I carry 6 Specter cans on my overlanding trailer. I ordered a replacement cap for the Specter can and made my pump from that. Then I just switch it from can to can.

i was looking for vids, reviews, hacks; i was reading and browsing around for an affordable, diy budget build water system using a jerrycan ( with a sawyer filter instead of the lifesaver jerrycan that costs $$$). i was just stuck for any new ideas and then i came across your vid and it helped SO MUCH. i like that you've included the "learn as you go" part. 👍 great vid! and thanks for sharing 👏

Hey @Bound 4 Freedom! Was wondering how you handle the dripping water from the spout? Love the idea!!
@bound4freedom956
@bound4freedom956 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had an issue with the dripping water. You could oversize the hole so any water left over will drain out once the cap is put in place.

If you buy a cap with a tap in it and put it on its side there's no need to pump which is often times a more convenient option.

That faucet looks pretty leaky after you are done pumping, whats the follow-up on that?

Great video and love the cost factor! Thank you so much for sharing :) Question: Your light blue jerry can for fuel has a smaller opening for spout. Is it the same diameter as the water pump you used? If yes, then drilling with step bit wouldn’t be necessary on this build. Please, please, please let me know the diameter of the fuel can and if the opening is same size or different. Would greatly appreciate this information. Of Noting: the Scepter Water Can cap (larger than fuel can caps) has a slight curvature. When you use the step bit, make sure you are perpendicular to that curve (that’s why your o-ring was pinching asymmetrically). FYI: Scepter caps/lids can be purchased separately (in case of errors or loss), and the main tether could be tossed (easier to fill). Thought: Could also probably make a cap for a pressurized shower and switch them out as needed... :)

Have you tried connecting a life straw to the half inch hose to create a budget lifesaver Jerry can?

Great idea, I have not. I usually just fill it with tap water and use it for cleaning and boiling

What are the advantages of hand pump over gravity feed water from a jerry can?
@bound4freedom956
@bound4freedom956 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a matter of preference. Being my water is always strapped to my bumper inside of a holder, a gravity feed jug would require me to unstrap/lift and place the water jug every time I need water. This system allows me get water without moving anything. If you have a setup where a gravity fed system would work, perfect!!

Doesn't look like this pump faucet is available from Amazon anymore. It looks like it can break off... that would mean the customized/cut lid for can will need to be replaced.

Save yourself time and $ by using some heavy monofilament fishing line to hold the dust cap on. Drill hole, push mono through and tie a chunky knot, tie other end of mono to the can and with rest of the mono - go fishing.

I was thinking about tying some braided p-cord around the pump base and then doing what you described with the mono. Another simple alternative.

Note: I've tried these exact same pumps and they work great - for about two outings. Then the cheap Chinese plastic parts just fall apart. So if you want something that lasts, get a name brand hand pump from a company like SurFlo or Whale
