DNA test results confirm the true age of Natalia Grace, who's been at the center of a bizarre controversy. In 2010, she was adopted by a family who was told she was a 7-year-old Ukrainian orphan. However, her adoptive parents claimed they discovered she was really an adult with dwarfism and that she was just posing as a child. During a docuseries, Grace took a DNA test that proved she was a child when she was adopted.

For those who know the story, that means that she was abandoned in an apartment when she was a preteen around 11-12 to live alone as an “adult”. A regular kid that age would have trouble living alone in an apartment, but especially one with special needs and physical and mental disabilities. The apartment was also in a high crime area, and she was a 3 ft child wandering the streets looking for food.

@youtube-handle-are-a-joke Yes, I get that. I've been there myself looking younger than my stated age, having to pull out my ID at every stop and turn. But this case is different. We're talking a child and a man who by law, legally sits on the court bench with a robe and a gavel who can make inform decisions on people's lives, whether good or bad. He should have had a DNA test done on her to determine her correct age or how close in proximity to her correct age, instead of going by just the words of some legal experts alone or do it in addition to the expert opinion, based off the adoptive parents' suspicions. But no, he just sat in his court/chamber and decided himself to up jump her age to 22 without any DNA proof to back up his decision therefore, leaving a 9-year-old child to live by herself as an adult and her adoptive parents' thinking she's old enough to do so. That was not right or the correct legal protocol.

Because she’s not 22 either and DNA methylation tests aren’t accurate enough yet to pinpoint an exact age, only a range, which is why the guy stated it so specifically as, “The test shows you’re closer to 22.” DNA methylation can be slightly inaccurate in individuals who’ve had to live through extreme stress, as Natalia would certainly have, so it does make sense that it added to her age. She’s only 20, she was born in 2003. She’ll be 21 in September. Her birth mother is still alive and came out with all the birth paperwork to prove this. It’s ridiculous she’s had to go through this when any JoSchmo off the street could see the difference in her face now as compared to then and see she was a child.

It is extremely confusing for a child who doesn’t know what a period is!! I started mine at 9/10, my mom started really late so she just assumed she had a little more time before “the talk.” Well, I got my first period while we were out shopping and went to the restroom as normal then when I looked in the toilet to flush i had a full panic attack thinking i was dying 🥺😭 I grew up getting a lot of uti’s from sensitivities, some so severe to the point of getting a Cystoscopy done and for whatever reason they didn’t put me under for it (literally horrifying still get sick to my stomach if I think abt it and one of my only very clear early childhood memories) so i assumed it was something even worse because of the amount of blood! I already knew how much pain my body could get into down there while sick and had familiarity with small amounts of bleeding regarding my privates but i still wasn’t prepared for my first period whatsoever. I was shaking very concerned i was bleeding out and dying :( I tried waiting for about 15 mins for an adult or my mom to find me and no one ever came in. I had to decide whether to leave the bathroom or not to go get my mom and get help or wait and possibly die. I luckily had a lot of trust in my mom as a child, so I was able to go to her and she was what I needed in that moment to feel safe so I can’t imagine if I didn’t. Idk what i would’ve done 🥺I can laugh it off here and there now but i just get really sad remembering that little girl on the floor of a dirty public bathroom shaking and almost throwing up from crying because I thought I was dying right then and there. It can definitely leave a mark on some women!

The only material the judge reviewed was a letter from the family doctor / long time friend and an lcsw . If he had asked for the dental records, they would have been laughed out of court. Still want to go on a witch hunt and ruin some random judges life? Over an update that says DNA proves her age, when it isn't possible for DNA to prove someone's age? At best, perhaps they confirmed that woman that came forward years later claiming to be her mother and having a birth certificate really was. But that still doesn't prove age. She could easily have had more than 1 child, and she was sketchy as heck. Just seemed to come forward to be in the spotlight.

If my great aunt hadn't calmed me down and convinced me I was going to be okay, I would have thought I had something severely wrong with me. I just was very tall and developed really early. I was 5'10" tall by 10 years old (and parents of other kids in my grade regularly thought I was held back several years or slow because of it) and didn't grow an inch past that point. There has to be justice, someone needs to come after the judge who proceeded to change her age, the Barnetts, and their lawyers. Natalia was exposed to horrible things, became exposed to sexual deviants as a child. The neighbors who spoke badly of her in the apartment complex were as guilty as the Barnetts. She learned bad things because a child learns what he/she is exposed to in her environment. Natalia if you have a chance sue all of them, slander, child abuse, emotional distress, etc.

I think the Barnetts were well aware of her physical special needs but not neccessarily the costs they would incur. I think they decided she wasn't worth the financial sacrifice when they failed to bond with her emotionally. I do think that Natalia was creepy and disturbed though (understandable due to her Ukranian orphanage origins) and that was the probably the primary motivation for wanting her out of their lives for good. They couldn't deal with the mental health aspects, they just wanted her to be a perfect child.

I always believed Natalia because as an immigrant kid myself, I know that you have to be fairly young to pick up a language without any significant accent. I've known many immigrant children and the ones who started English any older than eight or nine ended up with a noticeable accent. So in my mind Natalia, who sounds entirely American with no noticeable accent, must have arrived in the US as a child. And this confirms it. Since she arrived in America from Ukraine and bounced around several foster homes before the Barnetts took her in, she would have been maybe seven or eight when she began learning English. The poor girl, being passed around and abandoned and having ludicrous accusations made of her. It must have been such a traumatic experience. Hopefully now that she is exonerated she can move on with life as a young adult.
