DIY Fixing Esab Origo tech welding helmet (Batteries)

My automatic blending welding helmet have stopped working.
And in this video we will go ahead and fix that problem.
As i thought the problem was related to batteries being depleeted so im replacing them and showing you guys how to to it!

I didn't know how to take the grind button of the esab savage a40 First 10 seconds and you helped. Got to mention, on a40 it's a bit different. There's two latches, so just slowly, but firmly pull up on that button. Everything else is the same. Thank you so much ;) 👍

Yeah just opened mine and was faced with that crap! Should have known when it was extremely hard to open. Mask is probably one off the first generation. Bought it about 1999.

Nice video. I think it is CR2335 Battery original with tabs.

well you can use cr2430sp cell's. Basically cr2430 with tags on them.

unfortunately many of us diy guys don't have a fancy spot welder...i tried soldering..did not work...i ended up screwing mine up and breaking all four wires going to solar panel do to impatience.so i will replace entire unit now.. they really need to sell them with easy replaceable batteries... i also like the repair one guy does where he buy separate holders for the batteries with on and off switch as well... but your repair is great also...i just think improving this flawed design so in future batteries can be replaced in a minute verses your method is best...

Thanks man. I just took my batteries out last night and will be getting new ones and trying to imitate what you've done here this weekend. Can i use electric tape on edges instead of that heat shrink you used?

I've ordered new batteries for mine but wondered why you removed the PCB/display assembly from the plastic housing when this isn't necessary to access the solder pads, and potentially exposes the delicate connections to the LCD to more load than leaving the assembly in it's plastic housing?

~Great video I did the same to my helmet, I noticed the batteries that the helmet had is 2330, and I see you bought 2430, how long do they last? I have been having trouble finding the 2330, the 2430 are easy to find but I think the difrence is they dont charge

I thought i had 2430 in it? Anyways the 2430 is 1.5mm wider than 2340 so it should have some more capacity if so. It fits :)

Really cool man , you think it charges itself from the welding flash ( arc ) other than solar charging?

राहुल शर्मा it doesn’t charge. The welding helmet battery assisted. Those batteries are regular non recharging batteries. Have to buy a helmet that can replace batteries easily or just buy a passive non auto darkening hood.

@@Mikey-ym6ok oh thanks , but there is a solar panel ( i guess it is the casing for the circuit ) above the main lens on my origo-tech other than two round sensors at front , i always thought it can be recharged like those Casio calculators with similar solar charging panel.

@@micilebase The batteries are Not rechargeable, they work with the solar cell to insure it darkens the LCD viewer instantly, when a welding flash is detected. (1/25,000 of a second typically).

The stock batteries BR2330 aren't rechargeable.

Just stripped mine and battery setup is different One larger battery instead of 2, Just a warning to strip before ordering batteries

DIY Tech & Repairs Har du något tips på hur man får fast bläcken utan att punktsvetsa? Har det mesta i garageverktyg men känns fel att bränna fast dem med mig/tig.

Lödda kan gå om du har en vettig löddkolv men ta det lugnt med att värma batteriet då det tar skada. Isåfall kan det vara värt att montera batteriet utanför.

Are your eyes worth protecting ? :) Yeah i think its worth the money. I got mine on sale for like 100 bucks or so. The cheaper ones may work to. My father have one that was dead cheap and it works as well.

I think you need to use rechargeable lithium coin cells. Probably ML2430. CR2430 are not rechargeable and will get damaged when the unit tries to charge them.

You are correct. It is wrong cells but they still go strong :)

@@DIYTechRepairs I wonder if the unit only charges capacitors and uses the batteries when the capacitors are depleted. I've seen claims that the stock batteries are actually not rechargeable.

@@DIYTechRepairs I've just modded a unit myself and added an external battery holder for two AAA cells. This unit had only one bigger battery, a CR2450, not rechargeable. Funnily enough the circuit has the solar cells directly in parallel with the battery, so it does indeed try to charge the battery when it is depleted. Bad design. Probably it was meant to have a rechargeable battery but they decided to save some pennies in production.

I have the sentinel A50. Within a month of sweating, the Dagum piece of crap went out. Now I have a worthless $300 helmet collecting dust

You can Always get batteries with solder tabs :)

Older esab cartridges cannot be repaired due the fact they are filled with hard epoxy resin.

what a stupid battery design, even cheap electronics have managed to figure out slidable trays for button battery replacements yet these guys decide to hard fit their batteries.
