Honestly, I love each look. And I think if you combined each technique you might get an even more interesting piece. Something like methods 3, 2, and then 1 in that order. I think if you first routed the edges and made it look like it was part of some bigger more intricate piece, then aged it with a hammer and some chains and knocked out chunks and maybe use the turbo plane a bit... Then use the cutting blade to make it look broken... That would give it the used and abused driftwood look for sure. Feel like it could tell a story.

If you ever make these again, or just one for yourself, you should totally do the ends like the red one, but also add the texture of the yellow one on the body of it. And of course, burned but use the red dye and a skull opener. That would be like the ultimate and best of both worlds. Like, if I saw that on etsy, I'd buy it immediately. But then again I'm a 36 yr old married woman who has a porcelain skeleton hands sculpture that I use as a jewelry holder on my vanity so.....lol. I might be biased. So mad I didn't get notified of this vid back when it was first up. Cool designs all around though!

Holy cow, so many questions from me, I'm so sorry! I'm making four of these right now! I wish I could send you pics. I've been using Folk Art Ultra Dye also on a few of these (by the way I think they are discontinuing the Ultra Dye line 🙁) and I was wondering if you water down your dye before you apply it? Mine looked way more super thick when I was brushing it on then when you were dispensing it from your cups. Thanks for all of your help and answering my questions!

No worries. I use Folk Art Ultra Dye right out of the bottle, no dilution. Cheers

I am wondering if this technique can be used on pressure-treated wood. Thanks

No. Burning pressure treated wood can release toxic fumes.

Did you actually use the venom green for the yellow board? Also, I think the ends you did with the termite, would look great with the textured look done with the turboplane.

Derek, That is the Venom green. It goes only a little more green, but dries more yellow. Cheers!

Hey I dub the “THE BARON OF BURN!” Because of your videos I want to burn the wood that will go in the bed of my 1959 Chevy truck project. I am cheating and using a sheet of plywood instead of individual boards. An advice for putting “the STANK” on plywood vs boards? Thanks and I love your content (and whiskey) Be safe.
@BuildDadBuild
@BuildDadBuild 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Patrick! Yes!! When it comes to plywood be careful. Use something like baltic birch that has really thick plys. And keep the torch moving. It's really easy to burn through the top "face" ply. Good luck! Cheers!!

@@BuildDadBuild another question....have you ever had any issue with warping when you are doing the initial burn? I've never seen you mention it although I haven't seen all of your videos but I've been trying to use a spray bottle and it seems to help but I'm wondering what your experience has been?
@BuildDadBuild
@BuildDadBuild 3 жыл бұрын
@@slappymcslapster8845 If you get a severe warp you can burn the opposite side to bring it back to straight. Also pay attention to your grain orientation. If the "C" is facing up it's more likely to cup.
