Just a tip: for the nasal bone, so it doesn’t split like the one did when you let the kills dry put a rubber band around it so when it dies the domes will dry together.

Nose bone split because it got too hot. I use straight water, no soap or anything for the "boil" its more of a simmer. When i whiten white the skulls i use the v40 salon care cream peroxide and i brush it on. Wait a day, rinse, and repeat 2-3x. Then mop n glo. Bone will not fall apart. The added stress of re "boiling" in the peroxide solution is what did it in for you! I do alot of skulls thats the best way i find. Never have any skulls lose their whitening or anything.

I use the brush on method of peroxide as well and I agree it’s definitely the way to go in my opinion. No worries of splashing or anything like that on the antlers when putting it on with a brush 🤷🏼‍♂️

I did a bull's skull in Africa to mount on the front of my drill truck. We found a big ant hill and set it on top. 3 days later and a quick boil it was ready for varnish and mounting.

Hey man skulls turned out nice. I use the pot to cook them also but I just use a large scoop of oxyclean in the water. Oxyclean is designed to attack biological stains and works great at loosening the meat off and bleaching the skull white in one fell swoop. Get the water to a simmer and let it cook for about 2 hours. Don't even have to use the pressure washer 👍

I apologize if this is a silly question, I’m doing a euro mount for the first time ever, so you have to get the brain out before this 2 hour boil or will it boil away with the rest of the flesh ?
@OHSGrad
@OHSGrad 2 жыл бұрын
Did you have the antlers wrapped when using oxyclean?
@robolyn
@robolyn 2 жыл бұрын
@@OHSGrad you can for extra protection but I usually don't. I find that gives you a false sense of protection. I put the skull in and then fill it half way with water. Pull the skull out and get the water up to a boil. Then drop the fire all the way down and throw a heaping scoop of oxyclean in SLOWLY lower the skull in cause the oxyclean will start to froth as it comes in contact with any meat left on the skull. Once it calms down and the skull is in SLOWLY add water with a garden hose till the water level is maybe an inch below the knurles on the antlers. Then crank that heat and bring it back to a SIMMER not a boil. Regulate the heat to maintain a simmer and you can inch that water up real close to the antlers. This is a whole day project so take your time and enjoy the process with your trophy. Have a couple beers and pull the skull out every half hour or so and scrape off any loose meat with a knife. Be careful though cause your knife will make cuts in the bone since it will be slightly soft from being cooked. My elk skull took a grand total of about 3 hours or so but I've done lots of them. Worst case scenario if you do get the antlers a little bit let it all dry out for a few weeks and then rub them antlers down with linseed oil 👍
@portugal5698

If you want irony, the fact that hunters are the biggest advocate and do the most work to not only improve quality of life for the animals but to also conserve their population at a sustainable abundance because they care about the animals and want their populations to succeed so we can continue hunting and our children will be able to do the same.

Finally. Felt like I watched 4 of 5 videos before I finally saw someone take extra care into protecting the original color of the horns. Even "professionals" I saw seemed to half-ass it and let them get discolored. Satisfying results, all around.. I fear destroying all of those delicate nasal cavities, if I try to attempt it. Especially with the power washer.

Here’s a tip for easy skin removal. Don’t freeze the skull if you do the skin adheres to the skull and it’s harder to get off and do you have a chance of making the bone turn a shade of brown also boiling make sure if you wanna keep the color on the antlers make sure to always saran wrap them and then tape them so the color which is just dirt and oils and stuff doesn’t come off when you’re boiling it. (Oh never mind on the saran wrapping thing just realized he talked about it in the video)

Random person Uhh. Someone. You make no sense. Hunting isn’t meant to save starving people. It’s meant to feed the hunter and his family. Being a benefit to wildlife is a bonus. “Natures way of fang and claw is a far crueler fate than I bestow.”
@ohioelevation9871
@ohioelevation9871 3 жыл бұрын
Random person Uhh. Someone Animals have been hunted by humans for well over 10,000 years. If humans suddenly stopped hunting let’s say deer, the deer population would skyrocket, deer would consume far more vegetation meaning less food for other animals. At some point coyote and wolf population would skyrocket because of the abundance of deer. Then thee wolves and coyotes would kill off tons of other species. Human hunters are a necessary part of wildlife. It would harm wildlife as a whole if we just stopped.

My method of cleaning skulls for European mounts is to boil them Use a regular garden hose and then spray all the stuff off the skull afterwards i rap the skull in plastic wrap and pour 40 volume cream on it leave it for a couple of days rinse off the peroxide than I'm done but every body has different methods of doing them.
@annmul4919
@annmul4919 2 жыл бұрын
FYI: when you add water to 40 volume peroxide you dilute it and that is not necessary. you can just paint the peroxide on skull. Just make sure the temperature is above 65 degrees. Or lay plastic wrap over the peroxide and hit it with wife’s hairdryer. Heat execrates the oxygenation process. I’m a licensed cosmetologist I know a couple two or three things about peroxide

The water might have got a little hot in the boil and that's why it split. It will come back some as it dries but if you wrap the nose up tight with electrical tape until it dries and it'll suck in almost perfect. If it's dried already, give it a quick boil so it's a bit malleable and then electrical tape. Also I mix that same peroxide 40 with powdered whitener and then paint it on for a day. It looks slower then your way of boiling but there's no taping of the antlers or risk of water getting in. Great video. I like the Dawn soak at the beginning idea. I will try that. Thanks

I put them in a little tub with the liquid 40 up to the bottom of the antlers. I use the liquid because it gets in all the cavities. Then wrap anything thats not submerged like the top of the skull and the base of the antlers with paper towels, works like a wick an keeps everything wet. If you don't do the whiting its probly goin to stink.

I understand that it's best to not freeze the head prior, but in some states you have to because of the CWD (chronic waste disease) protocol. Here in Texas, we can't do anything until we get final notice from TPWD that CWD is "Detected or Not Detected". It may take 1-2 weeks to get results. If Detected, TPWD will come by to take the entire deer away. Does anyone have a suggestion on skinning the head after being frozen for a period of time? Thanks.

Faster way is skin them out get as much flesh off as possible then dig a hole place skull in an put wood ash that hasn't been wet yet the ash will do the rest while it's buried. 3 months tops

So how exactly is that faster? I do mine pretty much the same as this video and get them done within a week tops. 3 months? Smh.

Shit. Where I live most people just throw there game skulls on their roof. My neighbor has a pile of sun bleached skulls on top of his cabin because he never takes them down.
