A few years ago at a rocket launch one guy had a V2 replica. It was about five feet long. It looked like he had put a lot of work to it. It flew beautifully but in the end it did exactly what the V2 was designed to do and nose dived into the ground. Total loss. Turns out the ejection charge did go off but was waaaay under powered for the large internal space of the rocket.

Cool build bud! It looks to me like you never sanded and cleaned the bonding areas for the fins, or did you? If not, try next time to sand both bonding areas (fins and tube) with 80 grit and clean with acetone really really well. @Projectair Awesome work mate and love the passion you display on the videos. Whilst watching the video, it appears that once the vehicle lost its top guide in relation to the launch rail it immediately veered. Maybe next time you launch that particular vehicle, use an additional length of rail (2M to 3M) just to provide an additional split second of guidance to gain trajectory control. Have you also done any further research into a synchronised multiple engine launch? The vehicle core appears to be large enough to take a triple engine. 🤔

Great video ! Glad to see your rockets flying ! You might consider sanding the area you're going to glue, with 200grit sandpaper. Furthermore, a real fillet at the base of the fins would have certainly increase their strength. Finally, a more powerful motor should be used for such a big rocket, indeed, it needs speed to be stable, and that was almost not the case. Hey James, a quick thought about the tracker. Yes, they are big but that doesn't need to be the case. Off the top of my head, you could check the things network in your area and see how well it's covered. If it is, pick up an ESP32 with lorawan on board and a 6M GPS module and have it transmit data at certain interval to the things network. If you pick up one of the more standard ESP's, you're looking at around 15 grams. There's an ESP32 with a camera and micro SD card which will be an additional 5 grams. I can give a hand if you need(albeit virtually).

Have you thought about attaching a bunch of small lengths of string to the outside of your rockets? Just one end should be attached so the length of the string can give you a good idea as how the air passes over the rocket body (if you have the cameras in the right positions). You can also make those stabilizer fins more aerodynamic too by playing around with different shapes on the leading and trailing edges and by flipping them upside down (the longest part of the fin won't be glued to the rocket but the opposite edge will).

Very nice! Have you considered 3D printing a fin can for your rocket? You just need to figure out a way to attach it to the rocket. And then attach the fins you have to the fin can. Keeps everything aligned. Or if you wanna get creative and try spin stabilization, assuming the carbon tube is perfectly round and balanced, 3D print where the fins are held at a slight angle.

Hello, I just wanted to ask you a question. Which rocket engine type should I use if I'm new in the rocketry industry? I'm a young boy that loves space and engineering, and I've always enjoyed seeing space videos and things related to that. Recently, I decided to start making rockets (I think you have a little bit of responsibility for that 😉) and this week I have been searching about wich type of motor I should use and where I can buy it. But all the pages that I visited don't export their products to the Iberian Peninsula, so I can't buy them. I visited too the page that you recommended in your Rocket Helicopter video, but I don't know which type I have to use. Thank you for your time and congratulations on your channel. I enjoy a lot watching your videos.

Some advice from a rocketeer: Eggtimer Rocketry provides great flight computers and reasonably inexpensive (and very, very tiny!) GPS tracking units for rockets. You can also use their flight computers to fire ejection charges at apogee, which would probably have spared you the nail-biting deployment you guys got. And if you get the chance, you need to come out to Friends of Amateur Rocketry in California. It's just about the best place in the world for big rockets.
@gnomelife

You need dual deployment or a proper rocket tracker :) Try the Eggtimer Quark for dual deployment or the Eggfinder kit for GPS tracking. These are very popular in the rocketry clubs in the UK.
