Jay W I think they were both in a maths tutoring after school class their parents put them in to get better grades, that's how they said they met. But that's beause they'were also both learning violin already at that time that they have then really bonded (I like how you assume it was Brett who would have been tutoring Eddy and not the other way around, they actually look like they were both A class students from an early age).

i hope twoset realise that although they don’t professionally play in an orchestra anymore, they’re doing so much for the younger generations of classical musicians. you have no idea how lovely it was to find a platform for younger classical musicians as it seems to fade more and more as a music genre because the majority is so focussed on the newer styles. and that’s okay, it’s just really nice to have that platform for younger generations, so thank you.

They do know, they just know too much. They know how good they are, they just thought they could be the best. You can see how discouraging it is when you see children who looked like they just came outta the fucking womb because they’re so young yet they can seemingly play better than them. They used to play professionally but they grew out of that. All their lives their parents brainwashed them into this idea to just practise, practise and practise, they had enough of that so they’re done. I’m not saying what their parents did were wrong because it made them very successful, but at what expense? Their childhood. They were the literal embodiment of Arima Kousei. There are literal embodiments of Arima Kousei in real life. Your Lie in April is sad because what happened in the anime can and also happens in real life. How Arima Kousei became a prodigy because piano was his life. Why did he stop playing professionally? Because his mom died. Why did Brett and Eddy stop? Because they realised. Brett and Eddy are really smart and intelligent. Their parents made them smart and intelligent and they know too much. Just like what Thanos said: “Knowledge can be a curse”. Do you know what the literal literal meaning of the word Prodigy? Wasteful. So what does a person being a prodigy mean only literally mean? Exceptionally talented. The Latin meaning means something that’s bound to happen. So Latinally speaking, prodigal children are children where something is bound to happen, right? Child prodigies are children who are going to be famous. Edit: grammatical error and spelling corrections

@@expression3639 The only reason I don't think it would be feasible to have "free" music education is bc I went to high school in a pretty poor area and my school couldn't even afford a reasonable number of buses due to overpopulation (and every time they'd build a new wing it would already be too crowded again), let alone fund better music education. I think there are more important things that need funding than music, especially in poorer parts of the US, and this is coming from somebody who plays oboe and tenor sax. It's expensive as hell and not fair to the people who can't afford it, but there are things that could benefit everybody that I believe are more important, like not being crammed 35+ to a class.

this is why child prodigies often don't impress me or move me the same way that a seasoned pro does. Every moment of our lives has a feeling associated with it, sometimes very intense ones, and music is often something we associate with vivid memories. I just don't think a child, or someone who was sheltered, can express these feelings or feel them the same way. That's why talent is only one aspect of overall potential.

Effects I’ve noticed from doing music: Confidence Experience of being on stage Public speaking (as soloists performing you have to speak and present what you’re about to play) Working as part of a team Maths (as a bassoonist figuring out where I’m coming in after 250 bars rest) Patience (counting bars, long orchestral rehearsals) Focus Time management Language (as a singer lots of language learning but also as a musician in general lots of language bits here and there; Italian being a big one) Responsibility (the shame of forgetting your pencil for rehearsal can help with that eek!)

Lol as an Asian it was never occurred to me that music could be a “career” because how I brought up and the stigma around it. It always looked as a thing you do as a hobby or as a “side earning” when you have another stable job. Which kind of made me sad because I love playing piano, I love performing, it has always been some day dream for me to actually go around the world playing the piano classically but there’s no way I can do it now. People might say “it is never too late” but reality sucks man. Edit: Wow, I didn’t think I will get so many response and it’s actually endearing that so many people has been through and thinking the same thing as I did. You are not alone! I really appreciate all of the response and I’ll try my best to personally reply each of it with my own thoughts. It has been a really insightful and touching for me to read through the replies. I’m sure all of you meant well, however I’d like to say that I’m not saying this because I’m being pessimistic or “giving up” on my “dream”, I’d just like to point out how growing up, as a children and even as a teen it never crossed my mind that I “can” be a classical musician, I know classical musicians exist but it just never occurred to me that it is an option (does it makes sense? Haha) and I think a lot of people experience the same thing, thus making music career less approachable for kids (I mean, I even dreamed to be an astronaut when I was young and other “irregular” career-- but being a musician was never crossed my mind although I love playing piano) As I’ve already said in a reply below, I’m an engineer in my late 20s and I love my job. Although sometimes I can’t help but wonder how life would turn out if I’m a classical musician, as it seems so different as a life as an engineer. Sometimes part of me wishes I was one, when I went to classical concert and such (do you get it? Haha) I didn’t quit playing music altogether. I still do some small gigs and teaching young kids occasionally. Being a professional classical musician is just a day dream of me, something that I always wondered but not something I “have to” achieve. It just something that I keep dear in my heart. I wish everyone luck in your respective path that you’ve choose or wish to take. Best regards.

8:22 as a pianist i very agree with Alex, maybe i would even have put myself more on the disagree-side. In my experience, pianists seem to be able to stand a lot more pressure and concert anxiety than other musicians, who maybe are more used to play in groups or in an orchestra, so that they get more nervous when playing solo. I´m not a professional concert pianist (yet ;) ), and i also don´t really want do be, but over the years, when i was performing, i learned to control that feelings that stood in my way to a good performance. In my opinion, getting nervous just makes it worse and it doesn´t help your concentration at all. Last year, i had the opportunity to play Debussys 'clair de lune' in our every-year school concert in our townhall, and i wasn´t nervous at all. Not only that, i even enjoyed it so much, i completely ignored the audience and just concentrated on the music. It is very important to me to not worry about what mistakes could happen, but to look forward to having a nice and fun concert. Maybe you will think of that when performing yourself ;) just have fun! Greetings from Germany

dhtp music yea it’s like super stressful, because when you play a wrong note in an orchestra, it’s fine, because the other instruments will cover it up, but when you miss a note on piano, everyone notices .

I’m 15 and play the Tenor Saxophone and for as long as I remember I have been in love with classical music , even people at school have made fun of me for it because I love it so much. I have always thought since I play the Tenor Sax i will never be able to play classical music. Yet, the classical saxophonist in the video gave me inspiration however, I still have no idea where to start to becoming a classical musician. Maybe someone could comment under this comment and help me. You would be greatly appreciated!!

Maybe things have changed. But in my day, you were never a tenor saxophonist. You were a saxophonist period. That always also could pay a standard clarinet. Whereas a clarinet player may say they specialise in one saxophone. Whether in an orchestra or a stage band, we all had at least 3 instruments beside us, though usually 4. And like in the Bolero, sometimes you would switch mid piece! Not all orchestra's are huge! Start with knowing your genre of instruments! Though keys are different, notation is the same!

A little late to the party but many music teachers (including myself, although I am not a saxophone player unfortunately) are teaching online or have begun teaching online in the last year. Perhaps that's a way to find a classical saxophone teacher if there isn't one in your area? Good luck and the best general advice I have for you is to listen, listen, listen! (To decent recordings of the kind of music you want to play)

As an art student I can relate to many of these things. Many people think all kind of art should be free, and creating art is only a hobby. Not a real job. I have studied art related studies almost 9 years, and still people are thinking I'm not studying a real profession. My family doesn't support me either. I hope people learn to appreciate different career choises, even though they don't see the importance themselves. Without diversity this world would be a grey and a dull place to live.

My family can't really afford lessons or an instrument, even though I'd love nothing more than to learn the piano or violin. I know I wouldn't get to a professional level anymore since I'm a teen, but I do feel like it would have been enriching in my childhood and it could still be enriching in my future. I'm very sad that my school didn't offer classes to learn instruments or after school activies. I guess it's difficult to realize, but it would be quite nice

Same, I think I would have genuinely enjoyed playing the piano, but because of our financial situation, I don't think I will have the opportunity to truly hone my skills. I am in my teens and my parents do not think playing a musical instrument is some sort of priority anymore. Besides, I think they will just let me focus on academics ( My parents are not fond of supporting the idea that music interests me. I understand the financial burden, but imposing in me the belief that my life should revolve on my studies is a no-no. It's kind of sad.)

I know this is a year later.... but just to encourage you... My mom wanted to learn the piano when she was a kid but her dad died when she was young. So, the family, although not poor, didn't have extra for things like piano lessons. (My grandma, who never remarried, had 6 children to raise. The oldest was in her early teens and the youngest was only 5 at the time). So, when my mom went to uni, she paid for her own lessons on the organ. :) She's not a professional but she can tinker out a tune on the organ and piano. I also know of another gentleman who went to college to take business or something -- totally unrelated to music. He experienced a life-changing event that led him to want to become a musician. He started taking music lessons as a freshman at uni and he graduated with a music degree. He became a music professor at a small college and taught piano and other music subjects. He also taught piano tuning. He is an AMAZING musician.... and he only took lessons during those 4 years in college and then practiced 40 hours a day. :) So... all that to say -- it's never too late to learn.... and you can become a pro. You might not be the youngest pro in the world... but you can do it. :)
