Good stuff! Making some of these this weekend. The process of burn, cut, and repeat is definitely the best way to do this. I started to burn both ends before cutting them off. This allows a bigger buffer between the burn and cut so the wood can cool down.

@@BuildDadBuild Not epoxy. Apoxie. It is a two part mold that doesn't need heat to cure. Think of it as putty that can stick to pretty much anything. And has some great selling points. Hi, Nick! I stumbled upon your videos a month or two into the "plague" lock-down. Your content is great! Entertaining and you present the information just as it should be. I'm a whiskey-drinkin, "vintage" rock-and-roller my damn self your vids feel like hanging out with my buddies in my garage. Good stuff. Now enough of the stroke-job, I have a question about the coasters: Do they absorb condensation or do they repel it? Do they get slick when wet or grippy? Ok...two questions. The look is awesome and I really appreciate the depth of dye trial-and-error. I'm just curious how they're performing for you in the Texas climate. Cheers!
@BuildDadBuild
@BuildDadBuild 3 жыл бұрын
Hey brother....thanks for the stroke?? LOL They repel water. If I did another round I'd use Total Boat Halcyon Rugged Varnish (it's a boat varnish and I think it would just hold up better). They do not get slick or grippy...the moisture from the glass tends to move away from the glass and into the missing grain areas. Cheers!

This is the first one that I think I'm going to jump into right away (as opposed to the others that I like but don't have time for right now) because I am currently in need of coasters. Also, I'm in Cypress. I like the "moss green" set. I'm going to try and make it look even more mossy. Basically if the swamp thing had a set of coasters, this is what he would have. I don't recall you mentioning what type of wood you used for the 4x4. Not treated pine obviously. So what was it?

Hi, I also make these as a side business, it is 1000x easier to cut all the wood, and then torch them all at the end

I've used a couple of different things. I want a particular texture in the end. Most stuff that I've used makes the char feel too plastic-y... I am curious how Cactus Juice would work.... Cheers! 👍🥃👍🥃
