I've got a system that rebales hay, but on a much larger scale at a slower pace. I unroll a round bale on a gradual hillside, then the cattle come and eat all of it over the next couple of days. During this time they digest it and crap it all over the pasture, which helps fertilize the growing hay, which I then cut and bale it as squares. Simple, cheap, and I don't have to have additional equipment or labor to do it.....lol.

I think it's really really cool when people take their kids with them when they work with equipment. It's teaches them a lot about the equipment even if they are just sitting there. When I was younger I worked 3 months at new company, unloading large alfalfa bales into 4 big "stripping mills" that were feeding into "chopping stages" and then into the blending tanks and then into the "pelletizer heads" for ... rabbit food mostly. After I left they got larger pelletizers for zoo feed and ag feeds. I was staying with my mom and dad and every night after work I'd have to hose off outside because my dad was really allergic to alfalfa. Luckily it was summer. LOL

Now if you could bale into your accumulator n run the skid steer you’d be set 👌. Often thought bout selling my kicker wagons n getting one n grapples for loader. I reckon they’d pay each other’s cost to replace, n I’d handle lot less bales. Still kicking em in wagons tho ....

Spoiled by my Haybuster. Paid $8750 new 20 years ago, only averaged about 1,000 1,500lb. bales/year, just now needed some minor repairs. Self-loading, can haul two, and of course it doesn't matter which way the bale unrolls. Most people around have the same kind, or one set on a mover for more bales. Processes an even windrow and the entire bale in under a couple minutes. No need to take twine/net off, very handy when it's frozen on. That just wraps on the rotor for easy removal (I do after every 40 bales). I see they have some on clearance, new, a bit above $20k now, higher than that when not on sale. I saw one of these like yours sitting at a dealer, they didn't sell it in 3 years. Looked well built, but I don't see the point really since it only unrolls it, when comparing the cost, vs. a lightly used other type, vs. a simple and cheap unroller (for feeding purposes, sitting still like you have here, maybe). If a person needed less hp, they make another type with sickle sections and hydraulic drive (local ranch used to make them locally, either with wheels, or it could go in the back of a pickup). My type, could slow it down, but 80 pto hp would be about as low as I'd want to go. I don't know of anyone that does straw. Very little use for small squares in my area, but my neighbor sells a few truckloads sometimes. He uses a Haybuster and bales the windrow. Some years nobody wants many, so he just does some on demand.

@@DLHFarms The "spout/blower" one, similar to a 2564 or so? Looks handy for covering areas like you were doing. I've never seen one of those around or in stock at the dealers either for some reason. Mine's a 2620, got it right when they came out, replacing the 256 plus II. Had a few things I didn't like about it when I bought it, saw the lift/pickup was poor compared to the old model, dropped bales in harder, they fixed pretty much all of the issues/weaker spots/gripes in the 2640. But mine held up this long. Never messed with bearings, broke a few flails on some purchased hay though.... The main dealer that stocks them now carries more Vermeers since they switched to working about the same way. I demoed one of their old ones when I got the 2620. No chain, harder on the tractor, core dropped in at the end often lugging it down. Plus you had to rock the bales back and forth. But, at the time, they looked "built" better, despite not working nearly as well. I'd look at one now though, don't know how build quality compares, but they should work fine.

@@DLHFarms That'd be why I haven't seen one around :) . I looked at trading for a 2650 when mine was in getting (free) updates. Trading mine in I would have owed about ~$3500 to $4k or so I think (held decent value), around the time you mentioned. I seem to recall the 2640/2650 being around $12k or so about '05ish? Maybe.... Shoulda probably traded, but I didn't, it held up anyway. Place here that sells them goes through old 2650s, replaces all the bearings, goes through the gears/box too, chain, new flails, whatever, they say basically as new, and ask about $15k.

Hey Dennis, quick question for you, are you nervous or apprehensive with getting to much machinery with to much tech built into it? Just thinking about how a lot of farmers prefer to fix there own equipment, especially attachments and stuff, but eventually your going to have software locks on equipment forcing the farmer to send things to the dealer for expensive repairs, what your take on this?

Never seen anyone feed a bale into the pickup of another baler before, but have seen them roll it onto the ground first and then bale. I've had a Hustler chainless feed out wagon for about 20 years (the company is based here in New Zealand), but it has forks out of the back to load the table and to hold a 2nd bale, would make it impossible to get in close enough to do what you're doing.

Goodness gracious if you make hay square bales into round bales you need a tractor driver and a guy to feed 20 square bales in. My goodness ya'll want to make durn sure what kind of bales you need to make. In rain and snow you need cover with two tractors running one for this bale ripper aparter and the other running either a square baler or a round baler. Sheesh.

I had to change the gearing so the 3 tables feed the baler a uniform as baled windrow... Only beneficial if there is a source for a re-sale of the new bale..clear wheat straw is costly..this method seems to provide a good bale if the result is a nice tight bale..good show..I might add love seeing kids around machinery but to show a running situation of the machine with the child in the cab by theirself is risky especially if you were to fall towards the machine and the child pulls the wrong lever..lost a friend that way..
