Here is an easy solution. Drill a hole thru everything and put a bolt in it with a lock washer and two nuts. Thats what i did on my 2010 corolla and its working perfectly. Don't forget to put a little bit of grease on it afterwards.

I totally agree, it's an ethical responsibility that manufacturers don't seem to care about. Not just Toyota, same issue with the door check links of GM vehicles. No replaceable bushings, you need to buy the whole part again.

Thanks so much for this video. I went into the same repair on my '99 Avalon aware of what the problems would be (thanks to you). I took one of the bushings from the dorman assortment I got at pep boys and altered it. Had to slice a few mm off the back side, bore it out, break it to enlarge it, and then epoxied it into the hole in the arm. Put some white grease in it and popped it onto the ball from the motor. Hopefully it will last as long as the car, If not, there are a couple more of them in that assortment.

Great video and explanations. And yes Toyota should be shot for having a design that is not serviceable. It's called built-in obsolescence and makes us buy new cars so even though the rest of the car is great there is parts that are built in guaranteed to not be fixable normally. I have a 2004 Sequoia and I got an OEM motor for $175 and transmission for $200 from McGeorge Toyota in VA. The dealership wanted $400 just to replace the motor, and $265 just to buy the motor. RockAuto has a motor for around $105 and transmissions for $63 and $95, the more expensive one is rated cold climate just like the OEM from Toyota. I go OEM because if I'm saving labor, I just find it easier and I have less issues. This and the rear hatch are the issues with the Sequoia, I first had the dealer fix the rear hatch, guy from St Martin, believe it or not, has the best video on repairing it, and it cost over $700 for both parts. I broke the latch after a year, that was my fault, I was breaking camp in the rain, and I forced the hatch closed. When I got home to open it. the cheap plastic lever on the hatch broke. I got an OEM replacement on Ebay for $50, took 45 minutes to change. Other than these issues, I have little to complain about with Toyota, I bought the car with 78,000 miles for $17,000, and other than these two problems, the only thing I've replaced are the shocks, now the front left shock was a challenge, even the mechanic at the dealership asked me how the job went. I love Toyota, because, like the mechanic in St. Martin said, the engineering is great, one size socket to do most repairs, very easy to work on. Simple ingenious things, like the tab on the transmission that grips the firewall to pop the ball in the socket, GM vehicles never had that, what a pita.

Isn’t that annoying?!....seeing a small part of assembly that comes off but can’t be replaced individually? I’ve seen that around with multiple manufacturers, as someone mentioned, probably that’s how they make more money. I have a 2014 RAV4, bought with 42000 miles and which now has 140000 or so miles that is pretty much a piece of junk. The issues it has 1) wiper low speed stopped working about 10000 miles ago 2) sunroof doesn't work when it is hot outside 3) Infotainment/Grace Note Blue Tooth console went to "rebooting" screen at about 60000-ish miles and hasn't worked since 4) A/C works intermittently 5) uses 1 - 2 quarts of oil between oil changes. This is the 2nd Toyota I've owned (first was a 2006 Corolla CE I bought new which was a pretty good car but which I traded for the RAV4 at around 142000 miles on that car). I am not planning to ever buy another Toyota when I get rid of this RAV4. I'm sorry for the trouble you and the owner of the 2010 Venza had.

Nice fix . What I have done for tricky spots to grease is use a hypodermic needle to pierce into cealed areas . But it’s not easy you can brake the needle , have to patient . Used it on sealed bearings etc .

I just went through this with Ford Focus , ball wore out bushing. For me though replacing transmission was cheap enough and it did come with a new linkage. But it seems that ball/socket issue on the linkage is the weak point for many manufactures, you would think that method of putting a screw and washer through the ball would be Oem and not just diy it would only add cents to the cost of the car.

Guy 123, you are right, shame on you Toyota and Nissan and probably a lot more manufacturers. I just repaired my Tocoma 2008 wiper link arm which had fell off its socket. I just forced the arm back in its place after applying a lot of grease and I tied and stretched a 6 inch long piece of bicycle inner tube to the arm and I attached it to the car body nearby. It works but for how long?? Google "rod end bearing". That is what manufacturers should use on these linkages. There would be no end to these parts if designed properly.

I did a fix on this system where the bad end was on the motor welded a bolt on and used a tie rod end from lawnmower worked good saved some money there system really is bad .

Its a scam that many manufacturers do with spare parts. I needed to get a new linkage for my Toyota Dyna truck and Toyota tried to charge me $560 NZ for it. What a bloody rip off. Then I needed 10 plastic panel clips for the front fairing, they were going to charge me $85 for 10 plastic clips that wouldn't be worth more than 10c each.

this is the worst part toyota has change the wiper link on my toyota to a new superceeded part that is different than original and what really blows you have to buy a new motor as well because the old motor will not bolt up to the new part so really shame on you toyota.....The happy part i found another link from a bone yard that needed to be taken apart for parts on mine the ends were in better shape i cleaned lubed them and carefully got them to click together and success its back on the road again...

I guess up in Canada you have parts problems if you order from America then you have to pay duty in taxes I just bought a wiper motor and similar linkage they look brand new none of these rust and things that you're showing here I wasn't expecting any of that anyway but so I would say order from Southeastern United States junk yards there's billions of them down here that's where I ordered my stuff from it was beautiful no worries with any of the balls being pitted corroded none of that we don't have that kind of thing going on down here that whole wiper assembly with the motor linkage and all and like like new condition it would be silver and clean like the one you bought from the dealer almost with the motor be about 120 bucks and it would not even look worn there's a lot of years it cover these things not just the venza

It's done intentionally as they want us buy new cars often. In the future they won't sell parts but whole cars only. Make them disposable like condoms. I used to own '87 and '89 Toyotas, let alone they were made for JDM, and they were gorgeous in terms of quality and engineering solutions as compared to my current Avalon 2000. And I heard the quality of Toyota degraded recently...

Just got a 2012 Lexus ES a week ago the Wiper arm that attaches to the motor fell apart that same as the Venza. Lexus wants $900.00. Went back to the used car dealership the car was purchased they are going to try fixing it. Just bought the Lexus 1 week ago.

I just fixed the wiper transmission on my 96 accent. it wore out the plastic bushing at the motor. that is the bushing that is going to feel more force because it moves both wipers and all linkage parts. fortunately all of the balls were in great condition, but I do consider toyota to be better quality than hyundai (apparently not for that particular part, however), and I think toyota is the best car made, but the toyota quality has gone down. when you disassembled one in the 70s and 80s you were constantly impressed with their attention to detail and how owner friendly and fixable they were. not any more. it's call planned obsolescence. they don't make hyundai's as good as they used to either. I own three. I hate to say it, but when china starts selling cars here, they will want to prove something to us. that will be the time to buy one. then after we begin liking their cars, they will also make them to fall apart. it's sort of a type of 'bait and switch'.

Not just Toyota, GM did the same thing 2011 chev impala has the junk they call wiper transmission not worth a shit bushings gone at the wiper motor for the 2nd time plastic crap cost me $200 for the whole linkage as the bushing is not replaceable.Im going to drill a hole through the bushing and put a pin or nail through it and just get another nail when that goes screw GM. Since the 80's, manufacturer's spare parts are a rip-off and that's not by accident: They are interested in the new car buyers and leasing customers. They make sure there's no failures in the first 4 years, but after that, they make sure used car buyers get fleeced with extremely expensive parts, that aren't designed to last. New cars are stuffed with cheap $1 chinese circuit boards, and if you need one of those new, its between $800 and $2000 for those cheezy peace of shit circuit boards. Corporations are not your friends - more like the mortal enemy of human beings.

On some of the 4-cylinder Toyota Tacomas PVC hose one size. Is different then the other and dealer is ask 50 dollars . its made out of rubber not metal ,Toyota need to stop scamming owners

Anyone find themselves replacing the wiper motor every couple years in their older Toyota? I have a 2002 Camry, had that replaced twice; now the motor makes a noise but the wipers don't move. Hoping to not have to buy a new motor. Any suggestions? Otherwise this car has been amazing, very few repairs, just maintenance (brakes, etc.).

You went through so much trouble for nothing. The wiper cover is called the wiper cowl. This isn't just on Toyotas. I have a 2008 Dodge Ram that I bought new with the exact same design. 11 years later to 2019, at 145,000 miles my wiper transmission bushings wore out. I had to buy the transmission assembly also, but I bought the transmission assembly and motor together from Mopar off of Amazon for $189.95

so you thought it was easy to remove the old wiper motor hahaha! i've been there before... thats the toyota design it that way... their wiper motor last for 20+ years or ask your BS mechanic whats wrong with the wiper's.. the BS mechanic says the burn is defective ... you pay for a new motor that's $169 then all he does is replacing the wper fuses that's 0.025 cents each!! its good business for non-car people.. I even use diagnostic scanner to check the wiper motor..another $25 profit..for non-car people
