I don't usually comment, but my heart feels the need, especially since I caught this video just after you posted. I just want to thank you for your channel, I appreciate you so much, I literally been following you for 2 months and I am alone mostly bc of pandemic. I do get to see my granddaughter though. Your videos are awesome and you're very smart, intuitive...loving and I don't look for any other channels on dehydrating bc when I know what I like I stick to it. You are so clear and practical and down to earth I can tell....I love when you say " bc that's how we roll!" My family says that too. Its extremely practical that you provide time stamps. I feel way to close to you to skip thru your videos, I wanna hear all you have to say and ur personality makes me smile like I am in the kitchen with you. I love getting to know you chica! Sounds weird, maybe but like I got excited for you and brought a smile and chuckle to my face about your new knife🤗 bc well, im glad ur happy and I am so similar as it is the simple things that get me happy and well, I think many ppl have lost sight of that in this world today. Blessings and favor on your entire family and everything you touch 🙏🏽🙇🏽‍♀️

It took me months to even take my dehydrator out of the box. Now that it's been cleaned and 'primed', it's been running almost non-stop. You've created a monster in me. Now I have to dehydrate all the ginger I've been freezing and can't wait for it to be powdered. I currently have tomatoes (ready for 'sun dried'), mango chunks and jalapenos for powder. Next is GINGER :) I need more jars, oh my goodness.

Thanks for all you share with us. I have just moved from a round style dehydrator to a case style one...thanks to your comparison videos. I went with the Biochef Savannah, not that you compared that one, but your discussions on what to look for were so good, that this was my choice with what we have here in Australia. And I'm loving it so much...so much easier to use in everyway. I would certainly be suggesting a case dryer for anyone who can afford one. And I needed to dry garlic today and went straight to your chanel, knowing you would have a video on there somewhere about it. Again, thanks so much for all that you share...blessings to you.

I've learned a lot from you, and I've combined some of the things you've taught me into one healthy supplement. I like to dehydrate kale, spinach, ginger, and garlic; make a powder containing all four; put the powder into gelatin capsules; and swallow 16 over the course of each day. I feel noticeably better since I've started doing this, and my A1C has gone down two points. I'm not much of a vegetable eater -- in fact, I eat way too much kid food -- but veggies in capsule form mean I get the nutrition without having to eat so much veg. Thanks so much for your instructional videos.

What is CSA ?
@erinodonovan5459
@erinodonovan5459 2 жыл бұрын
@@jeanmariemissale5663 CSA stands for community support agriculture. Basically farmer sets aside a share system where people buy a share of the farmers yield for a full or partial season. The farmer then delivers that on a predetermined schedule. Many have various sizes of shares and other options. It just depends on the farmer. We have several CSAs for different items (meats, seasonal veggie ales and fruits) that we belong to and they all handle things a little differently. But we love supporting our local farmers and of course receiving their amazing foods and goods.

I have been watching a lot of food preservation channels over the last couple of years. This is definitely one of the best and most useful. Love your content and tutorials. One question: I find that when I put very small pieces like this, or especially leaves, in the dehydrator, they get blown around or off the rack because the fan is blowing from the back. How do you control that?
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 2 жыл бұрын
Don't strip herbs before drying - do it after and it helps. Place a weighted piece of parchment on top. Don't open the machine until the fan has completely stopped. Just a few options.

Whoops. When you removed the ginger from the dehydrator, you called it garlic. You are so much like me. I pulverize ginger and freeze it in ice cube trays for my immune-booster drink: lemon, ginger, cambuchi , a c vinegar, zest, honey, tart cherry juice. I am going to try your drying method. I do not have a freeze dryer, just a dehydrator., but I think I can manage. It might just take longer. I am glad to learn that I do not have to peel the ginger. I used a spoon to scrape off the peel. It is such a chore. Now I will not do that. Thank you.

Very informative. Have been considering via Internet exactly what you detailed here as an addition to my dried canned veggie medley (lazy soup night and/or survival power outages grub). I might have missed something though. I was following it until the end when you pulled out the frozen container. Do you "store" in both jars AND frozen? Or freezing your already dried ginger? I've froze the chopped fresh ginger before, but I don't want to open a freezer during a power outage. Just curious. My veggie medley is stored in half gallon canning jars with oxy absorbers and vacuumed tight with the Mason Jar Vacuum accessory for my Food Saver. And your video...was so pleased you focused on the topic rather than jabber away about life, pets, vacation plans, and other unrelated "stuff" found on so many other sites. Thank you for this presentation.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I grew it 2 summers ago and then didn't know what to do with it. The taste was amazing but I chopped it then put it in old ice cube trays and added water. Once frozen, I bagged it and there it sits. Not sure how to use it since I didn't think it would be good in tea - not sure why. I drink it as tea when I'm sick! I just thought the heat would make a too spicy tea but now I know I can dry it in slices for tea, powder with arrow root powder for cooking. Can I use arrow root with other things? My dried onion always clumps but tastes so much better than anything I've ever bought - it just clumps really hard.

Yes - if you saw the reference in the icards - one of the recommendations to keep any powders from clumping is arrowroot.

Ginger doesn't reduce as much as other things - and I'd still use it by taste, but use about 1/2 of what is called for fresh for dried. And use about 1 tsp powdered.

You need to use a cc appropriate for the size container you're using - and it's not necessary for dehydrated foods if you are completely dryring and storing in an airtight container. Use it if you wish. www.thepurposefulpantry.com/how-to-store-dehydrated-foods/

Candied ginger is tricky, I made it once after making ginger syrup and it worked but next time waa a fail. I do have homemade ginger powder, but best I made yet was a powder combo of ginger/turmeric/red pepper.

@ThePurposefulPantry

Pieces 2-3 years, powder until it no longer has any smell/flavor like any other spice. I recommend powdering as much as you need for sa few months to keep it as fresh as possible.

You have to be very careful about the oven because often they can't get low enough in temp to do it well - or not burn. So be careful, prop the door open if you can.

So I ran my ginger in the food processor after following all the steps but I see a good deal of the grainy threads. I don’t see the ginger on the video looking like that. After dehydrating they are still there, tho very brittle. Curious, is this normal? Is it still okay to process into a powder? TIA
