MODERN BUILDS
Hi, My name is Mike Montgomery and I'm a MAKER; a designer, builder, and full-time content creator. Accessibility is my focus with Modern Builds, not simply accessibility of designs, but accessibility in materials, information, and projects themselves. I've focused on creating furniture and DIY projects that are simple enough that any beginner maker can accomplish, yet interesting enough that any expert might be inspired. Building and making is becoming less and less of an exclusive hobby and profession. My goal is to reduce that separation even further.

Don't let your hot mud dry proud, I'm told it's harder to sand. Dump the red mud pan, get a stainless steel, either welded corner or folded spot welded, little to no flex in the pan and easier to clean. I'm not sure what you are planning for the hallway, but I think I would have taken care of those walls before putting on the corner bead. Also on the inside beads, I've found using a corner trowel for the first run, speeds things up. I've never used the spray, like to see how it holds up in the long run. I use the corner bead with the tape attached, works for me. Putting up the rock always makes me feel the project is coming to a close. Good feeling.

Enjoying your videos, keep up the good work. You mentioned Vancouver Carpenter, he has a tip for torn drywall with exposed paper like you have in the halls there. There's a primer you should spray before applying any mud or paint to those torn sections.

Next time just use dry wall mud to attach the plastic corner beads. Tape the joints first, then apply the mud on the corners and apply the beads. It will also act as the first coat on the beads.

When using mesh tape, you need to use hot or fast setting mud you can get 90 or 120 min mud. Premixed mud loosens the adhesive on the mesh tape. Mesh tape on ceilings and walls can crack, I’ve made that mistake. Paper is less likely to crack which is why the pros tend to use it.

Love the series, id recommend using a drywall counter sink bit so the screws don't go too deep. Once the screw breaks past the tape and into the actual drywall, they lose the strength. It looks like this happened with some of your screws. Keep up the great work!

1) You should have stapled the corner beads. 2) you dont need to paper or mesh tape corner beads. That is a ridiculously unnecessary step. 3) you dont use all purpose mud with mesh tape. Ita meant to be used with hot mud/quick set. 5/20/45/90 mud which has a chemical reaction to set in limited time. 4) you didnt thin down your mud at all. You dont use it right out of the box. Transfer to a bucket and spin it with water to the proper consistency. 5) all of you gappy areas or where you applied thick mud, should have been prefilled with quick setting mud first because it doesnt shrink. 6) you need to use the yellow box of mud for taping because it has more glue content. 7) corner beads with metal on them are inside and outside specific. The metal always goes on the inside. 8) if you have a joint against a textured ceiling you should have never used a corner bead there. That should have been prefilled snd then flat taped with paper tape. Craftsmanship like this is why I stay so busy. Lol

The author does like to from scratch, kzfaq.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.
