It feels like every day a new amp replacement, modeler, or digital multi-fx pedal comes out for guitar. And every day, a ton of guitar influencers release a wave of videos on how these digital devices sound as good as the analog pedals and amps they are based upon. And I'm guilty of this too! This channel has focused in a large part on the digital revolution of guitar gear. And while I'm a fan of the digital units we have today (how far they've come and how good they sound); particularly the Quad Cortex, I wanted to put the big question to the test: Do digital guitar FX sound as good as analog FX?
Unlike my previous tone comparison videos, I want to do this one completely blind. That's right: I'm going to be showing you clips of pedals like the Jackson Audio Belle Starr, Moonshine, and Bender Fuzz mixed in with tone matched and neural captured versions from the HX One and Quad Cortex. Now, of course each box won't sound exactly the same, but they are certainly close enough that I think even the most fine tuned ear won't be able to guess which clip is the real thing every time.
So come and see for yourself if you can pick out real pedals and a real amp from the HX One and Quad Cortex; and finally reach a verdict on if Digital FX really do sound the same as Analog...

B is the one that sounds more different...It has some greater grit, energy, clearly. Very noticeable.

I think the QC sounds just a bit better nearly identical though. A was still really nice.

Wow, i actually nailed this one! 😅 Only thing i can say is the first you can hear digital clipping artifacts. The third one you can hear none, but also no blending of tones the way the analog pedal does, but it does sound good... Still that pedal rips! Id that the quad core for versitility tho. Although i do personally run analog distortions/fuzz for the same reason, i can hear the diff. 😅

Real pedal was pretty good, QC a touch better.. I like the clarity of them over the HX. I doubt I’d ever use any of them, just never liked fuzz.

All of them sound like a fuzz which is solid state clipping or a digital version of solid state clipping. The real test is comparing tubes to digital modelers.

B is noticeably different from the other two. A and C sound slightly more "stacked up", have slightly more "noise". B sounds clearer, especially on the lower notes. both the digital ones are really good approximations, C sounds better than A though, and closer to the analog, imo
