Today we upgrade our Bosch Glide Miter Saw with a zero clearance insert plate. You will save a lot of money doing this yourself and it will help your cut quality over the stock one. I recommend doing this for anyone getting a miter saw or if you have one already, upgrade your insert plate ASAP. Every miter saw is different but most of the build will apply to yours as well. Enjoy the video, leave any questions below.

Why the hell he's searching for the push stick while 2s later he’s pushing the material with his (currently remaining five) fingers directly into the saw blade? Weird.

Yeah, I know the KZfaq safety police can be a little overboard sometimes, but this is some pretty sketchy table saw use.

Nice tutorial. You kept it simple and to the point. I made a ZCI for my 12-inch Bosch and went to the extra effort to make the center of it replaceable by plowing out a sliding dovetail channel that will receive a piece of 1/4-inch ply or hardboard. I don't have to replace it often but it is handy if you're like me and occasionally get sloppy and deflect the axial arm on a cut or if you do occasional compound miters. I made 5 or 6 center replacements so if a need one it's just a couple minutes to replace it instead of the 30 minutes or so it would take to remake the entire ZCI, and that would be IF I happen to have the 1/2-inch Baltic birch to do it on hand. My closest source is 45 minutes away. When I get down to my last center replacement it will just be a few minutes of setup on the table saw to make several more.

That is a great idea! I was going to make a few versions but not to that extent . I think having the middle replaceable is a huge upgrade

But why? I own the same Bosch Professional but then the new 18v but if you look good you see that you don't have to make a zero clearance insert because with this saw you can adjust the original inserts to zero.... 🤔🤔

Mine were pretty banged up ( hard to tell in the video ) so figured it was a good time to make a new one

I'm not understanding how a zero clearance insert prevents tearout on a miter saw, given the direction of blade spin. At what point do the teeth going down (the ones closest to you) cut fresh wood? The teeth on the near side of a miter saw blade go down into the air before the board, then into the kerf already cut by the rest of the blade. How would these downward-traveling teeth blow out unsupported fibers on the bottom surface of the board if the cut's already been made by the teeth on the far side? The teeth on a table saw that go down (nearest you) do cut fresh wood, because you're pushing the board into the blade, so a zero clearance insert on that saw makes sense. But the teeth on a miter saw that cut are the ones on the bottom and far side of the blade, that scoop away from you and up. The teeth near you are going down into the kerf already cut by the rest of the blade.

Regardless of tearout (sounds like it’s not an issue for you) this plate helps when making tiny cuts when creeping up on a tight fit.

Why bother making a video if too lazy to use the right tools?

That was a useless comment unless you are then going to show what those right tools would be and how to use them on this project.
