I am a relatively new subscriber and I thoroughly enjoy watching the love and attention to detail both you and your father put into the Mosquito. It brings back memories of doing carpentry and woodworking with my dad who I got my love of those things from. I cannot wait to see the Mosquito when it's finished.

The horror in Andrew's voice when you said the foot rest will be a bit of 1 inch box section was hilarious! 🤣 Of course it will be a precision built 'waffer thin' dimple died piece of aluminium art, what else would it be 😁

"That rambling thing I do-" Oli, it's only rambling if you have no point, are going off topic, or are completely bonkers. Your talks are on point, are interesting, and are grounded in reality. No, my friend, you don't ramble, though I know your verbalizations might feel that way from inside, because you might not know where you're going with a thought when you start the idea: that's OK, you trust yourself, and you follow your own brain through. And your talks are always helpful and part of the story. I only mention this because you've mentioned some of the challenges you face when making these videos, or when doing anything, so I wanted to let you know you were absolutely doing this part right on. Thank you!

It did occur to me that with such a light car it might be cool to have a central driving position for symmetrical weight distribution, but you covered that thoroughly. 2 seater cars are far more fun.

From a grease monkey I'd highly suggest putting in a new heater matrix (we call them heater core over here in the US) while you have easy access. Those things love to rot out from the inside and nothing worse than finishing a car then find out the heater is dumping antifreeze on the new carpet.

It’s an intricate puzzle of parts that’s all coming together nicely. It was a really simple change but I like how the centre tunnel has been tapered, a small but important difference. I enjoy the the slightly rambling tangents you go on, it conveys your passion.

I have to agree that the Probax seats from a Lotus Elise are ridiculously comfy for something with so little padding in them...... Just such a shame the only place people would come in contact with them was in a bloody Elise. They were a lovely car to drive, just painfully difficult to get in and out of unless you're as flexible as a Russian gymnast..... I, am not ! 😏. Every time I'd take my mates Elise anywhere, there was a whole drawn out procedure I had to do to get in. It was to half removing the soft top, put a square of cardboard on the seat for me to stand on, then sliding my back down the seat back as I walked my legs down under the steering wheel and into the footwell. Getting out consisted of flopping out head first, and crawling out, dragging my legs behind me like some mortally wounded soldier crawling back out of the line of fire........... "No officer, I haven't been drinking....... This is how I ALWAYS have to get out of this car". 🤣 I loved the seats though, and when I decided to upgrade the seats in my old MK1 MX5 to get a bit more leg room, they were the only choice for me.

Please continue voicing your "Engineering Philosophy" and thoughts. And I agree with your artisanal/artisan statements, it's a shame that consumerism culture has devalued such mastery of craftsmanship so much. Then again, much of technology today has surpassed the capabilities of single individuals. That's probably why journeys and projects like your own are so entertaining to follow along with. I wonder if there won't be complications with heat routing the coolant, electrical and fuel all through one tunnel. It doesn't leave much space for insulation. Maybe use the sills to split up some the routing, like coolant in the center tunnel, but fuel and electrical routed through the sills? Also I'm concerned for your knees every time you have a test sit with that straight dash bar. Doesn't look like you could actually raise it, though. Just an idea, what if you changed the straight dash bar to a curved one, where it curves up and forward?
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard Жыл бұрын
There's plenty of room both in the tunnel and for my knees you'll see. There's a trend of devaluing the skills and labour of individuals because instant gratification gives no one the time to do their best work so it brings the skilled work down to the level of mass production and art becomes content [shudder]

Hi both, Oliver you mentioned you would like an original Coupe. My rolling shell went on sale today on GTM kit cars, I think that might suit your father. Also available is a 1300GT engine,1330cc lightened flywheel and all balanced, ported and polished 11 stud head and fast road cam. It may not stay with the Honda but it would be fun trying.

Are you planning on using one of those dreadful floor mount pedal assemblies ? Or a proper top mount box ? And have you considered running the coolant lines through the sills . Or even through the chassis ?
@OliverPickard

Floor mounted as it's better for the seating position. coolant lines run through the centre tunnel as does fuel, brakes and gear cables..etc

Watching you get in and out of the car i can see its quite a challenge, it will be even more so when the door is fitted, have you considerd suicide doors it will make it so much easier and look cool
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard Жыл бұрын
I like the way you think but my daily driver has suicide doors and they are great until someone parks closely to you and considering this is a wider car it would making ingress difficult but scissor doors would work but look a bit silly. the problem at the moment is there's no floor so im basically balanced none leg getting in but I've got a funky idea for door hinges

Another great video. Thanks! Is there any milage in using spaceframe tubes as radiator hoses? Do people do that, or is it too much work? Several run front to back, perhaps cooled water returns down drivers side, and hot up passenger? Kris
@OliverPickard
@OliverPickard Жыл бұрын
I'd advise never running coolant inside a steel tube especially one that's needed for your safety because it would thin over time, you can put a tube in a tube but mixing aluminium and steel is a no no (engine and radiator are aluminium). We will run thermally insulated aluminium tubes down the centre tunnel this minimises hoses and takes the shortest path but if I didn't have a center tunnel and my sills were bigger and not full of holes it would be fine to run them inside the sills.
