The Oak Ridge Boys bass singer is Richard Sterban. He was shaking the seats with this song in the 1980s. The Oaks took Home Free under their wing and was so happy to sing with Home Free. They told Home Free that they hoped "Elvira" was good to them since because of that song, they each were able to buy a house! 😂 Austin says that the Oak Ridge Boys are like their dirty uncles, joking with them and laughing all the time. And, they still do shows! Amazing guys! And yes, you need to check out Home Free's version of "Honey, I'm Good"!!!

The Oak Ridge Boys are one of my favorites. I have seen them at least ½ a dozen times in the 80s and 90s. They are not an Acapella group. They started as a Southern Gospel group and morphed into a country group with the current lineup. They still tour. This was a phenomenal collaboration.

The Oak Ridge Boys released Elvira when I was 6. It played on the radio about every half hour. They are my all-time favorite group and Home Free is right up there just a smidgen below them. The Oaks are all between 74-84 years old and are still wonderful and touring. This is the first Home Free video I saw and it drew me into the rabbit hole. Welcome to being a Home Fry!

When Tim was growing up he was a tenor. He always wanted to be like Richard Sterban from The Oak Ridge Boys. So when he got to actually sing with them was an true honor. The Oak Ridge Boys are mentors to Home Free. They have gone on the stage with them and everything. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

"Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oak Ridge Boys many, many years ago. As one member said in an interview, they never met the lady but Elvira bought them all houses. You are right about the tenor's voice being remarkable for someone over 60. Basses are forever, but tenors fade away usually. If you watch Tim, he sometimes beat boxes (remember the Butts Medley?) along with or in place of Adam, so sometimes you are hearing both. Not to diminish Adam's abilities--he is a phenom. Definitely watch one of the videos of him demonstrating his beat boxing. HF are definitely huge fans of ORB, and seeing them together is a joy.

This is a great collaboration between Home Free & The Oak Ridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys.

Elvira was originally a big single hit for The Oak Ridge Boys in the eighties. Everyone remembers the chorus. Many Americans knew what the reference of the chorus was. The line "Hi Ho, Silver!",refers to an old western tv show, The Lone Ranger, from the fifties that played on Saturday morning for children,. It was based on an old radio show from the thirties.. The hero was a masked man with a Native American sidekick. They fought wrongs and badmen in the West. Silver was the Lone Ranger's solid white horse. At the end of every episode, the Lone Ranger would be on a rearing Silver with the line "Hi ho,Silver, away!". Then the two heroes would ride off into the sunset to the sound of The William Tell Overture. The actor who played Tonto was Jay Silverheels, an actual Native American., The arrangement of Elvira in the video was done by Geoff Castelluci of Voiceplay. Geoff had sang a cover of the song earlier with that arrangement. Tim asked permission to use Geoff',s arrangement. One of the great thing about the acapella groups is the cooperation and lack of rivalry. Robb is comparing beards with the Oak Ridge Boy with the long white beard in the video. When they weren't filming, Robb told the man that his wife wouldn't let him grow his beard longer. The Oak Ridge member told Robb, ,"You got a decision to make.", ,

The man with the beard is William Golden. I have been lucky enough to hear The Oaks twice in concert, they are wonderful. Funny. Technically nearly perfect and just have so much fun with the audience. The Oaks have a huge list of hits that ou can get totally lost in - if you dare.

The Oaks aren't acapella, although they've done some. They started back in the 1940s(!) as a Southern Gospel quartet (with different personnel, obviously) but the current lineup has been together for decades. Back in the day there wasn't such a demarcation between genres, and groups like the Oaks did both Gospel and secular songs. They went pretty much mainstream country in the late 1970s/early 1980s. I think Duane or William Lee would be the longest-tenured Oak. Their bass, Richard Sterban, actually sang with Elvis when he was a member of the legendary Stamps Quartet before joining the Oaks. Austin's dad sang in a Southern Gospel groups, so I have no doubt that he grew up admiring them and that the shirt is vintage.

The Oak Ridge Boys were originally a Gospel harmony quartet. They branched into the general market in the 1970s or so, and also started going by the abbreviated name The Oaks. But a lot of fans still prefer the original name. The original version of "Elvira" came out 1966. But the Oaks cover, which came out in 1981, is the best-known version. I never really knew the group that well. But I think that most or all of the 1981 members are still the ones in this vid. A couple of them have very distinctive looks. * There's also a Home Free vid of "American Pie," which they performed along with Don McLean, on the 50th anniversary of the song's (1971) release. I think it was McLean's idea to do that.

When Chris left in 2016 (I highly recommend Chris' channel) that is when Adam Chance came in. Chris Rupp also did an incredible song (solo on his channel, and acapela with Home Free) when he left called Movin' On. Even if you don't react to it it is definitely worth a listen. The Oak Ridge Boys are in both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. My favorite ORB song is probably Y'all Come Back Saloon.

This was great! Must've been so much fun to do it! I still like the live version better, with audience interaction. And yes, you NEED to check out VP's version while you're at it. For more HF with original artists, check out American Pie and God Bless America. Both awesome!

They did an early version of God Bless the USA with Chris in the lineup at Mount Rushmore. But I really love the later version (recorded during Covid lockdown) with Lee Greenwood (original writer/performer) and the USAF Singing Sargents. 😍😭🇺🇲

By all means do Honey I'm good,... BUT PLEASE make it a double reaction, the first being the official video and the second being a live version entitled "Tim Faust's vibration" It is posted on youtube by Dana Griffin on May 1 2016. It will give you a real taste of what a live Home Free concert is like. also as a side note that the camera was mounted near the sound both, yes mounted not hand held. Looking forward it it and ENJOY!!!

If you really want to have Adam’s beatboxing knock your socks off while watching them do a song with the song’s original writer and singer, check out their cover of “American Pie” featuring Don McLean! I’ve heard he almost passed out from going for almost eight minutes straight.

I grew up with the Oak Ridge Boys and this song was HUGE when it came out. H.U.G.E. Like....anytime you turned on any country station, it was playing. And we all sang along with it, regardless of our individual talent. The "Oom papa oom papa oom papa mau mau" from Richard Sterban was....*chef's kiss*

Austin grew up in a small southwest Georgia town about 40 miles from my hometown. His dad sang southern gospel so Austin was raised in that tradition. The Oakridge Boys have their roots in Southern gospel.

Please check out their collaboration with Kenny Rogers, "Children, Go Where I Send Thee." Such a wonderful piece!! You may need to head to church afterwards.... And not to rain on Home Free's mighty parade, check out Pentatonix's medley of Daft Punk. Just do it.

Oak Ridge Boys are a old school legendary country band - honestly you really need to go back and check out the full original of Elvira - I remember it being my favourite song when I was little - and yeah any country kid who loves harmony would absolutely idolize ORB! Honestly my fave bit of the video is the t-shirt signing 🙂

This is the first video of your I have watched. I always enjoy people's reaction to Home Free. From comments you made in this video it seems like you really enjoy listening to great vocalist. I'd like to recommend Floor Jansen. She is best known for being the lead singer for Nightwish. She can sing classical, opera, pop, rock, jazz, and do death metal growling. I'll list some songs that give a good sampling of her versatility. Some of the songs will be with Nightwish (NW) and some will be other performances Ghost Love Score - Wacken 2013 NW Phantom of the Opera - Beste Zangers Slow Love Slow - her solo concert - slow jazz Shallow - Beste Zangers - Lady Gaga cover Yours is an Empty Hope - Wembley 2015 NW death metal growling Vilja Lied - Beste Zangers - opera Stabat Mater Dolorosa - Floor doing a guest appearance at Epica's 10th anniversary Retrospect concert - classical Sacta Terra - guest appearance at Retospect I Want my Tears Back - Buenos Aires 2018 NW This list is just the tip of the iceberg. Floor is so versatile in her abilities she could fit in with Pentatonix, Voice Play or just about anyone else you can think of.

Speaking of Mr. beat box Adam, I heard or read that the Oak Ridge Boys had to be careful where they stood, cuz they were getting soaked with Adam and his spit beatboxing! I laughed so hard at that! 😂

Chris Rupp said that on the Elvira part they had their girlfriends and crew join in to add more volume. He also said Austin bought that T shirt at a concert when he was still a kid.
