Today on Modern Builds, I'll be making a Mid-Century inspired slatted coffee table from solid walnut and maple dowels. This design could easily be made using 2x4 pine as well. For more information and step by step directions, be sure to check out the written article.

I've had good success with removing squeeze out in tight spaces with a drinking straw cut at an angle and tape on the other end. The tape catches the excess glue! Didn't read all the comments, hope I'm not repeating. Love your videos, it's inspiring me to start my own channel.

I love it when people use no screws in builds like this. It gives the piece so much more warmth than using screws and junk. I would like to see if you could make a 3-tier shelf like this table.

I really like the 20 something mistakes you made along the way. Thank you for not editing them out. Really nice table in the end!! Good job. The problem with the holes not lining up I saw coming because Matthias Wandle always says drill presses are not perfectly vertical and his solution is to rotate the wood while drilling it. He doesn't use a stop block to align pieces. He instead measures them all and center punch them to guide the drill head. I'm no woodworker. Just woodwork KZfaq watcher :P

RobertGoulet298 Not quite this video. In other videos he mentioned that the drill press is not exactly vertical and if you rotate the wood while drilling it will make alignment easy. He basically rotates the wood 180 degrees and back a few times while drilling a hole.

The table turned out great! What I really like about this video, is that it's very real. Every project I've ever done seems to have an issue that forces me to backpedal, or re-evaluate how I want to do it. A lot of videos on there skip all that. Thanks for keeping those moments in, it makes it authentic. Great job, and I can't wait to see what's next.

Nice result, I think it's really cool you left in all the mistakes you made in this build, things go wrong all the time with any project and it's interesting to see how you made little adjustments as you went along and to see the natural development of the process

love the table! great work. You could Make small spacers on the top then put a sheet of glass over it, this way it would make the glass look like its floating!

I really like your designs. Here is a tip I found about a year ago for getting out glue in hard to reach places. Use a drinking straw. Straight flexible ones work the best. I was surprised at how well it works.

@Modern Builds. Glue squeeze out wont give your finish problems in the future if you prefinish pieces before the glue up. Pices like this table where like you say its impossible to get into the nooks and crannies merit finishing those areas beforehand. Beautiful piece I hope to see more like these!

Definitely need a decent powerful drill press for this project, and a good quality forstner bit, would work well as a design for a bench too... Thanks for sharing,

Nice build! It looks great, although it looks like the legs could be a little flimsy. The design may have been a bit more robust if you made 4 leg/spacer pieces. Can't wait for the next build!

I like this more than the Nelson styled bench. Although you missed the opportunity to have legs the fold in to the space in the slats.

Hi Mike! You can use smal wet brush for cleaning all the glue. It works great for me :) Great build!

ye but like for a coffee table or any table in general you want to be able to put anything of any size and not have to worry about it falling through. like keys. they might fall through. or pencils idk... i mean its a simple solution just put a glass top on it to solve the issue. :P (and holy snap! op replied to me i feel so special :D)
