Do you remember the scene in Steel Magnolias when Daryl Hannah says "My work tends to be too poufy when I'm nervous!!!!"
That's me, always, on my first video of the day. I made this bigger than what I intended and didn't finish out the back cause I had to make 5 more videos that day. So forgive me.
The great thing about using a Lomey bowl and foam is that you can make it at home, then affix it to your vase at the venue. REMEMBER THE GLUE STRIPS!
Also, make sure you put extra water in the bowl, and keep refilling especially if you're using hydrangea! Hydrangeas are heavy drinkers, like my Aunt Blanche.
Email us if you have questions or would like to order flowers at www.flowermoxie.com

ps. When will I stop being an open-mouthed breather when I'm working???

t is flour that has been weighed out to 150g then used in this case unleavened bread with a leavening agent which makes it in fact leavened bread ..I ask unto my inquisitive human companion what is time itself? Is it mearly a product of our apelike minds processing the world around us and attempting to make some sense of in all..what is flour? If the grain of wheat is never broken and milled does that still count? Does a man standing in the road at 6am screaming into the sky covered in his own fecal matter have any thing less to offer this particular bread recipe than a fully trained French baker?..we may never no the answer life is just full of these conundrums I hope this clears up the issue you have faced or any other issues you may have in your day to day operations peace ooouuuutttttt

Large arrangements like this can take a little bit of time, so we wouldn't recommend waiting until the morning of your wedding to start making these. 1-2 days beforehand, green out the arrangements and add your hardier blooms. More delicate stems can be added on the morning of, like the hydrangea. To keep the foam hydrated, pour water through the flowers using a small watering can and give the blooms a good misting with Crowning Glory!

@amymccord6480

The hydrangea would not get enough water, unless you put the foam/lomey down into a deep bowl full of water after you made them to hang out in for two days. It's tricky because foam can does give hydration, but not enough for them to last 3 days, make sense? If you have access to a large cooler that is great but a regular fridge would probably be too small.

Of course, you'll just want to make sure that your bowls are max full for they hydrangea! In the summer, I'll set the arrangements into the Pyrex dish full of water so the foam stays submerged.

Such a beautiful arrangement! How long do roses and hydrangeas last using oasis?
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 5 жыл бұрын
Complicated answer: A lot of it depends on the temp. The colder it is, the longer it will last. If it's in your house, around 70 then you can expect the hydrangeas to last a good day, and the roses will last about 2 days. Its important to rehydrate your foam daily and you can also extend the life by using Crowning Glory Fresh Floral Spray. When foam is down in a vase with plenty of water, the above rules don't apply...it's when the wet foam is sitting in a shallow design bowl with little water. Make sense?

Absolutely beautiful! Question, would my 6” opening on a vase work with a 6” lomey bowl or would I need a bigger bowl size?
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, I had to go measure and try it out myself first! Ok, so rim to rim the Lomey is exactly 6''. I set it on a 6'' vase and it sat down in it without falling inside. I think it would work just fine, but my personal preference is a 9'' Lomey on a non-tapered vase. Check out this video where I just talk about mechanics for tall arrangments: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rc1krdKYl6jbj2w.html

Honestly, I would take the recipe given and just cut the stems shorter. I didn't do this because I needed long stems for my second video of the day. If you want it the same size (without cutting stems shorter), then I'd add about 3 more hydrangeas and 3-5 more roses.

GORGEOUS!!!!!! I've watched this video twice and I'm saving to watch later. Are you a professional florist? I've been noticing on KZfaq videos that the professionals use the green floral foam where as others use white styrofoam balls. Is there a real difference?
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am. The foam is Oasis Wet foam for fresh flowers...it soaks up water to keep your fresh buds alive. Styrofoam works great for silk flowers but fresh would die pretty quick. Hope that helps! Also, one other tip....if you're doing these centerpieces on the regular I'd suggest wrapping the foam with floral chicken wire and secure the wire with zip ties. It creates a better 'cage' than the tape and it's more sturdy.

Your tutorials are so good. I have watched this video multiple times. My client is someone who purchased the amazon stand with a 9" opening trying to save money. She wants to DIY or me to DIY. What are your thoughts on an 11 1/2 " Lomey bowl? I would really prefer her to go with a tall glass cylinder for stability or pay for the better stands.
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, Alyssia! I would have her bring the amazon stand to you, plop a Lomey on top with something weighty in it, and shift it around to test the stability. If you feel it's gonna be a shitshow and set you (and her) up for failure, you can explain and show her this and then opt for the tall cylinder. I had to learn over the years to give boundaries with clients to protect my reputation and protect them from themselves. If I felt something was going to be a fail I would simply tell them no because when it doesn't work out (no matter how many warnings and disclaimers you give) they will ALWAYS blame you in the end and want a refund. I hope that helps! XXXX, Amy

Wonderful!!!! This is the recipe I would use if you're wanting something around the same size: 1 bunch of salal, 1 bu of leather leaf, maybe some Italian ruscus. Then I would back-fill with 8-12 red roses (Freedom, Red Heart, or Black Pearl), and 8 red or burgundy carnations.

The day before, and make sure you re-wet the foam the day of and keep the florals in a cool location. Hydrangeas are what makes this tricky because they are so water loving! You could make it smaller, double-down on greens and use football mums, roses, and stock without the 'hydrangea issue'

Beautiful. How do you transport this to the venue?
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Dina, you transfer the Lomey Bowl Arrangement on its own, and then once you get to the venue you'll fill the vase with water, apply floral clay/putty or a glue strip to the lip of the vase and attach. They are a hassle to do, so for DIY brides I only recommend making around 5 of them. =)

@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Shooshi! We have another video discussing tall vase mechanics so make sure to watch that, it'll be super helpful! So hydrangeas you'll need to place in the foam the day-of or they may get wilty on you. You might want to go with roses, carnations, poms/cushion flower, and greenery if you want to build it the day before. Gerber daisies aren't a great choice unless you intend to wire them, as their heads will droop. Nah, dawg, it will only break your heart! If you want it bigger, then I'd recommend wrapping the foam with chicken wire so it doesn't break apart. I have a video discussing tall centerpiece mechanics that you need to watch. Also, I wouldn't recommend doing over 5 of these if you're DIY'ing. They are kinda a pain and I don't want you feeling overwhelmed on your wedding week. For the recipe, I'm not sure what blooms you want to go with, so I'd probably do a Custom Design if I were you! Questions for 30 roses , a couple Veronica , statis , will the plate hold it or it should be the bowl plate ?
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 3 жыл бұрын
For that amount of weight, you want to get a Lomey Bowl and use a foam cage or wrap your foam with floral chicken wire and secure with zip ties. Reason being, the weight of all the flowers will break apart the foam if it's not encased or reinforced. Lomey Bowls are a thick, heavy plastic and can hold extra water for hydration purposes.

@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 3 жыл бұрын
Nope, you would want to wrap the brick of foam in floral chicken wire/mesh and zip tie together. Or could buy a medium floral foam cage. The foam by itself would break apart with all the weight so you'd need reinforcement. XOXOXO, Amy

The best way to transport these is to fold down the back seats of your car and carefully lay them in! You might want to grab some friends who have larger SUV's to help, but nestling them in tightly together will help prevent a lot of shifting in transit!

@@FlowerMoxie thank you for your share. Side note for beginners: We pre-tape vases and transport them in the cardboard box they came in. We place vases on tables, fill with water, and then attach lomey dishes to the tops at the event. It's easier to transport and way less of a headache. If they have a desired "focal view" - use a chopstick with a post-it on it and it will remind you exactly where your front is. The fit very well in my SUV like this. Good Luck to you all!

Unfortunately, they can't quantify greenery by stem count, they do it as a 'growers bunch', so it's more by weight. Unlike roses or ranunculus that have specific stem counts. If you take a peep on our website you can see the bunch sizes as we take them in-house and hold them against our body to show scale. For this tutorial, I used one bunch of Salal and one bunch of Seeded Eucalyptus.

Where did you get those bowls from? Is that any clear tape?
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 4 ай бұрын
The bowl is called a lomey design bowl and we sell them on flowermoxiesupply.com! They come in several different sizes depending on what you're using them for. There is clear floral tape but it's generally not as strong as the waterproof green/white kind. We recommend using the clear tape if you're working with a clear glass vessel where you won't want to see the mechanics of floral foam or chicken wire.

What artificial flowers should I use?(:
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 5 жыл бұрын
I think faux roses and hydrangeas would work great! You could mix up the greenery, too. If you want to make it more life-like for an event, consider using real greenery like salal and mix in the faux!

Hey there. Sorry if this is a silly question, but why do centrepieces generally use foam or chicken wire? Why cant I make a bouquet of flowers and put it in a vase with water? That way I can make the centrepieces ahead of the wedding

Not a silly question at all! Using any of these methods you can make the flowers ahead of time. Some styles of design, like this tall centerpiece, need to be done in separate pieces, to make them easier to transport and so they're not soooo heavy. However, depending on the type of vase and design you're doing you can absolutely just use a cool container and fresh water!

beautiful but unstable, based on my 30 years of flower design. without a counterweight at the bottom, it looks like it would tip over. Also, the small and shallow amount of floral foam used to hold the flowers at the top doesn’t seem adequate to me. I don’t think flowers that heavy would stay in place. I absolutely love the effect as photographed, but transporting it might cause it to tip over and the foam crumble.

These are all great things to consider when creating a tall stemless centerpiece and we talk about all of them in another one of our videos! Ensuring that the tall cylinder, or tall vessel you will be using is filled with water, helps to stabilize the arrangement so it doesn't tip over. Also, having the sticky florist putty or glue strips attached to the rim of the container assists in securing the lomey bowl. This all needs to be done on site at the venue, for ease of transport as well as to preserve the integrity of the arrangement. We make sure to tackle all of these issues in another one of our tutorials solely dedicated to this, cause there's a lot to consider when making one of these!

Why does she fill the tall vase with water, when the flower arrangement is designed in a dish with foam, it will not bring up front the vase. So it serves no purpose! I'm a professional florist, so I know! Unless she wants the water in the vase for the look of a vase full of water!
@FlowerMoxie
@FlowerMoxie 12 күн бұрын
Correct, the foam and lomey bowl are serving as the water source. The water in the vase is meant to be decorative as it wasn't preferred to have the vase be empty. We hope you found the basic construction of this stemless centerpiece vase helpful and informative!

Big and tall arrangements like this take a lot of product so are definitely more expensive. A professional florist would mostly likely charge between $250-$300 for a tall vase arrangement like this! Lower vases such as bud vases or small compotes will definitely bring the cost down!
