That's a tough one. Best to cast it in parts then assemble. Stay tuned for my videos on 3d printing which is another great option :)

Great video and nice work! You make it look so easy 🙂 I’ve been using the 325 with a compressor for the air bubbles. Seems like this resin is a lot easier to work with. Thank you for the tips!

I almost always pressure cast- this was just an example how you can get away with not doing it for simple pieces :)

This is really helpful! I want to make custom nendoroid figures and recast hair, but I'm stuck on how I can have the silicone completely cover it. I cant attach it to the wood like you did on yours so how can I have it float inside the mold. Does what I'm asking make sense? Thanks!
@Declan-pg8cg
@Declan-pg8cg 3 жыл бұрын
If you mean casting only the hair, it can be done a number of ways. But if you want the cast hair separate to put on a specific figure, you need to take that figure into account. A two part mold works beautifully for most of these applications. What exactly are you looking to do?

Would you say this is worth making if you want just one neat clean figure for yourself?
@SteveFerrera
@SteveFerrera Жыл бұрын
It's a lot of work for one clean figure- but cheaper than scanning and printing- unless its a large piece- but I've done it a bunch of times just for one good one.

Wow! Really nice! Just want to ask, why is your final resin opaque white and not transparent? Is it because you are using casting resin? Or because of the baby powder? Sorry just a newbie here and I really want to learn about resin toy making.
@maddiedoes3571
@maddiedoes3571 2 жыл бұрын
There is a chance that he used an opaque resin coloring, but I can't say for sure.
@SteveFerrera
@SteveFerrera Жыл бұрын
yep- i specifically get the white- I like that as a base for painting- but they have clear and black and you can usually dye any color too.

I know super Sculpey is a clay that you bake but my question is when you make the mold of it do you have to bake it or do you pull the mold on it raw.
@SteveFerrera
@SteveFerrera 6 ай бұрын
You don't have to bake it. It peels out of the silicone easily unbaked- but I usually bake it so it has a bit of structure- so I can bump it around a bit when I'm setting up the mold :)

SWEDISH CLIX yea there are silicones that can mold rubbers and silicone. But not all. Vendors could prob get specific. Also depends on mold release.

Do you bake the figurine before making its mold?
@SteveFerrera

yes, usually- so it's less fragile - and I can rough it up a bit when prepping the mold.
