Do Christians have assurance of salvation in Christ? The question of assurance of faith is one of the most important issues in the Bible, and an issue Catholic and Protestant Christians have debated for centuries. Also today many have trouble understanding the basis of our assurance of salvation. This quick video describes that assurance of salvation is based on Christ and the Resurrection not in our own works. Christian works certainly come after, but the assurance of salvation is that Christ has risen.

Your videos are awesome, you do a great job at presenting the information from a unbiased perspective, I've wondered what domination you belong to, if any?

Nice ending music track with a rockish 70s sound to it, but perhaps a bit out of place and a bit too loud. Otherwise, thank you so much for your very informative videos. The Father of lights has certainly given you an ability to communicate complex matters in a user friendly manner. Keep it up, by God's grace.

Would it be fair to say that the Doctrine of Assurance is there to counter "No True Scotsman" claims and prevent infighting? To guide Christians to walk alongside each other on the same path forward, however broad it may be.

Hey, great video, as usual! Quick question: Does Paul, in Romans, 5 through 8, argue that believers are guaranteed Hope’s assurance, because the historical Jesus died and was put into a grave, and then arose? I'm confused...? Maybe I’m missing something, but as we understand it, there’s no historical evidence for Paul ever meeting or talking to the historical Jesus before or after the Crucifixion. How can we be sure that Paul was certain of what Jesus did or said, or NOT do? Couldn’t the early Church just be making this story up, and proposing that Paul wrote it? Like Beowulf in 979, or Chaucer, in 1386, certainly the Church had motivations to invent such a tale. Where’s the proof, and assurance, of truth, historically? @ 2:23 “Christ got up, out of the grave…Trust is in Christ” Here’s a few questions: When was the ‘pregnant’ moment the Church invents the “Doctrine of Assurance,” was it before or after the collateral Doctrine of Sanctification? Or did these ideas slowly evolve over the first few centuries of Christianity, polished by St. Augustine of Hippo, then perfected by Aquinas, and the Catholic Church's (over time) blessing? *Sources:* Paul: Jew, Greek, and Roman [eBook] 2008, edited by Stanley E. Dr. Reeves, I know its only 90 seconds but I thought you were actually going to discuss Assurance of Eternal Salvation, as I'm sure you're aware that it is a highly contested doctrine.
@James-li8cm

I would contend that he did. Any sin gives us eternal condemnation, and to know that Jesus vanquishes sin, that is our assurance, that sin is gone, therefore, the eternal condemnation is gone - thus eternal salvation.

James Todd You said that any sin gives us eternal condemnation, but the Bible clearly states in 1 John 5:16-18 (ESV) 16 "If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God[a] will give him life-to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death." Forgiveness of sin does not address salvation directly. Salvation is an ongoing process. As Paul clearly states by saying "I'm working out my salvation in fear and trembling" Someone who says that they're working out their salvation in fear and trembling doesn't seem to have much of assurance of eternal salvation. Dr. Reeves is just describing in this short video what the Bible states, specifically on one knowing with assurance that their sins will be forgiven.

which sin does not lead to eternal damnation? Can you provide an example? the "working out one's salvation with fear and trembling" Paul is referring to is the battle between the flesh and the spirit (see Romans 7 and 8) even with that sin, the finished works of Jesus are our assurance that sin has been atoned for and that as long as we strive for that, we are no longer under the law of sin and death. Jesus said that those who endure to the end will be saved. endure in what? the faith in the assurance of the finished works of Christ. if you want to knit pick and try to push your personal theology, I don't want to play that game, but if you want to grow... we can keep talking.

James Todd unfortunately the Bible isn't specific on which ones in particular. A lot of it has to do with the situation one finds them-self in. Also whether the sin was done with malicious intent or not.

So if I truly trust and believe that Jesus reseructed and conquered the grave and I trust him with my salvation like I believe that he has the power to save me from death because he reseructed and is God that's assurance?

Please address Matthew 7:15-23. Those folks are calling on Yahshua as "Lord." They are doing "good works" in His name And yet, He never knew them. Why? Because of their "anomia"--"out of law". Evidently, lawlessness relates to the desire of YHVH in the heavens spoken of in verse 21.

Salvation is not based on us (looking inward) but based on our Lord, Jesus Christ. Works based teaching places the focus on us. It is faith in Jesus Christ that brings Salvation & the assurance thereof.

So is this a history channel or a theology channel? Need to understand your biases in the historical videos
@RyanReevesM
@RyanReevesM 7 жыл бұрын
It's historical theology, which will always bring elements of both (or neither). I can wind up doing either, depending on the subject up each week. But bias is not the same as having opinions (private or expressed). I'd like to think I can be as objective as any historian, if not because I choose to be, then because my training has led me to make appropriate conclusions.
