One thing I built for my night flying is an infrared flashing Beacon using a 10W infrared LED. It operates like an airport beacon. Good thing about IR no one else can see it but these cameras are super sensitive to that wavelength (850nm). When I come in from high altitude and have surrounding lights obscuring where I am located the IR light provides orientation and it keeps me away from trees. You can discern one of these lights from a mile away. Also I use the old American Indian tracking trick as I start to take off in a given direction I look back to see where I am starting from to get perspective before I go a long distance out. Night flying is a thrill.

Yes hard to be excited about most things in fpv as it doesn't change but this one is a nice change.. as for Josh he mentions he finds latency too high with any nebula camera which I don't.. in fact latency is consistantly lower than dji hq mode. I think he always just flys at 120fps 50mbit where as we have four people flying we have to go to 25mbit so hq mode is so similar. No one in our club has a problem. It's a shame josh has such a large voice in these cases

@@AndyRCchannel l would say that you have pretty large voice also Andy 👍🙂 I like Joshua but your point of view is usually more for average fpv guy. In this case it's night camera and it works really really good 👍 I won't use it for 5"freestyle quad, but will swap it at least on fpv wing for night flights....

@@AndyRCchannel I've tested the cam yesterday, both close and far (with low signal latency is a bit higher) but nothing worrying. Of course, shortly before you loose transmission latency spikes - but it always was this way, and it's not the cams fault. the latency readout in the goggles is still accurate. Would be funny if their new DRM chip causes latency issues in some constalleations (like old firmware on the vista, or different results on different hardware). Installed the cam in my Chimera5 and will testfly it this evening, excited to see the lowlight performance myself. I always used to fly in HQ mode - but when I tried to fly a bit more freestyle I felt that the 120fps mode is beneficial...

@@FunBitesTV I ran the bardwell micro eagle for a long time, then switched to foxeer predator v4s for the low light performance. They were really the best analog cam I flew, good resolution and wide field of view, flying at sunset I’d bring it back thinking it was getting dark from the goggle view only to take the goggles off and it was almost pitch black 😆. My friend runs the T. rex cam but of the two I tried right before going digital I had a ton of electrical noise that I didn’t have on those rigs with either the runcam or the predator. I’ve got 3 polar cams now, really like them, the 60 FPS really isn’t a problem for me, I’m no MR Steele so I don’t typically fly that fast aggressive freestyle, the day image is maybe a little washed out but not bad. Overall it’s a good cam if you need night flying ability and don’t mind the 16:9 format and 60fps…. Really it’s your only digital option that can fly at night.

Albert's video had some bright sunny daytime footage and it looked great in that light too.

There are two screws underneath the front of the air unit. Then two lugs at the side that pull sideways and that will release what's on now. The only thing you will find is that the air units original loom has a rubber bung in it for stress relief. You won't have that with the polar loom. It will also let air rush over the mic so blocking the hole up with something will help with that

I have DJI system but may be switching over to SB soon since Fatshark has been actually listening to there customers. Fs SB has added canvas mode which gives us FULL OSD characters now unlike DJI limited osd characters. This is HUGE for fixedwing pilots imo.

Fatshark listens to customers because they had to. You missed the ten years when they had no competition and released the same goggle for ten years... Not having it

@@AndyRCchannel yes you are certainly correct and I do remember that but I can look past that now since I own the DJI system and although it's great and works well it's missing some VERY important osd data and also has a few other bugs that I'm sure DJI will hurry up to fix. I see FS NOW trying to redeem themselves and I'm a believer in second chances. Just SB having Canvas mode now makes me want to switch over because us fixedwing pilots that don't fly in tight circles need those important OSD characters like compass heading, throttle position , ect...

The runcam will be blocked by future vistas and air units so I cannot reccomend that one myself

The camera is not encrypted it's the vista that is

@@AndyRCchannel So if I put the camera on my original Vista will it work ? I thought the camera had an ID chip or some other device in it to let the new Vista know it was a genuine camera and so a Runcam Mipi which is Vista compatible at the moment won't work with it, I'm confused about all this wizardry.

@@AlfieDoug yes it will work with old vistas. I'm fact the vista I have it on is over a year old. The camera is not encrypted it will just shake hands with the new vista that will be encrypted

@@AndyRCchannel Sorry my mistake, you introduced the video showing the Polar vista kit so I assumed you were using the kit out of the box, new camera and new Vista together, so you disconnected the camera from the new vista in the kit and connected it to your your old Vista ?

@@jashpaper8370 its stuck in 16:9 in daylight and 720p but with 50 mbit per second id say the picture is as good as the nebula pro. you just cant record in 1080 on the air unit or view 4:3. Its a much better product than the nebula micro and nano. and its better at low light than any camera for the dji system if that helps... iv bought another

The mipi will no longer work so it's hard to reccomend this even if it's good

Dunno, plenty of people who could only buy nebula nano for the last 4+ months are looking for an upgrade with no nebula pro around. Runcam mipi is a 19mm so bigger lens.
