the secret. Thank you

I think maybe I would try cutting a circle in the bottom the diameter of the wick post and set it in and smooth on bottom of pot and on the inside. Perhaps it would be more integrated into the pot.

Hello. I bought one of these recently at a Viking festival and the guy said we can use cooking oil. Do you have a video on that? As I don’t know if we have put to much in as the flame is quite high, but also we didn’t ask how to put it out, is there a safe way to do this?
@diycimbrer
@diycimbrer 4 ай бұрын
I guess it’s fine using cooking oil 😉👍🏻 but you have to cut the wick so it’s smaller 🔥 and a safe way to put it out is to put a metal pot over it and it’ll die 😁🏕 Hope this helps 🌲Tom

Great project. Been on my to do list for a while. And great to the see archaological source. Why did you make your replica so much bigger than the original? I am curious to hear the reason why. Maybe to get more burn time?
@diycimbrer
@diycimbrer Жыл бұрын
Honestly 😇 I didn’t check the measurements before I started … but I got about half a litre of lard and made them so it could contain that. But I also wanted the lamps to burn all night 😁👍🏻🔥 and it was a perfect size for that 🌲 Thanks for your feedback and for watching me DIY videos. 🏕🔥🌲🐕 Tom 🇩🇰
