This video presents a thrift haul of home decor items (with purchase prices), and then takes you through the transformation/up-cycling process. The before and afters are pretty amazing. Most of these items will be sold in my retail booth, but I may keep a few!

Isn't it amazing how Sherry's videos have evolved over the years (this one is just 2 years old). I found her just a few weeks ago and I am already re-viewing all of her Christmas-Handycrafts (German: Basteleien). I love them all. Be sure to watch her new ones and... "Let's get started" 🥰

I so agree. I just found this channel 4 days ago and cannot stop watching. Now I have purposely went to the beginning to start my binging. In addition I have always been a thrifter but I am inspired even more to go find things and get the creative juices going. I have visited multiple Goodwills and other thrift shops in my area and started collecting things I "think" I can flip/fix/change etc. Wish me luck.

Your home and your style is gorgeous. Looking forward to more from you. 💗 I am so jealous of your Goodwill's prices- I have a few small local thrift stores that have good prices, but the Goodwill nearest me is very high priced. The audio on your videos isn't consistent. It starts out too low in each scene but gets slowly louder until it is too loud. I have to constantly adjust the volume up and down throughout the entire video. That is my input. Thanks for asking.

Your ideas are excellent!!! You have a true talent!!! Now I'm sitting over here wishing I had not threw away my spice rack! I have always enjoyed making things for my home but my hands are very twisted and weak from a lifetime of severe rheumatoid arthritis which makes it very difficult to do the things I would love to do. I say this because I want you to know how much I love what you do. I might not be able to do many of your projects but I can enjoy them all 15:30 vicariously. You are so cute, humble and inspiring - good for you for just putting yourself out there and making this happen - the crafting and decor world is all the more blessed having your creativity to draw from! As a photographer/video media person, I can offer a few little tips to try, as you slowly build up your equipment. You honestly don't need much to make some big improvements, and there are some very effective and inexpensive tricks you can use. 1. Lighting is the number one thing you can do to help your camera capture the best images. The easiest and most budget friendly setup is, of course, to use Mr. Sun! If you can position yourself so you have a window either in front of you or to the side of you, it will give you great lighting, especially if you have some soft, sheer curtains to soften the light. Overhead lights are one of the worst as they cast shadows under the eyes. If you have floor or table lamps that you can add daylight LED bulbs (they will say daylight and/or 5000K on the box) those can work too if you need to film in the evening. You can create an "reflector" (something that can be used to bounce light back on yourself) by using something like a piece of white foam board from Dollar Tree. You know how you can throw a sunbeam across a room using a mirror? Same idea...position a white board on the opposite side of you, facing the window, and play around with the angle and watch how it can add extra light to your face and soften shadows and lines. (you'll feel 10 years younger!) :) If you find you are getting reflection on your glasses from lights, play around with the position of them (or yourself) or try blocking out the light that is lower (like the bottom half of a window, try blocking it with cardboard or something to block the reflection, but still allowing light to come overtop and light you up. Don't be concerned what the setup looks like -You should see some of the "MacGyver" setups I've created over the years to get a particular "look" with lighting - look around, see what you have, and do some experiments! 2. Second in importance, in my opinion, is camera angle. Try to have your camera at eye level, or slightly above. This will provide the most flattering angle for filming - you don't want to be looking down at the camera, as it will make your head appear small with a large body. Whatever is closest to the camera looks biggest, so why not aim for big, beautiful eyes! Lastly, investing in an inexpensive external microphone that attaches to your camera can make a big improvement to your audio. Yours is not bad, but you'll be surprised how even a $50-ish mic can help - if you also get an extension cable with it, you can have the camera wherever, and place the mic closer to you - the closer the better, like within 6-12 inches of your face. There are some great little kits that include a mini tripod that holds your phone or camera and the mic attached on top. Some even have lights, but they're not that great. BUT, could be used as an additional light if needed. I hope at least some of that is helpful, and please feel free to ask any questions if something is unclear! I'm enjoying your content and I know how much work it is to put videos together, so thank you for sharing your time and talent with the world! I also love the name of your channel...it so reminds me of trips to England and roaming the Cotswolds... Take care, Andrea

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! It is so extremely kind of you to share these tips with me. I took notes, so I won’t forget. I didn’t understand where I should be putting the white foam board. For example, where would it go if I was facing a window? And, where, if there was a window to my side? I will definitely being buying the daylight light bulb you mentioned. My house is rather dark. Partly, because there are wooden shutters on almost every window. My son bought me a microphone which I have been using for the voice overs, but I haven’t used it for the live shots. I will from now on, though. The name Canterbury Cottage comes, first, from my love of English country decor, and second, from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales (which I taught as a British Literature teacher for many years). I’m so glad you like it, too. Thanks again. I really really appreciate it!
@andreanicole2006

@@CanterburyCottage You are very welcome. If the window is right in front of you, you may not need it, although sometimes even having it laying on a table in front of you (below camera level so you don't see it) can add a bit of extra light. (if you have one of those fold up foil car windsheid sun shields that can work too, it's extra reflective! Even aluminum foil could work in a pinch ) If the window is to the side of you (I personally prefer this look as it adds more dimension to your features, rather than a full on "flat'" looking light that a front source provides, but that is also very common and gives a more even, soft look - try both and see what you prefer), you would have the foam board on the opposite side, and it's just a matter of turning it back and forth to find just the right angle to throw light on you - it's easier if you have a helper to either move the board, or be "you" so you can work with the board to find the right spot. It needs to be able to grab the light source, then bounce that light back toward you. Even if you cant find the perfect angle, just having it on the other side of you, roughly right across from the window, will still reflect a bit more light on the "shadow" side of you and soften the shadows. Does that help clarify?" If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me at fairies@chasingwhimsyphoto.com

i am still loving your ideas - have my metal basket lined up for a coat of rich cream paint but that bathroom cabinet is really exciting - i have a cute wee cabinet and will work on the back board and its contents - thank you for your ideas
