My Latest DIY Evap Air Cooler "Jumbo Sized!". this video shows how i upscaled the original model to make the most advanced unit yet (w/5 changes). all changes are detailed out in video. 1.) widened evap. pad and frame. 2.) swapped out the shower curtain rings for wire 3.) increased water flow (to match larger pad) 4.) increased the size of the water reservoir (the plastic tub) from 7 to 10 gallons 5.) added a "crossbar" in the center of the frame. unit is working great. the unit is pulling in 90F-100F air and is outputting air in the 70's! *keeping the house very comfortable. this will be the final unit. if you like the vid. please rate, sub and share. the link to the full build "original" video and how to make the simple plastic shroud are listed below...

Props! Of course what makes it so effective is the fact that the place where you live in is naturally very dry, so the air can cross the evaporative cooler pad and make beautiful love with the flowing water, resulting in it giving away energy(heat) to the H2O molecules very easily, making them evaporate beautifully, cooling the air on its way out.

A lot of people are asking about the filter. Just use a filter that's made for Central Air Conditioning. The course blue ones are like $3. Dont use the expencive ones for allergies. They will restrict air flow. Seriously, you can even use an old t-shirt.

@stspy212
@stspy212 4 жыл бұрын
The way this is set up, you're going to be pulling in a lot of hot air around the fan as well. I think this is some form of the venturi effect but I can't be sure about that. You'll get much more efficient cooling if the fan takes up the entire opening so there is little to no space around the fan. It's a really good setup otherwise.

Nice build! How many watts are the fan and pump using?
@desertsun02
@desertsun02 6 жыл бұрын
hi there and thanks. pump is 10 watts. fan 70-85-100 watts (low.med-high). if interested here's my cost breakdown: *since i run the fan whether i use the air cooler or not... the only extra power i'm using is for the pump. 10 watts (10 hrs a day) = 100 watt hours a day. times 30 days = 3000 watt hours. power cost 10 cents a kwh here, so my total 'extra cost' per month to run this is only 30 cents! (oh and it's using about 80 cents worth of water per month). so $1.10. *that's almost free. compare versus ac unit 4-5 dollars a day (or $100+ a month) forget that lol

hi there. that's right, the crossbar doesn't pump. it's just to hold the pad. i actually tried it with a 20" high velocity fan but it didn't make much difference. i think it was a 3200 cfm fan. it might be because i think the pad is rated up to 2250 cfm or something. that's about what a box fan is on high.

Will any kinda pad work ? It's just there to spread out the water? Is the pump volume important? Would a fish tank pump work? They are cheap and last for years
@desertsun02
@desertsun02 4 жыл бұрын
hi there. the pump just has to be strong enough to push water throughout the frame. i usually use the fish pump style pumps. i find that the 200 gph ones work the best. i've tried 150-160 gph ones but those are typically too weak the pad has to be an evap cooler pad for it to work very well. they are weaved in a particular way to hold just the right amount of water

Each gram of water that evaporates requires 540 calories of heat energy. The heat energy comes from the air, which is cooled. I don't think the water in the tank would experience much of a temperature change.

Get a large thick copper cylinder or an aluminum cylinder drill holes into the cylinder then place misting nozzles in the holes then insulate the cylinder and then attach a high output blower fan to one end of the cylinder to force air threw the cylinder has the nozzles spray out liquid air to super cool the air. You could set up a stirling helium cold piston outside of your home to turn the atmosphere to liquid that filled an insulated tank with a.bell siphon that used gravity flow to force the liquid air threw a flitering system to pull out all the pollutants has the clean liquid air filled a insulated tank indoors that fed misting nozzles with fans moving the cooled air around then you could also use atmospheric water generators in your home to generate water you can filter for clean drinking water. 😊😄😉

Idea, use a stirling helium sealed cylinder cold piston to generate liquid atmosphere from the gases in the air that is ultra cold. Then fill an insulated tank with a frequency emitter in the bottom of the tank that will cause the liquid air to turn back to a gas state to build pressure within the tank to force the liquid air through a misting nozzles then have a drum fan push air through the area of where the misting nozzles are to super cool the air. A way to use the natural air to air condition your home. You could even push the liquid air through a filter that removed all the dust pollen and other pollutants in the air for clean fresh air. 😉😄😊

How much outside air intake do these need to run effeciently? I Have a garage with no windows and want to know if the 15inx5in garage floor vents would be enough intake for this to help cool it down. I’m in Las Vegas so plenty of hot dry air.

@barstad-9591 6 жыл бұрын
Zachary Flynn You don’t need any outside air. The air circulates from inside the room. (See the Large Cooler video he did. The system is sitting in the middle of the room.) So different, in this sense, than true swamp coolers.

Did you figure it out because I have a window with almost the same dimensions. I’m wondering if it’s too small for a box fan swamp cooler to run efficiently.

How big an area will this cool effectively?

hi there. depends on the outdoor air temps (and relative humidity)... but with outdoor temps from 85F to as high as 100F (and humidity from 5-25%) it's been cooling down my whole house (small 2 bedroom 900sq. ft) - down into the 70's (to low 80's near back of house). **i usually keep my ac set at 81F (perfect for my drier climate) so it's working great.. *as temps rise to 110-115 it might only keep front half of house at those temps... we'll see. But to answer your question in general terms... i'd say (figuring conservatively) it cools at least 600-700-800 sq. ft. very effectively in most temps

what is the blue material?
@desertsun02
@desertsun02 6 жыл бұрын
hi there. it's an evap cooling pad. they're made from a "sponge-like" material (probably cellulose). it's kind of a big "loose-knit" sponge. holds lots of water - and at the same time - lets air pass thru it.
@gailc1948
@gailc1948 6 жыл бұрын
One video shows actually using sponges but you can't of course on this set up. Now there are also pads that can be bought for $1.00 that soak up water when drying dishes and I put this behind a fan. Works pretty good! You have done a good job and it must be hard to go through all the comments!

Throw blocks of ice from the back of freezer also

@timothyamanda4960 3 жыл бұрын
That's not advisable. You put heat into the house freezing the ice, just to try to take the same heat back out using the ice. All you are doing is making the house hotter if you do that, due to inefficiencies.

Hello. What kind of "cloth" are you using for the "water wall". I really need to try to build something like this. And what size you have on the fan?. I looked at a 16"

Just found this now....please could you explain the science of this all. / I'm in a room of 20 ft x 15 feet and wish to cool it down as the Uk has a heatwave that won't go away. / Does the current hot air of the room come through a section to be cooler where the new lower heat gets pushed out into the room. / I don't understand the science behind the section bit. / Please could you explain... Thanks Michael
