one of the best headphones I have used are AKG. Tiesto even uses AKG. I love my "JBL synchros s500's" when just mixing at my house, but in a noisy club the AKG's would be better because of the durability and how good the block out sound. I couldn't take any DJ who wears beats seriously lol.

Never been a fan of any of the Sony's I found the original Technics RPJ 1200 headphones had a great amazing sound that allowed me to keep them lower and still hear what I needed when spinning which is important if you want to keep your hearing as a DJ. I now have a set of Pioneer HDJ 1000 and I had to send those back and told them specifically not to send me the same set of headphones because the cracking on the swivel joint was a design flaw, and just as expected it happened again on the new set they sent. I have been looking at the Beats Pro versions which are all Metal construction... I still don't like their sound as much. The Technics did have problems with their cords breaking if you accidentally stepped on it or pulled away to quick from turntables etc... they later replaced that with a coiled cord also an upgraded version w same drivers but metal construction would be nice. - www.djemir.com

The construction of the earcups makes a huge difference. I did the Blu tak mod to my AKGs where you just put a bunch of blutak inside it and they increase the bass by about 30%.

There are a lot more $$$ costly ones which I don't see him having so I'm not going to bother with it... even though I mention the above that he doesn't have he does have the HD25II ones though.

Vincent Greco If you have dismantled a Beatz Pro that cost you a HD25 before and study the build, you would vomit over how is it made. Cross over cables are super thin, loads of ppl snapped that thin cables by short terms of folding the Beatz Pro for storage, and it clamps like I've paid so much money just to get my head tortured, there's aren't sufficient floats on both ear cups.

Sound quality doesn't matter ? :D Such a joke :D I tried tons of different headphones and the technics rpdh 1200 makes life super easy to mix, so yes sound quality/definition matters a lot. Also bass heavy headphones don't provide the best accuracy :) High frequencies are what allows for a tight precise beatmatching.

Barny Riches nah, thats not true i think. If you are going for High-end/commercial productions you might need monitors, but good studio headphones allready fit well into mixing. Maybe you need one open and one closed pair, to have a good stage while refining with isolation. I don´t know that much about recording, i am still learning, but i think headphones are good enough for hobby recordings. I can imagine that its possible ^^

Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I did my own sound testing/sampling of various headphones earlier this year and these are the results I came up with. HD25 has amazing sound quality & replaceable parts but is very uncomfortable. HDJ 2000 by far has the best build/comfortability but wasn't too impressed with sound quality & it doesn't provide much bass at all. XD-53 is discontinued & has been replaced with XD2-53. Has the same sound quality/drivers & metal headband but now has a detachable cable, stronger/more durable plastic & colour/design has changed. These were the only ones I compared of the headphones listed in the video but on a side note, I think the AKG K267 & Beats by Dre Studio Pro or Mixr are the up-to-date/higher quality headphones on the market currently from each brand.

Similar to the XD-53 since they both use the Audio Technica 53mm drivers. Good sound. More bass heavy but not insanely blow your face off bass. Pretty good headphones but if it's anything like the MK1, pretty plasticky and prone to breaking at the joint.

Nice! Did you know you can also replace the on ear cushions by the spare earcups of the 2000s, so you practically get 2000s (just a little difference in impedance) for less money. The little difference in impedance is probably the cause for the heavier bass. I saved 100 euro by doing that.

What I miss here (and I'm talking from the perspective of 17 years of djing) is a pair of Technics RP-DJ1200 - I've had mine for like 9 years now and they refuse to give in. Hey Ravine, love your reviews they are really helpful.. I have a question though: what do you think of the V-MODA crossfade LPs? I`ve heard they are bass heavy, really well made and they look great and those are all pros. but how good is the isolation? Is it good enough for DJing or should I consider other options that have better noise isolation? Thanks :)

Beyerdynamic DTs are great! They're not the strongest, but the sound is awesome (a bit of a bass boost) and they're very comfortable

If you change the foam earpad cushions on the Sennheiser hd 25's with the velour cushions they're gonna be 10 times more comfortable, and you're gonna wear them pleasently for a longer time. Or at least that's how I feel them.

totally agree. Ive had the hdj 1000 and 2000, and I have lots of times gotten tricked by the headphones on how the songs actually sounds. The HD 25s has never let me down, and never tricked me into believing the song has more or less bass then it actually has. And the same goes for mid and high frequenzes.

Also, the HDJ-2000 and the HDJ-1500 actually use the same driver. Sound quality is very similar but the HDJ-1500 is reported to have more bass, speculation because of the tighter smaller earcups. The price you pay for the 2000's is primarily for it's comfort.
