We explore and test whether it's worth it to connect a dust extractor or vacuum to that dust port on your circular saw. There may be benefits regardless of whether you prefer left- or right-blade cutting. You also may benefit from newer technology like AWS that helps cordless tools activate a dust extractor via Bluetooth wireless technology.

"What a great innovation". My 25 year old porter cable corded circular saw had that and I just assumed all saws have that. I would not dream of buying a saw without a dust collector port. Well technically the Porter Cable did not have an official port, it as was exhaust shoot that a shop vac hose would fit over and it would stay on better with a little duct tape. It made such a difference that from that point on I never bought a single high dust producing tool that I could not hook a shop vac up too. My studio (I am a sculptor) has always been my living room so dust collection is a necessity.

I just bought a Kobalt cordless circular saw yesterday. I was disappointed at how many saws didn’t have dust collector ports. One thing that I’ve noticed with this one is that it puts out a bit more dust than I’d like. But more annoyingly, it also ejects small chunks of wood out the front, at high speed, directed towards the front handle. They sting. Looking at your Makita here, it looks like it does something similar. I understand that I might be too perfectionist, but that’s so annoying.

Hikoki c36 05 has a detachable dust box built on top of this saw guard. Mafell are built to have a dust bag that works really well. These manufacturers need to get with the program and build their saws to work without vacuums. It evidently can be done

As a beginner who only started learning woodwork last year I was shocked you're not using a mask when cutting with a circular saw :O That aside I bought a Titan TTB 874CSW saw last year and it works great (highly recommended for beginners) but it never came with any attachment for sawdust extraction. I tried making my own which looked good using an old vacuum cleaner brush attachment and small bag taped up with duct-tape which looked good but hardly any sawdust went into the BAG. Instead it was blowing it out of the front. For the life of me I cannot find a specific Titan circ saw attachment for mine saw and find it bemusing why Screwfix have not included one. Any suggestions? At an angle the hole is 45mm x 30mm in diameter. Hope some one can help with suggestions. Thx

I have a Makita circular saw and they really make a mess covering you with dust then there’s the hazard to the lungs. I recently added a small supermarket type plastic bag fixed by a Jubilee clip. It’s probably not as efficient or healthy as an attached vacuum, but it’s less cumbersome and less expensive. Just seal and throw away the bag 😁

@Pro Tool Review. Hey Kenny. Like your videos. So when you used that Makita blower to clear off the sawdust that makes me think you have a assistant whose job is to clean up the shop after your mess like cooks on a cooking show. Otherwise you would've vacuumed instead of using the blower. :) I bought the dust shroud for my 6 1/2" Makita circular saw and the one thing that irked me was that Makita doesn't include the machine screw that hold the shroud in place! That meant having to figure out the size and then buying one. Really? How much can including one screw with the dust shroud cost? Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

@@Protoolreviews Hmm. So if we buy the saw they'll include the dust shroud and screw. But when I buy the shroud as an accessory I have to figure out what size screw to buy? Hope that changes in the future. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

OK SO MAYBE IM A LITTLE CRITICAL, BUT WHEN IM RESEARCHING VIDEOS FOR INFO, ID LIKE TO KNOW THE HOST IS PROFICIENT. HAVING THE BLADE WAY TOO LOW FOR THE CUT IS NOT RECOMMENDED. ALSO HOLDING THE HOSE BUT NOT HAVING IT STAY CLEAR OF THE CUT WOOD IS ANOTHER RED FLAG.

I'm a Left Handed Guy, Carpenter and Certified Pre-Fab Home and Home builder, Framer the problem/major issues that I'm getting with using a sidewinder circular saw blade right is that stupid dumbass design of dust ejection port in the side of the saw, I don't mind the saw dust but I do not want a saw dust ejecting and shooting directly all over my face especially when I'm cutting a Pressure Treated Lumbers and we all know that Most lumbers are dangerous/Hazardous because of its materials that are known to cause Serious Cancer, and I cannot use N-95 Mask to solve the problem because you cannot breathe properly under the extreme heat of 90°F plus in the Jobsite. So Modern Sidewinder Circular Saw Blade Right with Saw Dust Ejection port are somewhat a dumb idea. Yeah for right handed people it's not a big deal but for Left Handed Operators it is a big deal. That's why I have never use any sidewinder saw especially blade right saw. I'm only using Worm Drives or Hypoid Gear Drive Saw, they don't have those dumb feature and the saw dust is ejecting downward that's what Circular Saw should be. I ditched my DeWalt DWE575, my Makita 5008mg, Makita HS7610, even my favorite Skilsaw SPT67WML all of them have those stupid dust ejection port. And the saw dust port adapted didn't work out the way I'm expecting it.

As to the original question, "do dust ports work?" The answer- based on your video- is: not very good. Poorly. I'd be recommending people need to wear a high quality dust mask while using a Makita, unless wearing one while being blasted by toxic OSB dust is too woke.
