The jars look awesome but the surface area is small so try the jars and if you want to grow larger batches watch my other video where I show how to do the same thing with plastic food storage containers. It's great idea. I wonder if fiberglass window screen harmful to health or not. Thank you.
@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 5 жыл бұрын
I can not say for sure but I feel comfortable using it. It is plastic coated and the part of the micro greens that I eat do not have contact with the screen. I cut the micros off about .75 of an inch above the screen and then pull the remaining out and compost it. You could try two layers or cheese cloth and that might work I would cut the misting down to once a day if trying that. Someone had mentioned using a piece of panty hose which I think is nylon. I think you can probably buy food safe screen somewhere but it might be costly. Your welcome. Thanks for you comment and thoughts.

You can get an 8 pack of stainless "sprouting lids" for mason jars here www.amazon.com/Stainless-Sprouting-Strainer-Screen-Canning/dp/B07KJYBV24 for $1.75/ea. Might be better deals elsewhere. I think they're just spotwelded onto stainless jar rings?

@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think you can do that you may need to double it so the seeds won't fall through and it may not be as reusable as a the plastic screen. You can also probably use nut milk bag material which I believe is nylon.

@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 4 жыл бұрын
I understand. Yes, I have had folks mention a piece of pantyhose material works and I think cheese cloth may work if you double it up. They make nut milk bags out of a nylon mesh material and that would probably work if you can find it. Please let me know how you make out so I can pass any helpful info along. Happy growing!

Hello. I sell a nice little assortment pack that works perfect with my larger micro greens planter but would also work great for the mason jar version. It is here www.etsy.com/listing/808991876/micro-greens-assortment-pack-with?. I would suggest trying that because it gives you a nice assortment and enough to give you many batches of micro greens. If you want larger quantities of seed or nutrient I would recommend Amazon for the Maxi Gro and Todd's seeds for the seeds.

Hi I'm a newbie to this! Does the screen technique work for other things like lettuce or only micro greens?
@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue. It is just for micro greens. The screen would prevent larger plants from being able to grow their roots large enough. Works great for micros and maybe even to baby plant stage.

When you add your nutrient water, do you fill it up to where it barely contacts the screen or slightly below the screen?
@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 3 жыл бұрын
I fill it up to about a 1/4 inch from the top and just keep the seeds moist until the roots reach the water after that they will take care of it.

They do not sell online as far as I know. So I included the Amazon link. If you don't want a four foot light any led shop light with a 5000k spectrum bulb will do great. I have a 2 foot long one that I use in my kitchen window. I will try to look that one up for you later.

Why use nutrient solution? I would have thought that is they are requiring nutrient solution, they have outgrown the seeds resources and then are no longer a microgreen but a small plant
@CharestStudios
@CharestStudios 3 жыл бұрын
The nutrient solution is not absolutely necessary, however I have tried it both ways and with solution gives a much healthier crop and much quicker. I also feel that if they have all the nutrient they could need, they may be more nutritious.
