Tacomaholic...Let me tell you how useful your video is. I've got a 2010 TRD Taco with about 178,000 miles. Been changing my own oil for quite a while now and I refer to your video every single time before I start. Why you ask? Because I have to do mine in the street as my driveway it too steep. Meaning once I'm down there, I'm bound to forget something and have to rush up to the garage. Your vid keeps me in check. I too use a gatorade bottle to collect the bit of oil from the filter drain and it works perfectly. Very little mess. Thank you for posting the video and cheers on behalf of all Taco owners! If it's helpful to anyone, I take my used oil to the dump in my town. They have a large container you can pour it into so you know it's going to the proper place.

Hey thanks again for your videos I really appreciate it I have a 2010 with 122K on it and I figured I’d just start doing my own maintenance. I took your mod advice and I got the Fumoto valve. Love the vids , I watch all of em , BTW , the threads on that mod are about 1/2 inch to 3/4 of an inch...That amount of oil wont drain because it goes past the bottom of the oil pan??? just guessing , but seems logical to me? And get a needle grease fitting for your grease gun then you can get everything greased , even between your leaf springs , I even did my CV axle boots . The puncture that was made , I used shoe goo to seal the tiny hole. lol It drives so much better OMG , seems like a new truck. Dont forget to give me a shout out when you use this ...lol TTYL peace out.

I worked at a dealership for 5 years and I couldn't tell you how many times some lube tech messed up an oil change! The only problem I can see with that valve is the threads may stick beyond the pan and not let the last bit of oil drain from the pan where most of the containments settle.

Some people like to know for sure that it is done correctly (myself included), some aren't mechanical to know the difference (and that is ok to), if you have the means the time saving and scheduling is advantageous that is a no brainer (the time to schedule, take in, time to have it performed, the payment process, the hassle to get it done when they want (not you) the time they try and upsale really unneeded items (they typically over sell air filters and serpentine belts) they all are different.

@Tacomaholic
@Tacomaholic 5 жыл бұрын
Sort of depends on the oil you are using and if it's conventional or full synthetic. The last oil I used was Mobil 1 Full Synth extended performance which was supposed to be good for 15k miles. I don't feel comfortable going 15k without an oil change so I changed it at 8k. Regardless of the oil you use you should change it at least once per year.

After you drop in the initial 5 quarts and start the truck for 30 seconds. 1.) do you have to put the oil cap back on before starting it? 2.) do you add the extra .5 of a quart and then check to see the oil level? I know the manual says 5.5 quarts is the correct amount. I have a 2011 4.0 V6!

I always put the cap back on before starting the truck to avoid any potential mess. I just check the oil level and add as needed. It all depends on how much was actually drained out during the change.

Greetings! Did it ever make that sound before the last oil change? How long after the oil change before it made the sound?
@TheTradesmanLU2001

It’s never made any unusual sounds at all. It started within 10 min of driving. I solved it. I didn’t fill the oil filter before installing it. I took it off, filled it, noise went away almost instantly.

Glad it went away! I never fill the oil filter before install when changing my oil and have never experience that sound. What the oil filter not full of oil when you removed it?
@TheTradesmanLU2001
@TheTradesmanLU2001 5 жыл бұрын
Tacomaholic I have never filled a filter either and I’ve never had issues🤷🏻‍♂️. This is the first oil change I’ve personally done on my taco. When I pulled the filter it was not full. Maybe 1/3 full. . Moving forward I will continue to fill it just in case that was the cause of the clicking sound. Right now it’s running as quiet and smooth as ever. I guess it was worth the extra coin for the Mobil1. Previously I had been running the SynBlend oil .

@Tacomaholic 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheTradesmanLU2001 So did you just pour oil in the filter and flip it and install real quick to avoid spilling? Seems like it would be tricky to do that and keep everything clean.

I never bothered watching this because I thought I knew how to change oil. Today I made a big mess replacing the filter because I didn't use a hose. For 2 1/2 years I thought that it was normal to drop a little oil underneath the filter holder. Big mistake. The more you know...

Hi, I was wondering if you could offer me any advice, I have a 2010 tacoma trd sport with very low mileage (only 67,000 miles ), I’m the original owner . I just got it back from a big reputable dealership where they replaced the frame , they had it for three months and supplied me with a rental for the entire time, I’m really happy with the job, and the fact that they didn’t try to upsell me on anything . My issue however is my engine looks like something that came out of a junk yard , I’m not positive but I think they may have swapped out my engine , it could be all just in my mind but I don’t remember the motor being all pitted and rusty , ( I wish I had taken pictures of the motor before I brought it in ) I did crawl under and I got the serial number off the casing it’s 1GR followed by seven digits ( all of which don’t come close to my vehicle vin number )… do you know if these numbers are supposed to match ( maybe the last four digits ) or if there’s any way I could tell if the motor was swapped out . I love this truck and planned on keeping it another decade or two but now I’m wondering if I’m driving around with a 300,000 mile junk yard motor in it . I tried four wheel drive and it took a long time for it to come out and when it did and I put it in drive it made a loud banging noise ( it never did that before )

Hey Holic, it’s the 20 min from Sleepy Creek guy. Would you happen to know where I can get my truck dyno tuned in our area? I have a full exhaust and snorkel to put on and I don’t wanna do it until I can get a tune to match. I would’ve asked you on TW, but I don’t know how to send you a message

@Tacomaholic
@Tacomaholic 6 жыл бұрын
Get some kind of fast food plastic cup and punch a few holes through it, attach a small bungee cord to it and fasten it around your filter so the cup is beneath it to catch all the spilled oil. Cleaning the dirt out from the drain hole should be easy with a pipe cleaner or something like that.

How often do you change your oil on a Tacoma
@Tacomaholic

Depends on the oil you are using. If using full synthetic I change it every 7-8k but for regular conventional oil I'd say every 3-5k.

The 4.o u should use motor oil not synthetic oil.if u use synthetic oil u more then likely will notice a oil leak on the oil pan gasket. Most of the time the front or rear of the oil pan gasket will start leaking.
