Cleaning an extractor and an ejector plunger with carburetor cleaner. After a number of rounds through your weapon, microscopic particles of brass will inhibit the ejector plunger from working freely. This method clears it out, restoring operation.

Thanks for this. I got a 3rd hand tikka 222 and I did this w wd40 and bang it in and clean out the gunk and repeated it. It eventually popped out and now it's working great. Now to hunt caribou on the weekend! Thanks for the video!

Really good advice. Lotta folks just wipe the bolt face & think theyre done. I disassemble the bolt and do a similar action with the ejector. Every so often I will put Bore Tech bore cleaner (copper solvent) down in the extractor and let it melt the brass. Do this around 900-1k rounds per barrel. Then I let it soak in over 24hrs. Next, I place it in a sonic cleaner and let it get nice and vibrated around, then let it dry out and using the Ed Rocknowski method, I place a "drop" or two of oil on it.

I was having ejection problems after about 500 rounds out of my .308 SPS Tactical. I found your video, and after doing your cleaning/oiling method twice, I did get a lot of particulate to come out. I then decided to take out the ejector and spring and see how clean I got it. I found a bunch more crud around the ejector and spring, so I cleaned it all with carb cleaner. I do thank you for your tip, and I believe just doing your method would have most likely have solved my ejection problems, but taking the ejector plunger and spring out (which is a pain in the ass without the proper tools) and getting rid of all the crud makes me feel a little more confident. Just my 2 cents.

I like keeping things simple. I've hunted with the same Win Model 70 for 20 years and have never taken the bolt apart for cleaning; in fact, all I've ever done is brush clean it and wipe with oil. I guess I need to do more but have never had a problem.

When I clean rifles I take the bolt assembly completely apart and clean it. Then reassemble it and back in the gun it goes! I guess this method is OK for a quick range repair if you are having a stuck ejector or other issue but in order to make any mechanical device work and last a long time with minimal wear, disassembly and cleaning is always the best way to go.

What do you mean ( @ timeline 2:30 or so...) ...."This one does not have a SAKO type extractor". Well....it sure looks to me like one . Does he mean this gun has a plunger style EJECTOR, knowing the SAKO ejector is a fixed ejector running through a slot in the bolt face, and not a plunger style?......what is he saying?

I'm no gunsmith or expert and I was looking for info, however, I always heard that break cleaner is good for cleaning. Also, always heard from parents that gun parts should always be dry, to never use a lubricant on you firearm because it gums up, attracts dust, and in cold conditions it loses its viscosity which can cause parts to not move freely. Also, if you are concerned about microscopic brass particle entering your bolt, then you can disassemble your bolt.

Firearms should be oiled with a very fine film of gun oil, the main reason is rust prevention. Also, oil is essential when metal to metal contact and movement is happening.

Ty Larimer remove the bolt. next get yourself a nice creeping oil (automatic transmission fluid and acetone can work in a 50 50 ratio as a creeping oil) a nonchlorinated brake cleaner (or carb cleaner) and some clp (i dont like break free but any cleaner lubricant protectant of your choice). first take the bolt all the way apart or as far as you can (this is a good time to clean it too) and apply the creeping oil on all the parts if it comes apart if not put it all around the stuck part and let it sit. then tap it gently (but hard enough to help knock loose dirt) if that gets it free use the brake chleaner and then the clp to keep it from rusting. if that doesnt get it free alternate between the creeping oil and the clp with brake cleaner in between. if its just messed up because its dirty this will fix it. if there is a broken part youll need to replace it. if its just put together wrong reassemble correctly (youtube can help) and that should fix it

Wouldn't it be more effective to just drift out the ejector retaining pin and give the bolt a good proper cleaning? Ejectors and extractors are NOT that difficult to remove!

It will but it's really not a good cleaner. WD40 is a water displacer and not a good lubricate for firearms. I use brake free cause I get it for free at work but it work's great.

Oooooor,.....You could learn,..like I recently have,..... that plunger ejectors SUCK!! Lol,...sorry, but I have just learned a LOT about the extraction/ejection process. Thank the Father above that most of my rifles are Control feed or push feed with a mechanical ejector system (IE a piece of metal that runs through the bolt). I LOVE the AR15,...but NOW see WHY so many people flock to the AK47 for cover. And I am not even talking about the AR's,...I am talking about my Stupid Savage Axis 2 XP. I replaced the Ball, Extractor and spring,...then the Ejector spring (The ejector is now, hard as a Rock!),...but even with ALL these fixes,...the brass still gets extracted and then,.....rattles on top of my magazine! I SUSPECT that he extractor Ball is too small OR,..the extractor spring is too weak. Because it cannot be the ejector any longer. The ball is Standard eighth inch under the extractor,...but the enhanced kits that they sell to remedy this problem that a TON of guys have,...is larger. Oh yeah,...and they are SOLD OUT of these enhancing kits! Lucky me!!! YET,..some guys have found that these ENHANCED Kits do nothing to solve the problem and find that the Ejector is to NARROW! Isn't that just a slice of fried Gold!? You could drive yourself MAD trying to figure it out. And it seems like such a simple problem. I have worked on carburetors with better success than this! I really have to say that I think the WORST idea that ever came along was the Plunger Ejector. It was SUPPOSED to save cost. LOL!!,..how could having to make a tiny piece of metal, a ball a tiny pin and tiny spring, save costs for a manufacturer, over cutting a grove in a bolt and welding a slice of metal at the end of the stroke!???? IMHO,..it is just another way for something to go wrong and ya have to go out and buy another gun. The thing that kills me is that people bad mouth the Mosin Nagant, but that rifle will strip the rounds out and shoot them across the room. (Just keep the wood swell DOWN around the interrupter/Ejector area and keep it well lubricated. They SHOULD have made the rifle with a double stack, like the Enfield. It would have solved all the problems.) As will the Lee Enfield,..or,.... even better a pattern 14 or 17, etc. And if you get a Mauser,...FORGET ABOUT IT. That rifle will save your life!! Control feed over push and Mechanical Ejector over plunger ejectors EVER DAY OF THE WEEK. Thanks for letting me vent.
