Nice easy project Lindsay. I especially like the "flowers" at the end of the straw. Makes it look real. Nice job.

I think the feeder is gorgeous. I find that if I put my sugar into a big measuring cup and only add a small amount of boiling water from my tea kettle, then stir until all of the sugar is thoroughly melted. Next I finish by putting in the rest of the water I need from a bottle of drinking water from the fridge. The nectar is immediately ready to use. No waiting.

Very nice video! Now a question: You said that if the feeder is to full no nectar will come out but that if it is not full enough the nectar will all leak out, so what happens when the birds drink it down halfway? Will it all run out?

Omg! Fantabulous! ❤️❤️❤️ I think this is the BEST (and prettiest) DIY hummingbird feeder I think I've ever seen! 👍 I work with wire and was looking for something like this. I need to get some huge beads and I'm thinking I may be able to recycle some of my old cannula tubing (aka oxygen tubing) and create a splitter or either drill 2 holes for multiple feeding ports. Thanks for sharing this fabulous idea! 😊

I loved your video and thank you for sharing this great idea! My parents (mostly dad) sits with his flying friends daily and it's so sad because dad has lost most of his human friends in his neighborhood cuz like dad says, "They didn't beat the odds of waking up that morning". I tell dad...nah, I'm willing to bet they just got tired of hearing their wives nag all day and figured since they always came over here for a few beers n good convo, why not make it a permanent situation? My dad always listens with non judgemental ears and gives you 5 stars just for bravery to place any power tool in your hand and learning how to use it! So, I think I'm going to take this very lesson out of all I watched, and show dad I too tried, so he may have to tidy up any mess I create, but I know for a fact this Father's Day, he and his buddies won't mind 1 bit!

LOOOVE this video! thank you for posting this (even though its old and i just NOW found it!) i needed to find something to put at the bottom of my glass bottles! I ended up just taking the plastic bottom of the cheap feeders and using some E-6000 to keep it on there! it totally worked though and they still get the nector! very pretty bottle! ; )

so, will it be ok, when it gets lower in the bottle? or is just the initial prime of the feeder that you need to worry about. love the idea. I broke my plastic one and it was cheezy looking this is way nicer

If it won't hold a vacuum when the liquid gets low, then the birds are going to be playing a particularly suspenseful game of jack-in-the-box! It's like a reverse dunk tank!

Remco Smit you can tip it back gently and displace some of the air if that happens, so far so good and the birds are using it:)

Cute, but only one bird can feed at a time. Also, that plastic straw won't last long and regular cleaning would damage it pretty quick. Harmful bacteria builds up which causes intestinal distress for hummingbirds so their feeders should be cleaned, especially if sitting in the sun, every four days. Maybe a small rubber hose would be better.

Sugar is ok for humminbirds ?
@onebrightflash
@onebrightflash 6 жыл бұрын
Plain white cane sugar mixed one part sugar to 4 parts water is recommended mix for humming birds. Brown sugar is not recommended because of contaminates. Do not use artificial sugars either because the hummers need the calories.

It's a beautiful idea but as you were speaking it was dripping sugarwater. You could see the bubbles. It's very dangerous for a hummingbird to get sugarwater on its feathers most of the time they perish because they can't fly and starve to death

This is nice and pretty but one feeder for one bird doesn't work. I have 3 feeders that will handle 8 birds each. I sit in a chair in the early evening watching 15 ti 20 birds feeding and buzzing the area. My neighbor who is 92 enjoys watching them. Your bottle would do nothing to please them, I make a gallon of nectar a day as they are in the yard from sunrise to sunset. Good luck attracting more than a couple of birds.

Gary Finger I actually have 2 other multi bird feeders and I have never seen more than 2 hummingbirds at a time. There is more than enough nectar for them:)

I am sorry, it is really fun to sit on patio and watch the little guys go zooming around, Just sit and wait and one will come within arms reach and hover in front of you. to say thanks, My feeders are not exclusive to humming birds as other come and try to drink Biggest bird so far is a Cardinal. Actually nothing prettier than 8 birds drinking at one time then a tough males zooms in and away they go. I make my own nectar but never have I colored it red. Just clear sugar water is all that I use.
