Build a work stand for your motorbike! It’s an easy to use, sturdy rig for the home mechanic. Download the PDF for how to build your own here: fortnine.ca/en/diy-lift
Our ‘Tinker Totter’ uses a simple design adapted from the original concept in the 1940’s Motorcycle Mechanics Handbook from The Armored School in Fort Knox Kentucky.
**Prices in this video are estimated in Canadian dollars**
Most of these materials can be found at any hardware store or lumber yard, many viable substitutes exist for each hardware item.
The only item that may be difficult to find is the hinge- Onward™ Permalign™ Hinge
Any gate hinge that stops at 90 degrees (or 270) and swings freely will work. Find out more in the PDF.
Special thanks to our friends at Global Dimension Engineering for sharing their design for their own adaptation.

I‘m highly interested in two aspects: 1) Weight limit - not due to construction strenght but due to how much bike weight can an adult person hold in balance with stretched elevated arms while letting it roll uphill to the tipping point? 2) What is the advised procedure to let it down again, as that rear lever part has to be disengaged and straightened before rolling back (again: also for bulkier/taller/heavier bikes)?

Good concept but I can see this tipping sideways as it's very narrow. I would improve the design by adding gussets to the side of the legs for stability (or swinging outriggers with a chain to limit their extension). Then making it fold almost flat for storage along a wall by change the leg fixings to more pipe pivots, with a pin to lock them in place when in use, then it can parallelogram down. Then you can stand it on its end and tie it to the wall.

Love the plans! The one hesitation on this one is wheel removal. I wonder if you could frame out a platform to be able to get the bike onto stands on top of the lift!?

Very do-able! We toyed around with screwing a scissor jack onto the lift, but didn't want to complicate the video too much. ~RF9

DIY...now you're speaking my language. A few modifications...scaling back the dimensions of the lumber, replacing the re-bar with a removeable piece made of ABS pipe, fix some wheels to the end, and I'll be able to roll it around and stand it on end in a corner of my garage. This will be great for my sub 300lb bike and scooter.

What happened to the waterproof gloves video?

Copied from earlier reply: They messed up with equating gasproof with waterproof. They had a cool bubbling tanks with slightly compressed air inside the gloves. It looked cool but it didn't prove what they thought they were proving. The replacement video will likely fix this error.

My only caution is sideways stability. I'd be tempted to build a wider base, but then that takes away from the small footprint

Of course! The length of the lever and height of the fulcrum can be customized to suit your needs. ~RF9
