Do you think we should have any Latin in law school, or should it all be translated?

Quick question, how do you force quo warranto hearing when the STATE declined and you have more than enough documentary evidence to prove your claim ? Would you do a pod cast on the subject of quo warranto ?

Im taking Latin in highschool and mostly teach myself bc my teacher sucks. 🤧☺️ I didn’t even know last involved latin. I just liked Latin. And then I took it and realized it was so much harder than you think. Im self teaching myself Korean and it’s so much easier😭. Thankfully I’m almost done with Latin.

Really enjoying your videos. Perhaps you, anybody reading this, or you want to make a video on this question, be my guest. I would appreciate any advice or insight. I’m 36 years old and working but feel a huge gap that requires to be filled in my personal education. I live in Northern Alberta and quit high school after grade 11 for big dreams of oil money. About 3 years ago I picked up my first book ever, I was hooked immediately ( Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. A lot of people were surprised that how quickly I devoured the 7 books that average 1000 pages each. I couldn’t put the books down, this basically turned a light switch on in my head. I have been eating up as many books as possible over the last 3 years. I randomly pick out topics I want to learn about. I would say my favourites our USA and Russian history books, anything to do with astrophysics and mathematical books, though I do read a lot of everything else. I probably spend about 2-4 hours a day reading on weekdays and about 14 hours a day reading on weekends. It truly has changed my life and my thinking process. In September, I’m going back to adult high school, which I know I will enjoy and excel at if I put the work in, every day. My question I need help with is, obtaining a law degree is my end result, I was going to take a degree in history after high school in attempt to gain admission to law school. I know I will be 40 at this point, but that’s a me problem. I watched your video were you stated philosophy students do well in law school. I really like how you explained the critical thinking process, I know I need much help in that department. Now I keep switching back and forth on which degree to choose for admission in law school. Would history be a good avenue? Perhaps you wouldn’t mind shining light on the major differences in the two undergraduate degrees. Any tips, advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. On another note, I truly do enjoy how well spoken you are in your videos, it’s inspirational, keep up the great work !

Thank you for sharing your story, and great to hear how you have become an avid reader. Concerning law school admissions, they don't care too much about your major--they are primarily interested in your GPA. Find a major that you think you will enjoy as that will keep you motivated to earn top marks. Whatever major you decide on, take electives where you have to spend time writing essays. These will often be courses in philosophy and history.

What if you know about Latin and Greek from your school, it is still an advantage? TY.

No, not really. There aren't more than a hundred phrases you need to learn, and some of them aren't closely related to the Latin they come from. For example, "nexus" is an important concept you learn about in civil procedure. In Latin, it means "chain." But in the law, it means "connection." So while knowing the Latin provides you with a definition, modern law has a more nuanced meaning for many of the Latin words we use.

Latin is the language spoken by the ancient Roman Republic and Roman Empire, which fell in 395 AD. Spanish comes from Latin, but is different in many ways.

@Learnlawbetter

One does not need to take the LSAT for the LLM degree in the US. All that is required is the first law degree, from whatever country someone comes from.

The Latin motto on Virginia's flag.
@elizabetholiviaclark
@elizabetholiviaclark 3 жыл бұрын
@@Learnlawbetter As a Virginian, I'm perpetually angry with John Wilkes Booth for two reasons. Most importantly, of course, what he did to Lincoln cannot be forgiven. Secondly, as I'm sure you know, he shouted that motto from the stage at Ford's Theatre. Every time I see my own state flag, I'm reminded of that fact.
@Learnlawbetter
@Learnlawbetter 3 жыл бұрын
This Latin Motto is over 2,000 years old. You will find bad people quoting things, which doesn’t make the quote bad. For example, early on, Hitler referenced several Bible passages. Does it make those passages bad? No. Hitler was using something ancient to give his actions legitimacy. This means we need to separate the person using a quote from the quote itself, unless the quote itself is somehow evil.

Nah, not useful(i took AP Latin in high school). One time I explained the definition of "in limine" in Prof Abbe Powell's class and he and some classmates laughed- ignoramuses. Still gets my goat to this day!
