You need to put a strip of conductive metal foil running from the outside of the small pyramid shaped thingy (Google calls it the "hammer" in the specification PDF) to the small semicircular tab which is exposed on the upper right of the finally assembled viewer. This becomes the button that you press so that the hammer makes contact with the screen. Unfortunately it's very unclear in the official PDFs since Google was targeting manufacturers and not home builders so they don't have step-by-step DIY instructions.

I'm not quite sure how the pyramid can touch the screen when you press the button outside. In the videos introducing GCardboard, it doesn't seem to have any copper tapes inside and I'm very confused about whether that button actually work? Can you explain it for me, please?

Главный недостаток конструкции в том, что невозможно регулировать расстояние смартфона от линз (если это не фирменные линзы с правильным фокусным расстоянием). Я убрал заднюю крышку, приклеил доп. стенки с направляющими для бокса с выемкой под смартфон, который был в коробке из-под него. Теперь я могу его двигать бокс со смартом внутри кардборда ближе-дальше и фиксировать двумя спичками, когда фокус наиболее чёткий.

Thanks, very helpful. The design is more confusing than the original Cardboard and it does not come with instructions.

+sniperdoc8404 If you get lenses that are flat on one side put the flat side toward your eyes. If your lenses are convex on both sides (same), obviously it doesn't matter.
