This video shows how to construct pillars for a Halloween cemetery fence. Please watch my other video for instructions on making the fence sections. • DIY Halloween Cemetery...
I never did record the final distress technique. Basically we went back and added a little mist of black spray paint. Also, you can used watered down black paint and brush on using a paint brush. Make sure the paint is watered down.
Below is a list of materials needed to make the pillars. The amount needed various on the number of pillars you are constructing.
2x2’s
2x4’s
Wood underlayment sheet 4x8
1” thick Foam Insulation sheet
Wood glue
Construction adhesive (liquid nails)
Drylok Masonry Waterproofer
Black Spray Paint
Nails or screws

Great project. I’d suggest adding 1” wood screws to secure the plywood underlayment to the frame, which I did. Brad nails are not meant to be used as a permanent way of attaching something. They’re great for using in conjunction with wood glue.

They look really nice! Great idea using those spikes with the holes. I'm definitely going to build these for 2024. Maybe I'll try adding some fake moss to the columns. Thanks for the tutorial

Great job. I recommend using rebar hammered into the ground, which your PVC fence posts can then slide on top of. Perhaps 3 or 4 per 8' section evenly spaced. This will add to the overall rigidity of the fence and columns since they're connected. Thanks for sharing.

I made some 7ft columns, as my entry gate and added 40cm, 15in?, concrete pavers to the bottom, they don't fall unless the ground is not even. Haven't decorated them yet.

@@KrazeeKraftZ yes, it is similar to wood paneling. It's typically found in the same section of your local home improvement store. It is paneling that looks like stone and comes in 4ft x 8ft sheets. Approx $35 (US)

In the materials, you said 1 inch for the foam board, but in the video the board says 1/2 inch R-30 I want to make sure I purchase the correct board, is it 1 inch or 0.5 inch R-30?

It looks great I like your videos! I wonder if you could just put the foam directly on the wood frame without the plywood to make them lighter?

What are the measurements for the 2x2 on the base?
@KrazeeKraftZ
@KrazeeKraftZ 5 ай бұрын
He says in the start they are about 16-17 inches wide.
@Sigmund1924
@Sigmund1924 Ай бұрын
16-17 inches is for the 2x4’s. Cut the 2x4’s at 17” and the 2x2’s at 13 inches. Double check your measurements during the first column to ensure that the insides of the base on the 2x4’s and the 2x2’s are flush. This is necessary since the vertical pieces of the furring strips can be properly glued to each at the bottom.

if you used 52" 2X2s for your smaller pillars, what were the dimensions for the larger pillars you constructed? Clearly they are larger than the smaller pillars.

What is the black spray paint used cause normal paint will just eat the foam and yours did not so please if you can let me know the spray paint used
@erikgoodwin
@erikgoodwin 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t recall which paint I used but I typically always buy standard rust oleum or krylon when I’m not painting a plastic surface. Maybe try spraying in thin layers and gradually add another coat or two.

@@Kyp678 Thanks. I’m making five. Just finished cutting the wood. Definitely using dry lock but the brick panels sound like a great idea. Reminds me of the haunted mansion at Disneyland. What was the problem with them? Did they start to warp being outside?
@Kyp678
@Kyp678 Ай бұрын
@@Sigmund1924 yeah with temp changes, they warp a little bit and need more screws to flatten it out. Passes the eye test at night but definitely noticeable if you look close

You only say the length of the outside dimension of the 2X4s at that point in the video. What are the dimensions of the 2X2s on the inside? For those of us trying to replicate your design, it would be helpful to know dimensions of the underlay on each side, the vertical 2X2s, etc. And, if your gateway pillars are larger, what are their dimensions? @@erikgoodwin
