I built a duo 6s cradle system each wired in series. Then I heard about parallel charging and that bothered me. This helped confirm that my wiring is correct so I should be able to plug it in without blowing something. I did blow a cheap charger a while back getting it wrong! I also didn't think about using 2s, 3s, etc cables instead of a 7 pin. That makes sense as the charger rotates from pin to pin (cell2cell). So thank you again my friend.

the balancing is in the charger through the pins to the "balanced" wiring. If you are using a 2-5 amp brick type charger with a single ground and single positive a BMS IS needed to take care of the balancing. It distributes the amperage to about a half amp (usually) up to 1 or 1.5. It's best to go by the mfgrs spec if you know it.

With 6s6p if it isn't overkill. You can start car and most likely not need to disconnect because it can handle the highest alternator voltage. Stop and go every day for a week and then take it into house to put all the cells back into balance. Drill a hole into the cab and attach it inside car so you do not have to always put up the hood.

Dear, very thanks for your video ,pls,I want to know if you add pcm to this battery pack
@vuaeco
@vuaeco 7 жыл бұрын
A PCM (Protection Circuit Module) is to prevent over charging and over discharging. You don't really need to protect over charging as the Accucell 6 or Imax B6 already has overcharging protection. You might need to protect it from over discharging when you use it on your power device. But I don't think you need that, in my opinion. Adding a PCM will make your DIY pack more costly. It also add in more complications to your build. And it also cost you more time to build. These problems will escalate when you build many of these packs to string them together to make a bigger pack. What I do is I just use a voltage display monitor so that I know exactly the voltage of my pack at any time and unplug it when it is necessary. A 4.2V cell will be flat at around 3.5V to 3.7V. You don't want it to go any lower as it will damage the cell. Plus, a PCM will not likely to help you at all. Just look at the Ryobi power tool 18V battery pack. I did make a repair video on that and it turned out the Ryobi PCM board did nothing to protect the pack from over discharging. Sadly, Ryobi is not the only manufacturer that fails on this. Many other power tool batteries fail just because they are over discharged even though they all have PCM onboard. Here's the link to the Ryobi battery repair video if you want to see it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rauqdrJeqa-xn30.html

The reason that I am looking at your video is that I was given a new Ryobi 18v 4 amp-hour battery which was not working. Disassembly showed all ten cells were at about 3.8 volts and hence OK. My plan therefore was to look for disconnects on the control circuitry and if nothing was obvious remove the board and wire the batteries directly. I have an Accucell 6 Turnigy charger like you and tried to charge the battery as a complete block. The unit would not do it and gave the error message ‘balance charge connection’ despite it not being in the balanced charge mode. This is the second battery on which this has occurred and I think that the software has been programmed to do this. I am interested that yours will, but wonder if you have actually tried it. What I can do is charge linked pairs of batteries, but this means five episodes of charging to get them all up to level. Batteries all have an internal resistance which is more matched on more expensive batteries. On cheaper batteries this may lead to problems. Watching your video I will reattach balancing cables and try again, but whilst thinking about it remembered that you can buy tiny voltmeters to go on the balance cable for a few dollars and so one can monitor the power tool to ensure that the batteries are not discharged too far. Hobbyking certainly sell these for the model aircraft guys. I have also chopped a drill battery case and put in a Turnigy 18v cell to get my old Nicad tools working again. These batteries tend to be 2/3 of the price of the main tool companies. I was also able to resurrect and 40 volt Hilti drill for a friend with two 50 buck batteries joined and convert it from nicad to lithium. They are easy to charge on the Accucell charger. He was told that he must buy a new drill at almost 900 bucks. 12 volt kit can be done in the same way. Thanks for the video

Hello Vuaco, I have some favorite smaller power tools (power screwdrivers etc.) that are 7.2v. By watching your videos I have replaced the old Ni-Cd batteries (usually 6 short "C" batteries) with two 18650 cells and they fit perfectly.....My question is, when two 18650 cells are used together to power a 7.2v tool, Is it considered a 2 cell pack and should it be balanced charged? The newer high voltage tools have many 18650s so is each one considered a "Cell"? Or should I consider every pair a "Cell"? All your videos are packed with lots of info and I would not even consider re-building any battery packs until finding and watching your channel...I have re-built packs for family and friends in the past months and they think its magic! Lol Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with the world and especially me in Canada :)
@vuaeco
@vuaeco 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, a 7.2V with 2x 18650 is considered a 2 cell pack and should be balance charged. You can get away with a few cycles by not charging it to full 8.4V but eventually you will still need to balance charge it.

Because there is no such thing as a "LiPo" program. Both Lithium Ion and Lithium Ion Polymer (incorrectly termed "Lithium Polymer" or "LiPo" for short) share the same set of possible chemistries (because they are in fact the same other than what they use for their outer shell) and can have (depending on the chemistry used) a charge voltage from 4.1 to 4.35 volts.

If you only have 3 sets of 4 in parallel, it's a 3S4P pack. You cannot have 4 in series with 3 sets of 4 in parallel. But anyway, you can still balance-charge your pack when you have series/parallel in your pack. The principle is still the same. Just regard your parallel batteries as one giant cell. For example, if you have 3S4P that means you have 3 in series and 4 in parallel . Just consider it as a 3S pack with each cell 4 times the capacity as a regular pack. So the balance charging procedure is still the same as a 3S battery pack. And you can put the balance lead anywhere along each of the 4P.

@Solutions Architect I do watch most videos at 2X speed, but that doesn't help to rid consistent repetition. It has nothing to do with "patience". I am highly intuitive, so I grasp new things very quickly, unless there are many distractions. Like constant repetition, or when people talk too slowly. The fact that you blindly assume you have higher technical aptitude than a random person on the internet, of whom you know nothing about, makes me think that you most likely do not. Your comment doesn't seem very logical and strong logic (coupled with strong intuition) goes a long way in being jack of all trades. Which demands a high level of technical aptitude.

And how you do things like me (on the cheap). I have a question, I built a 3s4p pack with fuse wire. After I built it, I checked it with my multi meter and the reading was 11.7v. I then connected a 400 watt inverter to it. I ran a load of 27 watts for around half hour. Then the alarm of the inverter began to sound off. After disconnecting it from the pack the voltage read 3.2v. How is this possible? Please guide me to the right path. By the way I didn't use a BMS or hooked up a balance lead like you. I'm still waiting for my imax 6 from China. Thanks. Mario
@vuaeco
@vuaeco 6 жыл бұрын
Is it 3.2V each or 3.2V total? (you have 3 in series?) Depends on what kind of inverter you have, most will have a low voltage cut off about 11V. You can use a volt meter hooked up to your inverter and run it under load and monitor where exactly it cuts off. I'm from California, Asian, yes, but my accent is kind of messed up because I watch too much British and Australian television! :D

A 3S Li ion pack nominal voltage (average) is 11.1V (3.7 x3). So your inverter might cut off prematurely when your battery pack still has plenty of juice. If you're brave enough, try 4S Li ion pack. They are designed to run on lead acid batteries so they can run at 14.5V comfortably. Some inverter can handle up to 16V DC though some will burn out. Try at your own risk though :)

You can. But you have to make sure they all have isolated grounds or they will short out. And it will also take you a lot of time every time you have to charge the battery pack though.

CAUTION This is total nonsense - you are balancing cell pairs with other cell pairs, you are NOT balancing all the individual cells: To that you would have to isolate or separate cell pairs into each individual cell, not coupled together in pairs as in the video. Sorry but if you don't know what you're doing, don't publish videos unless you say what your limits are.

@@vuaeco Right, let's get this straight so people don't waste their time: If you are balancing cells it's for a reason. If you want to balance a series of cell PAIRS then this video is for you. But it is obvious that balancing the SERIES of pairs is important to you - so you must be doing it for a reason - presumably that you think there is a need to balance the entire battery properly. So what's the point if you don't balance each cell-pair before balancing the series? You could have a bad cell or a failing cell in any of the pairs. Sorry but the video is a waste of time unless you check and balance all cells. If you live on the assumption that batteries don't need balancing (i.e. each cell) then why balance any at all - simply don't bother. If you want to play with lithium batteries, it's good to know what you are doing - bad batteries can cause fire or explode when overcharged or wrongly charged. Again I say CAUTION to your viewers and would urge you to correct your video instead of being rude.

After shutting off, It wont turn on unless I charge it and then disconnect. Full is 28v and minimum is 24v. When it turns off unexpectedly.
